Soul and spirit have a shadowy presence in the Bible and I am not really sure that they are that well defined. In some respects I think they are intertwined and may be synomomus with each other. In my mind, my soul is what is eternal... it is that part of me that makes me unique in God's creation... it is my life both now and forever. My spirit is what makes my soul unique from other created souls... like my personality... who I am in the sum of the decisions that I make.
The Bible tells us that God made Adam and he was lying there perfectly formed and then God breathed into Adams nostrils and man became a living soul. He could have given him life as the other animals but He did something more than that... He put a soul in man that would life forever.
My spirit is what the Holy Spirit seeks to control and influence as I make decisions that determine what direction my soul will go in when I leave this earth. The whole purpose of my spirit is to get my soul to heaven.
