Just thought I'd point out that you can be pleasing to God by simply taking care of your pet. (or could displease him by failing to do so)
It amused me to think of this. Not a whole lot of depth to this thought, but if you want to take it deeper, I am certain one could...

In the last words in Jonah, God is relieved that Ninevah repented because he would have been forced to destroy them if the hadn't - including much cattle. We remind ourselves that God loves us because we are His creation. Animals are also His. (no, not on the same level. He didn't send Scruffy the Savior)
