If I am understanding what Tozer is saying and I do realize that this single passage is probably not a John 3:16 snapshot of his whole book... but his assertion that religous activity apart from inner change is right... and while there probably is a lot of religious activity that is falsely placed... it is still not a bad thing... because even religious activity can lead one to the Lord! The thing that we sometimes forget at least in my mind is even though the church is far from perfect because it is made up of people who are less than perfect... the Holy Spirit is teh One who touches mens hearts and changes their lives.
I would rather have people coming to church for the wrong reasons as opposed to staying home for the right reasons. A hospital is not a plaec for people who are well but a place for people who are sick... if I am coming to church for the wrong reasons that I may well be in the right place to fix that wrong reason...
Just my thought.
