    Hi Mel:
Your post is interesting. I pray that you will prefer God's will to your own, perhaps your life will not seem so strange then.

Hi, Mel. I went to a lyrics site and read the whole song your lyric came from. Since the song obviously had nothing to do with Jesus, I won't comment on it. :-)

Now, on to the question you asked: Did Mary overstep her authority as Jesus' mother? Possibly, but not intentionally. She saw a wedding that was about to go down in flames because the provisions were running out. She knew her son could solve the problem, so she asked him to.

When he said, "It's not my time yet," she did what any other mom might - she nudged her baby bird toward the edge of the nest. She may have mistaken his reluctance for lack of confidence or some other human emotion, not realizing that he meant it wasn't time for him to go public yet, not that he doubted the outcome.

Whatever her thought process, she still orchestrated things so that he had to act or risk dishonoring her. So, I think he changed the water into wine to honor his mother more than anything else. The fact that he made the water into better quality wine that what the host had already served shows his compassion, in my opinion. I also think that, being Jesus, he couldn't have made that water into anything less than the absolute best wine around. That's just who he is.

Not exactly sure where you are headed to with this train of thought, but it does cause one to ponder. I think with this particular direction you've pointed me in you could also lean toward the validity of Catholics directing prayers to Mary. Jesus may have said It was not His time yet, but in truth He had already been outed and what He was here for was already answered. I think you almost have to look atthe question of how many miracles must people see to grasp the truth and think about what did this show to anyone? Who knew besides the servants and Mary, but it also showed Mary's faith and her trust in God's word.I don't know ...To many directions to take with this one
    God bless

    Marsha,

    Hello. Thanks for smiling. :'{)

    serola,

I'd prefer to have this world remain 'strange' to me. Yes, that my will should be less is an aim I have.

    Traci,

I like your take on it. Yes, the Lyrics have nothing to do with our faith, it was just that snip of it that cued my mind on this subject. I would like to consider that a good thing, that those things not intended as icons of faith can be used by God.

Mary was a mother. From that her authority over Jesus was derived. I like the fact that you point out how she might have looked at it as a mother. The bird and nest was interesting to think about.

    Ross,

Your thoughts ring off something I have recently read that struck me strangely as well. I'll have to comment more later...

    Gotta Go,

    Mel
