    C'Anne,

I think the underlying mystery is who Aaron's line included.

    Read: 1 Chronicles 6

Eli was only part of the line, and not mentioned here.

If God promised you a child with green eyes, and it was so, but they were deaf, would the promise be nullified?

    Compare: 1 Samuel 2:11, 3:15-18 & Romans 11:11-24

Think hard on this: Is God limited by our understanding of his promises?

    Read: Genesis 15:4-5 & Galatians 4

Just thoughts. Not something I can preach. But I think it bears examination...

From personal experience, let me share. When my wife was pregnant with our first child, we (she most especially) prayed for certain things. I think God granted every request. But we did not cover everything.

My eldest daughter has ADHD, and is a very willful child. We really thought we were horrible parents at first. However, our second child is a lot more normal and compliant. (guess what we prayed for, LOL!!!)

Truth is, despite the challenges, both of my daughters have very loving hearts. I have said it before, and I mean it completely: Give me a child with a loving heart, and I can deal with the rest!

Now the trick is to not lose their little hearts and be as close to what I think God would wish me to be for them, and that does include punishing them when they need it -- for their own good!

    AMEN,

    Mel

Nothing that I see says that the Aaronic priesthood was cut off. It says only that Eli's family was cut off. There were other sons and other descendants of Aaron. Yes?

If you look at Luke 1:5 you will see that Elizabeth was identified as "one of the daughters of Aaron. Elizabeth was Mary's cousin meaning she too would be of the daughters of Aaron... so Jesus is of the lineage of the Aaronic Priesthood of which all prophetic promises are fulfilled... Jesus is the promised fulfillment of God's promise not Eli or his sons.

May God bless your study to seek to know Him in all of His glory!
