Jon I have several KJV Bibles That was all I knew when I was younger and I never spent much time looking at it because as I have stated it is harder for many to follow and a Bible does no good if it is not read. I had an expeirience like you talked about with a pastor and we attended for a little while. I listened to Him talk bad about groups like promise keepers and stated repeatedly to stay away from nonbelievers which didn't make a whole lot of sense because He was an advocate ofdoor to door evangelism. I learned things that I still carry with me today. I just dropped the I'm the only one thats right attitude. And in truth evangelism should draw people to Christ not teaching of dissention and seperation and us.
All Bibles are open to translation error, no exceptions. The key point is there are things in the Bible that are there to guide the believer and there are things in the Bible that are essential to the the doctrine of salvation. The hows and whys of salvation are what needs to be shared with others. To correct and rebuke those already under the grace of God with scripture that is non essential to salvation only drives a wedge between God and believers to do so under the auspice of love is even more devisive. to claim to be so much more. We can speak of that love till we are blue in the face if our actions don't demonstrate it as well than is it really there
In Christ of Christ and for Christ, be blessed

I think its significant that gospel means "good news". We need to try to present it that way. Beggars telling each other where to find bread. Not sugar coated, of course, but not with a shotgun either.
    Nuff said.

When I first went to Bible College, I must have been like you & the KJV. It was only meeting with other "denominations" that God opened my eyes to the truth, that 'he loves everyone'. That he has no favourites, loves each one of us with the same zeal. Jesus spoke of the yeast of the pharisees, I think you came to realise that, love the sinner, hate the sin.
Now my greatest friends are to be found in all parts of the Church, all loving the Saviour, all trying to fulfill God's global plan. That is to share his love, in & out of season. I too remember the verses of my youth from the KJV, but its better to know the Author& his works.
All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ & gave us the ministry of reconciliation. That God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. 2 Cor. 5:18f.
Keep up the good work we all need each other in Christ to work together for Christ. May we all walk in the light

But we don't just have to love the sinners. We also have to love the people who hate the sinners. It is very easy to look at people being hateful and make the exact same mistake they are making. We can't hate the hateful either. We have to love everyone regardless of their attitudes. Did you ever wonder what makes those people so hateful towards certain groups? Did you ever wonder if some experience they had created that kind of hate? Did you ever consider how they came to believe that hating sinners was okay? Doesn't that say something about our churches, our Christian schools, about us?

    C'Anne,
Hating any people regardless of who & what they are is part of "Fallen Man". Thats why we all need to be reconciled to God through the work of Christ on the cross.
Paul reminds us that "All have sinned & fall short of the mark" Its part of that process that makes US hate some people. God is in the forgiveness business & its when we realise that, we can come to love everyone as he loves. The Lord's prayer forgive us our trespasses as we forgive our trespassers, or Forgive us our debts, as we forgive us our debtors. Love is an act of will, we must want to love to be able to love in Jesus name.
You know its sometimes hard to love our neighbour, do you find that too? God is working out his plan in each of us, the theologons call it, 'Sanctification'
    Love in His Name, Stuart
