Stand in faith... it is all you can do anyway... good or bad, right? Your stand before the rest of your family regardless the outcome may well be the means for God to do something in their lives...

I will be standing with you in prayer for his safe return and for wisdom for you and the power do follow that wisdom.

Mel, I'll also be standing in prayer with you for your brother's safe return and for God's guidance in your handling of the situation.

As for the rest of your post, I think it safe to say God has a sense of humor; after all, He made us! One of my favorite instances of this is the wordplay Jesus made when Peter confessed that Jesus is the Messiah. He called Peter a word translated "Petros" in the Greek, which means a large piece of a rock, and then used the word translated "Petra" (a huge rock) to infer that Peter's confession is a bigger rock than Peter himself, and it is upon this Petra that Jesus would build his church. It's a subtle wordplay, but I can imagine a smile tugging at Jesus' lips when he said it.

Unfortunately, we miss that pun all too often in our modern translations of the Bible. The Amplified Bible is the only one where I've seen the distinction made. Here's the verse from there (Matthew 16:18):

"And I tell you, you are Peter [Greek, Petros--a large piece of rock], and on this rock [Greek, petra--a huge rock like Gibraltar] I will build My church, and the gates of Hades (the powers of the infernal region) shall not overpower it [or be strong to its detriment or hold out against it]."

As a side note, I was watching a PBS travel show on Italy the other day, and the host was visiting Vatican City during his trip. He mentioned this verse as the basis for Peter's status as first Pope of the Catholic Church, and the camera panned to a place in the Vatican where Matt. 16:18 was engraved in a wall in Latin. I noticed that even in Latin, two different words for "Peter" and "rock" were used.

Anyway, that's my two cents' worth on the subject. Have a blessed day, y'all!

Ah, Yes. And I have even seen that one in the Amplified Bible! Funny that it should not come to mind for me. I'll do as I am able, which is not very much, and I greatly appreciate your prayers.

    In His Living Hope,

    Mel
