Isn't it funny... not only can we move mountains, we can also create them... both in Jesus' name?
Recently, we had a couple with married children leave our church. They had been there most of their lives. When they left, their children left. The reason: There was a divorced person on the board and divorce is a sin. This was the main reason given though I have my thoughts on much deeper issues which I haven't the time to go into. Though there are those in our church who would like to cause division over this, our church, our people have stood strong. I was asked to pray that they come back and I refused, I did say that I would pray God's will and that answer was not sufficient. Now, the woman who asked me to pray that, will not speak to me, won't even look at me. I guess God does not forgive divorce? We've had people drop out because people wore jeans to church. This is pure crazy...this is the hand of the devil. I think that some people are just looking for a way out and someone else to blame. Bye, then.
Now, here's a question: Do you think that when you judge or condemn someone for something such as divorce, there is a strong likelyhood that that very same judgement will be visited upon you? Can you see one of their children ending up in a divorce? Did they bring this upon themselves? Are we not instructed to be careful how we judge?

I love that song! In fact I think I remember doing the first CD moment on that song. Disagreements are inevitable in the big picture. Christians need to disagree with one another without turing it into a war. We are to speak the truth in love. My Romans and Galatians prof said this well. We are to be as loving and understanding at finding sinners inside the church as we are at finding sinners outside the church. This does not mean we do not keep one another accountable, but it should not shock us that Christians make mistakes too.

Terri, I grieve with you about that. My year has been very much like yours, down to not even being looked at by some. We have our own who would judge, and for now they are in leadership. I found that my best prayer for these people is "God, please do something about them." That way I'm not telling Him how to proceed or giving up on them. I have found that I should fight for the truth, but with grace and patience. I'd be glad to talk less publiclly about that, by email,
    if you'd like. (jons@golfrush.com)

As to the divorce question, I could easily see a divorce coming. Someone raised in such ungrace could br very hard to live with. But God's grace is huge.
