Good Morning, I greet you after having my quiet time. What I find interesting is that you say it is a "THEORY". Throughout the ages, man has proposed, God has disposed, what will it be next week, next year? The latest fad. Are you tutors believers? Do they have a different agenda from you?
Of course these theories must be looked at & must be discussed, I read the other day that, Darwins "Origin of the Species" is NOT now being accepted as "FACT".
Remember when coming to a conclusion on these topics that the oral tradition was present long before the written word. When I was in Bible College the in thing was the "Priestly" paper & paste theory, that Deuteronomy is a rehash of the earlier books & they were all edited at a later date, "J & P & D" I think it was.
I had to pass exams, & quote all the theorists, but my personal quiet time with the living God through Christ's work on the cross, kept me on target & on line.
I wish you every sucess in your studies, but remember what your Grannie told you is more likely to be true!!! She has your wellbeing at heart.
Hope this helps, you to understand.
    Love in His Name Stuart

Actually, the evidence for these theories are pretty impressive. I'm inclined to believe them, and it doen't really bother me so much now that I've had time to think about it. People didn't write unless they had a really important reason. They didn't just keep histories. So it seems more likely that God used the political purposes of a few kings to accomplish his own will. These theories just add another layer to the Bible.

C'Anne I have to disagree with you a theory that distracts from what we know from the Bible does not work in any way to corraborate the Bible which of course is true anything in dirrect opposition to it is incorrect. the theory of evolution is taught primarily as fact even though there is no scientific fact to support it and creation is disbelieved when that is far more supportable with science. keep in mind one thing if you buy into a fact that Moses didn't write deuteronomy then you have to assume further other theories that discredit the Bible and pretty soon your calling it a compelling book but you really don't think it applies to today. If deuteronomy was not written by Moses of the Bible than I would have to say someone else named Moses wrote it.Teachers teach many things which amount to little more than their opinion and if you approach the Bible from a liberal perspective anything can be made to sound reasonable. Just because something is stated repeatedly does not make it fact
    Be blessed
