Hi Mel. Nice thoughts of yours, again. I wish every child was raised the way it looks you raise yours.

*You make me* (this is an American/English expression. Where have you got it from? :-) It is as if we were women ...) - eh ... - you let me reflect a little bit about the fact we are/were professional soldiers. We gave our oath to the people (to the King/President in light of the constitution, happily enough), which means we as Christian will be bothered in a special way about the morale standards of the King/President (and the people by him). We gave our oath to The Son of Man culturally given. So the standards of The Son of Man is important to us. This is really our mission as officers, maybe more visible in a country with general conscript: To teach soldiers Christian morale - to explain and strengthen their love for their country by affording them faith in Christ, The Son of Man. The question, though, is if we are approaching an epoch in which The Son of Man is not thought of as given by the nation (the culture) anymore but as given by churches. National churches are diminishing in strength and popularity. Nations are by laws in conflict with their Christian constitutions. And nations loose their independence in unions (as in EU). Maybe we are the last heroes, the last officers of grace.

    Anders,

Thanks for the kind words. Trust me, I could do better with my children. Only the Grace of God could cover some of my mistakes, pure and simple.

And I am only an NCO, although I was in training for a commission. I understand the duty from both perspectives and 'turned five ways sideways' (another more obscure saying) and still continue to look at it with all the attention I can muster. I must uphold every oath as much as I can. For God first, and then for country. And for me, country is the Constitution and the Liberties it embodies, which is the only way I could swear alligenence to it now. The shadow that is, is not what should be...

    In Truth,

    Mel

I was inspired to write a short article on the subject. In Norwegian. I plan to send it to the Norwegian "Military Journal" and it will be my resume after the scholarship I had fifteen years ago and which lead me to insanity. I hope I get it published. Thank you for bringing it up.
