How clearly and adequately God has defined the medium of our relationship to Him in the Holy Scriptures, that is by faith. It's not a complicated thing, or an obscure thing, just a simple believing and abiding trust. In does, however engender and require an obedience, as Abraham "obeyed God" in setting out for the land of promise. Are we willing, truly willing to believe and to obey fully in all that He asks of us for His glory? May we see and lay hold on the grace available to us that we might walk by faith, and not by sight! Amen sister!

Question... if someone came up to you who had never been to church and knew very littl about the Bible and asked you... what is faith... how would you answer that question.

    Complete this sentence "Faith is...."

"Faith is trust" Built on a personal belief that he who promises delivers. Abraham believed because he had experienced the fulfilment of God's promises. His father, Terah, made the first move from Ur to Canaan, but came to Haran. Abraham completed the journey started by his father. The relationship Abraham had with God was strenthened over the years rising & falling, until he submitted by giving his son Isaac as a sacrifice. Abraham believed that God would not take his son away from him & he was proved corrwect. That is Faith, built on trust through experience.God was working towards that point then, he is working towards that point in each one of us today.
Having said that I do not think that is our starting point. I believe that our starting point is "God is Love" This in turn leads on to the rest.
How do you see it Bob?

Great job Stuart! My working definition of faith is.. believing that God is everything that He says He is and He will do everything He says He will do. See Hebrews 11:6... hte second part of that verse.

    You wrote..."

I think this might better be stated... God's starting point is love but our starting point has to be with faith.... for without faith it is impossible to please God. Faith is really our resonse to God's love for us as He expresses Himself to us... may be a picky point but to me a very important one placing priorities in the right place!

    AMEN and AMEN!!!

Yes Bob probably accepting God's love is a step of Faith! Is Love not the word we all use, we love God because he first loved us?
Lovely to be with you on this glorious Lord's day
