We MUST be committed to "the" church but it doesn't mean "our" church. As long as God has called us to a particular place, we must be loyal to that call and by definition, to that place. However, the term "our" church is errant. It is still God's church. Think on this for a moment.....
Personal experience: I wanted to leave my church some time ago. It was the church that I had grown up in and the only one that I was familiar with. I sought God's will in prayer. His answer: If you take one step to the left or to the right, I will bring upon you tenfold of what you have already been through.
Situations in "my" church look quite grim to me at times and yet it might just be my eyesight playing tricks on me. The jealous, arrogant, back-biting minority of the church is the most evident. But really Jon, what is the whole of the church made of?
Do the few touble makers in your workplace determine your future? Will they cause you to consider leaving your job? Do you know that no matter where you go, you will find the same problems with different faces?
The real question here: Where does God want you? Not really your choice anyway, right?

    In HIS Service....in HIS love,

    Hi Jon -
To me, without a doubt, I would put this before the Lord and do nothing further until I hear from Him. This is something I would really seek His advice, and seek, and seek, and seek, until I find, knowing that if I did it any differently, I would land in a situation that Teri describes, getting tenfold of what I had already been through.

Perhaps the miracle I was looking for lies around the next corner and instead of walking to the corner, I cross the road and miss it altogether.

Seek His advice and keep seeking until you know beyond any doubt where He wants you to go.

    God bless

PS - here are two scripures that helped me before. Hope they can help you too.

    1 Chronicles 14:10
so David inquired of God: "Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?" The LORD answered him, "Go, I will hand them over to you."

    1 Chronicles 14:14
so David inquired of God again, and God answered him, "Do not go straight up, but circle around them and attack them in front of the balsam trees.

Yes, of course we should seek the Lord and then follow Him. The part I have trouble with these days is knowing exactly what God is saying to me.

I envy the clarity that someone like David had .. "The Lord said do this, that or the other...."
I know that part of God's plan for guidance is to make sure we stay close to the Holy Spirit so that we are empowered to actually go on and do the things we're instructed. And that God's ways are laid out for us in scripture.

But sometimes I wish God would send me an email and lay the specifics out plain.

(Don't want to sound like I'm complaining - deep down I know God's ways are perfect and right and I know we are called to continue as best we can with the light we do have.)

Jenny, I can't explain exactly how God talks to me, but He does. When I reach a point where I decide that I do nothing until He speaks, He eventually does. One day in utter desperation I quoted those scriptures to the Lord and said, "if you could do it for David, you can do it for me", and I did not budge. I would spend many times and many minutes (not hours) asking for Him to speak to me and asking that He make it clear enough for me to know without a doubt that it is Him. I spend time explaining my situation and desperate need for Him, my desire to do His will only and not my own. All of this is part of my seeking. Sometimes an aswer has been quick, once I even waited about two months, BUT each time I have earnestly seeked, He has answered me.

And the specifics are as plain and simple just as an email and you just know beyond a doubt it is from Him. You know in your soul.

Keep believing and seeking and you may be blown away by just how real He actually is. AWESOME doesn't even come close to describing Him.

    God Bless

Hey.... This is a tough question and I have been there as both a member and as a pastor and the time came for me to leave and I knew in my spirit that the time had ome. Sometimes the Lord stirs our heart to move for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it is for our benefit; sometimes it is for the benefit of those that God is sending us to and sometimes He moves us because of things that are taking place where we are or even more important... because of things that may soon begin to take place.

If it is the Lord speaking to your heart then listen. If it is the devil then recognize it and resist it. The Lord will reveal Himself and His will to you and there is a marked difference between God's nudge and the devil's push!

    Be praying for you brother!
