There is much to be learned in even the history revealed in the Epistles...

2:10 --The one request the apostles made of Paul was that he would remember(help) the poor. Paul willingly complied, saying that he was forward(zealous)to do so.

    Paul rebukes Peter at Antioch...
2:12 -Them which were of the cirumcision: This refers to Jewish Christians from Jerusalem who were troubled about the Jewish Christians in Antioch, who were taking meals with Gentiles, thus probably eating forbidden food. The question in Jerusalem was this: were Gentile Christians obligated to observe the law, of which circumcision is the sign? The answer was no (v1-10).Peter's action in Antioch of withdrwing from Gentile meals raise another issue: were Jewish Chrisitans also free from the law? v2-13 -Dissemble could be said,"acted hyprocritcally." The detrimental effet of Peter's action was influence other Jewish Christians to seperate themself from their Gentile brethren. Even the spiritual giant Barnabas, who had championed Gentile freedom in verses v1-9, was carried away with their behavior; they really believed it was all right to eat with the Gentiles, but acted as though these convictions were not theirs.

Mel, God bless you and yours...

All these things happened & this was one of the reasons that a council was called in Jerusalem where the leaders of the new found Church, James included, were able to sort out these differences. Talk is good! See Acts 15
The Church went on from strength to strength, note that the problems were not hushed up or swept under the carpet.
We are often guilty of not facing up to our responsibilities in Christ in our age.
    Hope this helps

Oh yes, Stuart, it is. As Bro Larry points out, "there is nothing new under the sun" which is true even here. Looking at Lamentations, Daniel and Revelations again with this new frame of mind could still be useful, I would think...
