GOD'S WORD IS TRUTH (Rev. Joseph E. Mahabir)
The Glorious Appearing is a book on prophecy that points out unscriptural teaching of many authors and Bible teachers on the Second Coming of Jesus, the resurrection, the Rapture, the Tribulation (Daniel's prophecy, chapter 9), the Day of Judgment, the Day of the Lord, Israel and the Church, "the chosen people", the Sabbath, Ezekiel's temple, the lights of Isaiah (chapter 30), the Millennium, the end of this present heaven and earth and the commencement of eternity.

(#28) Dr. J. Dwight Pentecost, onetime President of Dallas Theological Seminary and well known dispensational teacher, writes: Since no unsaved person is to enter the millennium, Israel anticipated a conversion that would prepare them for this promised kingdom. The second advent will witness this conversion of the nation, that is, all true Israel, so the covenants given to them may find fulfillment during the age of the Messiah’s reign. Things to Come, (Zondervan Publishing House, Grand Rapids, MI; 1964), p. 507.  (PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR #29).

      DISCUSSION

Dr. Pentecost teaches that Israel was promised a millennial kingdom which will come into being after the second advent.

Will Israel go into a millennial kingdom after the second advent?

Let us carefully examine the text of Matthew 25: 31-46 the judgment of the nations.

When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. Then the King will say to those on his right, Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world (Matt.25:31-34). ... Then he will say to those on his left, Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels (Matt.25:41). ... Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life (Matt. 25:

    46).

                                     SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

At his second coming, when Jesus judges all nations, he will be judging both Jews and Gentiles. Some people will go into eternal life and some into eternal punishment (Matt. 25: 46).

The Scriptures do not teach that Israel will go into a millennial kingdom after the second advent.

The teaching of Dr. Pentecost is not supported by Scripture.

(#26) Dr. J. Dwight Pentecost, onetime President of Dallas Theological Seminary and well known dispensational teacher, writes: In Matthew 25: 31-46 all Gentiles are brought before the judge to determine who will enter the millennium. Things to Come, (Zondervan Publishing House, Grand Rapids, MI; 1964), p. 349. (PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR #27).

                                            DISCUSSION

Dr. Pentecost teaches that when Jesus judges all nations at his second coming, only Gentiles will be gathered to determine who will go into the millennium (Matt. 25: 31-46).

    Is his teaching scriptural?

Let us carefully examine the text of Matthew 25: 31-46.

    46).

There seems to be two errors in this teaching.

    1)   Dr. Pentecost teaches that only Gentiles will be gathered when Jesus judges all nations (Matt. 25: 31-46). The Bible informs us that all nations will be gathered (Matt. 25: 32). It is the day of judgment and God has set a day to judge the world (Acts ; 2 Tim. 4: 1; Matt. -43, 49-50).  All nations include both Jews and Gentiles.

    2)   He teaches that the purpose of the judgment will be to determine who will enter the millennium. The Bible clearly teaches that the judgment will determine who will enter into the Kingdom of God (Matt. 25: 35) and who will be sent into the eternal fire (Matt. 25: 41). Eternal life and eternal punishment (Matt. 25: 46) mean not a millennium but eternity.

                                     SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

At his second coming, when Jesus judges all nations, he will be judging both Jews and Gentiles. Some people will go into eternal life and some into eternal punishment.

The Scriptures do not teach a millennium after the day of judgment.

The teaching of Dr. Pentecost is not supported by Scripture.

      DISCUSSION

Dr. Pentecost teaches national salvation for Israel.

    Is his teaching scriptural?

What do we learn from Scripture?

Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: ‘Though the number of the Israelites be like the sand by the sea, only the remnant will be saved, For the Lord will carry out his sentence on the earth with speed and finality’  (Rom. 9 27-28).

Zechariah penned the following: Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered, and I will turn my hand against the little ones. ‘In the whole land,’ declares the Lord, ‘two-thirds will be struck down and perish; yet one-third will be left in it. This third I will bring into the fire; I will refine them like silver and test them like gold. They will call on my name and I will answer them; I will say, ‘They are my people,’ and they will say, ‘The Lord is our God’  (Zech. 13: 7-9).

                                     SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

The Scriptures do not teach national salvation for Israel. We learn that a remnant will be saved. A Jewish person must be born again to become a citizen of heaven (John 3: 3, 5-6).

The teaching of Dr. Pentecost is not supported by Scripture.

(#24) Dr. J. Things to Come, (Zondervan Publishing House, Grand Rapids, MI; 1964), p. 231. (PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR #25).

      DISCUSSION

Dr. Pentecost teaches that the Day of the Lord is an extended period of time commencing with the tribulation period and ending with the millennium.

Is the Day of the Lord an extended period of time?

