God is sovereign in ALL things, how can he lie? or even do questionable things?Is it because YOU do not understand?
Saul did not wait the required time, seven days, see also Joshuah 22 where they raised up an alter to the Lord on unconsecrated ground. Here in Samuel Saul did the same thing At the same place!!!.
So he disobeyed the Lord & he somehow had lost his faith in God to deliver that what he had promised. That is to save the Israelites from the Phillistines. So he lost his Kingship.
David on the other hand rejoiced on comsecrated ground, therefore all is well!
Interestingly the daughter os Saul, Michal, who was angry with David, presumably for the same reasom as you!!!! Tried to bring David down, by her words, she was infertile from that moment. This part of the passage MAY, only MAY allude to some sort of punishment, otherwise why mention it at all?
That very quickly is what comes off the top of my head. I will do further research into this as I see your comments later.

Let me clarify, I would not condemn David for sacrificing and certainly not for dancing. That was not my concern at all. I should have time soon to expound on this post.
