I enjoyed reading your poem and dont we have great memories of when we were young and getting up on Christmas day to see what Santa had brought! What excitement! We never had a Christmas tree but on Christmas eve we wrote our names on bits of cardboard and placed them on chairs etc so Santa would know where to leave everyones toys at. There were nine of us kids you see! Then it was of to bed early and hardly any sleep the rest of the night. Looking back...we always got good toys and I only realise now how hard it must have been for my parents to buy for nine of us. I can remember quite a lot of the things we got each year. Then it was my time to do Santa when my boys were young and now that excitement is all gone too. One Christmas eve I recorded a Ho ho ho and some other things on to a tape and set it to go off after we were all in bed. Next thing from down below came the sound of Santa as he went about his work. I only had Steven at the time and he was mesmerised and so excited to hearing Santa! Another Christmas eve the boys were in next door with my parents and I went by the window tinkling a little bell. I also had pulled on a pair of Marlenes red trouses and wellingtons and so I clumped into my parents hall and stuck a red trousered leg through the living room door and said something about nobody being in bed and I was going to go on somewhere else. Marlene said the boys faces were a picture and it was not long before the pair were in home and in their beds! So many memories Sharon but if it was not for Jesus there would be no Christmas. God bless you my friend. Hang up your stocking..well you never know!!

Thank you so much for sharing those memories! I loved reading about them! There were 7 of us siblings and our family was as poor as a church mouse! The poem is true: at Christmas time we got things we rarely if ever got throughout the year: oranges, apples, ribbon candy and a new outfit... but my Mom always decorated the house with pine boughs she got from the woods and we always had a real tree with homemade decorations of popcorn and strings of cranberry "beads" and probably things we kids made... and I always always always cried my heart out whenever I heard SILENT NIGHT (and still cry... love that song)... Always loved Dad's guitar, piano playing, and singing. He had a wonderful voice! Now look what you've made me do, start weeping again! But it's good and the memories are precious! Again, Colin, thanks so much for sharing your good memories! By the way, I can't hang up a stocking; we don't have a chimney. Ashley asked the other day how the presents got under the tree and I did a fancy two-step around that question, I'll tell you! :-)
    God bless you, dear friend.

Colin, I forgot to mention that I laughed right out loud at the sight of you in Marlene's red trousers and wellingtons!

Hi Sharon. Your post brings back some very special memories of my childhood. But the best gift I ever got was the gift of salvation from our saviour Jesus Christ.

Hi Sharon, I enjoyed your lovely poem, as with the other saints, it also brought back many memories for me. My mom and dad each came from a family of twelve- most all of them had hoards of kids themselves, there were five of us, and I am suspicious dear sister, that we were poorer than the church mouse. I agree that Jesus is the best and the greatest gift I ever got.

I love Silent Night too Sharon....probably my favourite Carol. We were a poor family too growing up but sometimes Christmas was like some of the scenes you get on Christmas cards. The deep piled snow outside and berried holly to decorate the house with and a real live robin who came into the house for warmth! Take care my friend. God bless

Dear Bro Larry, Lois, and serola, I guess we all agree that we have some good memories about days of yore (whether we were poor or not!). I agree with you all that the greatest gift we ever received is the Gift of God's Only Begotten Son JESUS! Praise His Holy Name!

Colin, a robin came into your home! How long did he/she stay? We had a hummingbird fly into our living room one time...I caught the poor frightened tiny thing and carefully carried him out and laid him on the porch railing. He flew off in a flash! My he was beautiful!

You all take care with God's abundant blessings and riches in glory through Christ Jesus.

I dont really know how long the robin stayed in...Mum probaly persuaded it to leave again but they did get pretty tame in the winter. I am looking for the robin down my garden to come hopping soon. He danced around my feet in the spring of the year when I was busy weeding and things. God bless.