What do we learn from Scripture about the Day of the Lord?

By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. … But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. … But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness (2 Pet. 3: 7, 10, 13).

                                     SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

The Day of the Lord is a moment in time and will occur on the day of judgment at the second advent when God will create a new heaven and a new earth. (See Matt. 25: 31-46; Rev. 21: 1-8).

(#23) Dr. J. Dwight Pentecost, onetime President of Dallas Theological Seminary and well known dispensational teacher, writes in connection with the seventieth week of DANIEL’S PROPHECY: There can be no question that this period will see the wrath of God poured out upon the whole earth. Revelation 3: 10; Isaiah 34: 2; 24: 1, 4-5, 16-17, 18-21, and many other passages make this very clear. And yet, while the whole earth is in view, this period is particularly in relation to Israel. Jeremiah 30: 7, which calls this period ‘the time of Jacob’s trouble,’ makes this certain. The events of the seventieth week are events of the ‘Day of the Lord’ or ‘Day of Jehovah.’ Things to Come, (Zondervan Publishing House, Grand Rapids, MI; 1964), p. 195. (PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR #24).

                                            DISCUSSION

Dr. Pentecost teaches that the 70 th. Week of Daniel’s prophecy is future (Dan. ).  He sees the wrath of God being poured out upon the whole earth at that time but particularly on Israel.

A number of scholars and Bible teachers agree with Dr. Pentecost that 69 of the 70 weeks have been fulfilled and the 70th. Week is future.

The Scripture informs us that the Anointed One was cut off after seven sevens and sixty-two sevens (Dan. -26), that is, after four hundred and eighty three years. If 69 weeks of the prophecy were fulfilled before the cutting off of the Anointed One (the crucifixion of Jesus) and the last week, the seventieth week (seven years) is still future, then the crucifixion of Jesus did not take place in the timeframe of the prophecy and was therefore not relevant to its fulfillment.

But the Scriptures clearly state that the crucifixion of Jesus was essential to the fulfillment of the prophecy. We read, Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy (Dan. 9: 24).

There is nothing else in this world that could put an end to sin, atone for wickedness and bring in everlasting righteousness except the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

                                     SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

We conclude from Scripture that the crucifixion of Jesus (the cutting off of the Anointed One) did not take place between the past 69 weeks (483 years) and the future one week (7 years)  as claimed by Dr. Pentecost and dispensational teachers but that it took place during the last week of the prophecy, the seventieth week.

Is Daniel’s seventieth week future or past?

The Scripture informs us that the crucifixion of Jesus took place within the timeframe of the prophecy, that is, after 483 years.

(#22) Dr. J. Dwight Pentecost, onetime President of Dallas Theological Seminary, writes: The church and Israel are two distinct groups with whom God has a divine plan. The church is a mystery, unrevealed in the Old Testament. This present mystery age intervenes within the program of God for Israel because of Israel’s rejection of the Messiah at His first advent. This mystery program must be completed before God can resume His program with Israel and bring it to completion.  Things to Come, (Zondervan Publishing House, Grand Rapids, MI; 1964), p. 193. (PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR #23).

      DISCUSSION

Dr. Pentecost teaches that this present mystery age of the church must be completed before God resumes his program with Israel.

    Is his teaching scriptural?

The church is not a mystery. She was revealed in the Old Testament (Gen. 12: 3; 1 Cor. 10: 3-4; Gal. ; Gal. ). But Christ was a mystery.

The apostle Paul reveals to us the mystery of Christ. In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, which was not made known to men in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets. This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus (Eph. 3: 4 - 6).

                                    SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

At the end of the age, Jesus will judge all nations. The righteous will go into eternal life and the unrighteous into eternal punishment (Matt. -43, 49-50; 25: 31-46). Jews and Gentiles will be judged at the same time.

God will not resume his program with Israel at that time since God’s plan for Israel is in the church of Jesus Christ (Eph. -22; 3: 6). When the judgment occurs, God will terminate time and usher in eternity (Matt. 25: 46).

The teaching of Dr. Pentecost is not supported by Scripture.

(PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR #22).

      DISCUSSION

Dr. Pentecost teaches that the church is a mystery unrevealed in the Old Testament.

    Is his teaching scriptural?

Was the church not revealed in the Old Testament?

God said to Abraham, I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you (Gen. 12: 3).

How are all peoples on earth blessed through Abraham?

All peoples on earth are blessed through Abraham through Christ since Christ is the seed of Abraham and the head of the church.

The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. The Scripture does not say ‘and to seeds,’ meaning many people, but ‘and to your seed,’ meaning one person, who is Christ (Gal. ).

If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise (Gal. ).

In reference to the Israelites during the exodus we read, They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them, and that rock was Christ (1 Cor. 10: 3-4).

