    Jon,

You were on the right track. Does this give better context to where I was going with that little passel of passages?

Ok, Think of children and how tolerant you are with them. What was David Talking about in the Psalm? What was the 'Man after God's Heart' talking about? How had he been chastened and what for? How bad was that? What of the two sons? What of pruning? (pruned off or just pruned back?) Why and why?

Justice tempered with Mercy. As with your own children, whom you love.

God's way should be our way,

(You were thinking what we should be, while I was thinking consequences, and how our relationship with God impacts that)

I had a best friend die on the way to work one morning, we pulled off to the side of the road, laid hands on her, she took a deep breath and revived. We rushed her back to the hospital, they called her family in to say good-bye. Immediately they took her to the ICU. After a few hours, they were waiting for her brain swelling to go down, they did surgery. She had a burst brain (anyurysm?). That was on a Good Friday morning. After a week-end prayer vigil, by Easter Sunday morning she was sitting up in bed asking for something to eat! She had no lasting effects and was back to work in two months. On the first anniversary of that miraculous accasion, we had a cake made for the party and on the cake was the verse, I shall live and not die...
