I doubt that he would have written anything negative. But who knows? He might have been writing something for a child to read and be amused by later. He might have written something that would give a passing stranger a pause for thought long after he left that area. He might have written a blessing for the womn they wanted to stone. I can think of a million things he might have written, but it would have been the mind of a poor man to speculate upoon that. No, what he was drawing and writing was not shared with a purpose that might even be to cause us to wonder about the thoughts of Jesus at the time...

I always thought he was just writing, to draw attention away from the evil thoughts in the crowd, and attention to what He was trying to tell them. Ever try to get the attention of an angry mob, when they have their minds set on something? I bet everyone turned and watched Him for a moment, wondering what He was doing and were then able to think about His Words more closely, and taking them to heart.

Jesus was already writing before they approached him. In saying what he did, then returning to what he was already previously doing could perhaps show that the matter is now closed. Because they got no further response from Jesus, one by one they walked away. If Jesus did not show a disinterest, they would have ended up in a larger debate. Jesus knew that his words would cut like a knife and chose not to show any mockery, pride or further rebuke. There was no reason for him to gloat over their demise.
Perhaps it is a example that he was setting for the many christians to follow.
Nothing biblical, just my take on it. I could be far off the mark here.
