Hi Des - such an interesting topic. Ultimately I do believe that the way you worship is between you and Christ. I do look at David as an example of someone who freely expressed His love for the Lord. We do praise and worship to modern songs, and I have often felt a great connection when I simply close my eyes and focus on the Lord whom I am singing to. I do not worry about those around me and if it means to keep quite to be able top hear from the Lord, so be it. I think that God loves those that worship HIM from deep within irrespective of your style of worship. You need to do what works for you. If you are just singing the words without the feeling, what's the point?
I have had moments where He has ministered to me through song where I have ended up in tears, I have had moments where He has spoken to me in worship, I have had moments where I felt right in the throne room with Him and alas I too have had moments where I felt nothing at all.
A guest speaker once told us, stop thinking about yourself during praise and worship. That time is for you to focus on your God Almighty giving Him the praise He deserves. That was a great revelation for me as my praise and worship changed dramatically from that point.
God Bless
