I know that I have taken a position early here, but I have a point to make. Just as obeying authorities here in this world should not cause us to go against God's Will, neither should our desire for a unified church.

Perhaps we are not talking about other doctrines who live in or allow sin. Perhaps it is more along the lines of whether a woman is allowed to cut her hair or wear pants. Is it a sin for a man to have long hair...did Jesus really have long hair? We have a woman pastor, should that divide us? Isn't the basis simply that one must be born-again? Remember the whole "speaking in tongues" issue? Is that a large enough issue to divide the body over? If one professes faith in Jesus Christ and then lives as if there is no God, has their behavior aligned with the rest of sinful man, that is a reason to stay away from him. I feel confident that this young girl is not implying that we should hold a door wide open to false doctrine and heresies. I'm sure that she is only referring to the simple "man-made" rules that some churches have imposed. Please, correct me if I'm wrong on this.

Teri, I suppose you are right, but do not take that for granted.

If we are going to work this into a false doctrine thing I have to add that should be challenged. Thats why I try to point out what the JWS and Mormons teach because both claim to be christian but their teachings take away the diety of Christ. but if we are just talking about the minor doctrines I see no reason why we all need to be 100% but I still think as far as salvation is concerned the church should stand united no matter what the denomination

I think there is one passage at least that we have not considered, Mel. Im Acts 15, Paul and Barnabas have an argument and go their seperate ways. God purpose in the book of Acts seems to be the spread of Christianity to the ends of the earth as they knew it. Paul and Barnabas's argument lead them to go to spread the Gospel in different places therefore spreading the Gospel to more people in more places. Isn't it interesting that God used a division among the church to accomplish his purpose? Obivously, God wants the church to be united, but when divisions do occur, God can still use them for His purposes.

Great point, C'Anne. Thanks for the added insight. Thanks Mel, for keeping us on our toes.
