1HOWEVER, BRETHREN, I could not talk to you as to spiritual [men], but as to nonspiritual [men of the flesh, in whom the carnal nature predominates], as to mere infants [in the new life] in Christ [unable to talk yet!]
2I fed you with milk, not solid food, for you were not yet strong enough [to be ready for it]; but even yet you are not strong enough [to be ready for it],
3For you are still [unspiritual, having the nature] of the flesh [under the control of ordinary impulses]. For as long as [there are] envying and jealousy and wrangling and factions among you, are you not unspiritual and of the flesh, behaving yourselves after a human standard and like mere (unchanged) men?

    1 Corinthians 3:1-3 (Amplified Bible)

Amazing as it may seem, even the Church at Corinth was loved by God. Paul had harsh instructions, but they were given out of love. When telling them to cast out one of their own brothers, it was for his good, not theirs, that he commanded this. And later, when he or another brother had repented (second letter) they were told to accept him back into their midst, and again for his good. You can argue that the first, from strictly a worldy dim view, was for the churches good as well, to keep the disease of his sin from spreading. But the second, that is Grace. Truely accepting him back at the possible cost of additonal pain. Do yousuppose he would never sin like this again? Some declare that must be the case! I say he was likely to have at least some further problems, even if not exactly the same ones. Even Paul bemoans his own failings at times, but like the righteous man in Porverbs that falls seven times, he arises seven times also. Paul calls himself chief amoung sinners for his past wrongdoings writing to Timothy. Does that make him unfit to be ann Apostle for Christ?

We judge. Condemning. We should take and follow God's example: Discipline with Love and be full of Grace!

    AMEN!

    Hi Mel!

I appreciate your comments. It is true, accepting someone back into the fold takes grace. Whether it is a biological family member, or a member of our congregation, it is an act of grace when we accept them back into our "circle." We need to be longsuffering in charity towards our brothers and sisters in Christ first, and then to everyone else.

    Amen!
