True story: When I was a little girl, I went to my mother and asked, "what is love"? To this day, I never forgot her response, "It is the giving of yourself for someone else".It is much easier to drop a dollar in the offering plate than to give your time, yourself, to another. And it is most difficult to give love without expectation of anything.
Al was in the background, he was unselfish, he wasn't trying for recognition, he was just there doing what he does...exhibiting love through the sacrifice of himself for others.
Ya know Jon, explaining love may be one of the most difficult things to explain because it seems to rival our innate desire to BE loved. We can show love to others but when we are left wanting, our first instinct is to withdraw that love. Love that is lost because it did not fulfill our expectations is really no love at all. However, when you think about it, people do not let us down, our expectations of them do. Love without expectation, is that possible? Love given without need of reciprocation, can that be?
To know that God loved me even while I was hating Him... beyond what I am able to deeply comprehend. Perhaps beyond what I am able to give... but I try!
