Hi Meghan,
I admire your willingness to want to do what 'is right'BUT don't worry about that - as you learn it will all become clearer. If you are not sure which Christian church is for you - try various ones out. Go to their weekend worship service and see which one makes you feel like you are home! I go to an Alliance church but I will also go with friends to a Lutheran, Presbyterian or whatever church.
As long as they believe in the Trinity and that Jesus was both man and God and that He came to earth and was born, died, buried and rose again for my sins.
You ask which Bible version to read and my personal opinion is to read one you understand! For my daily reading, I read the NLT (New Living Translation) but I usually use the NIV (New International Version) to study with. For more information on Christianity, I remember going on the www.billygraham.org site and it being a tremendous help when I was a beginner and looking for answers.