                                          SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

The church is not a mystery. The church was revealed in the Old Testament (Gen. 12: 3; 1 Cor. 10: 3-4).

The teaching of Dr. Pentecost is not supported by Scripture.

(#20) Dr. 193. (PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR #21).

      DISCUSSION

Dr. Pentecost states that the church and Israel are two distinct groups with whom God has divine plans.

    Is his teaching scriptural?

Does God have different plans for the church and Israel?

Please allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you through the following Scriptures.

Is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too, since there is only one God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith (Rom. –30).

For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace, and in this one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility (Eph. 2: 14 –16).

Through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus (Eph. 3: 6).

                                    SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

On the day of judgment, when Jesus judges all nations, he will not be judging Jews and Gentiles, but he will be separating the righteous from the unrighteous. The righteous will go into eternal life and the unrighteous into eternal punishment (Matt. 25: 31-46).

God does not have different plans for the church and Israel.

The teaching of Dr. Pentecost is not supported by Scripture.

(#19) Dr. J. Dwight Pentecost, onetime President of Dallas Theological Seminary, writes: The doctrine of imminency is taught in Scripture in such passages as John 14: 2-3; 1 Corinthians 1: 7; Philippians 3: 20-21; 1 Thessalonians 1: 9-10; 4: 16-17; 5: 5-9 Titus 2: 13; James 5: 8-9; Revelation 3: 10; 22: 17-22. Things to Come, (Zondervan Publishing House, Grand Rapids, MI; 1964), p. 168. (PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR #20).

      DISCUSSION

Dr. Pentecost states that the doctrine of imminency is taught in Scriptures.

    Is his teaching scriptural?

Let us look at four of the passages that he uses to support his theory.

Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed (1 Corinthians 1: 7).

But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body  (Phil. 3: 20-21).

For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever  (1 Thessalonians -17).

Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come upon the whole world to test those who live on the earth  (Rev. 3: 10).

                                            SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

The preceding Scriptures do not teach imminency, that is, likely to happen at any moment. No time element is given in these Scriptures.

Eagerly awaiting an event does not mean that it can happen at any time. We can eagerly await a birthday or an anniversary celebration but it does not mean that the celebration could happen at any time. We have to wait for the appointed time.

The Scriptures do not give us the hope of an imminent return of Christ. An unmistakable sign before the return of Christ is the revelation of the man of lawlessness, the Antichrist (2 Thess. 2: 1-3).

When Jesus returns, God will restore all things (Acts ). This must be at the end of the age (2 Pet. 3: 3 – 13).

The teaching of Dr. Pentecost is not supported by Scripture.

(#18) Dr. J. Therefore we pass by the subject of ‘the signs of the times’ in reference to the closing days for the church. Things to Come, (Zondervan Publishing House, Grand Rapids, MI; 1964), p. 155. (PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR #19).

      DISCUSSION

Dr. Pentecost teaches that the church is given the hope of an imminent return of Christ and therefore

there are no signs as to when this event will take place.

    Is his teaching scriptural?

The apostle Paul writing to the Thessalonians informed them of an unmistakable sign that will take place before the return of Christ.

Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers, not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by some prophecy, report or letter supposed to have come from us, saying that the day of the Lord has already come. Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness (the Antichrist) is revealed, the man doomed to destruction (2 Thess. 2: 1-3).

                                          SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

The Scripture does not give us the hope of an imminent return of Christ. An unmistakable sign before the return of Christ is the revelation of the man of lawlessness, the Antichrist.

The teaching of Dr. Pentecost is not supported by Scripture.

(#17) Dr. J. (PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR #18).

                                   DISCUSSION

Dr. Pentecost teaches that people will be born during the millennium with a sin nature so salvation will be required.

    Is his teaching scriptural?

There will be no believers after the last trumpet in natural bodies to go into a millennium and have children since both dead and living believers will put on immortality at the last trumpet. Therefore there will be no births after the last trumpet and there will be no one with a sin nature requiring salvation.

Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed  (1 Cor. -52).

                                              SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

All believers, dead and living, will put on immortality at the last trumpet (1 Cor. -54). Since there will be no people in natural bodies after the last trumpet, therefore there will be no births and there will be no need for salvation.

All people who go into the kingdom of God will be saints.

The teaching of Dr. Pentecost is not supported by Scripture.

                                                 DISCUSSION

Dr. Pentecost teaches that the earth’s population will soar during the millennium.

    Is his teaching scriptural?

The Scripture informs us that when Jesus judges all nations at his coming there will be no people in natural bodies who will be able to have children and cause the population to soar since eternity will commence.

Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. … ‘Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life’ (Matt. 25: 41; 46).

                               SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

Since there will be no people in natural bodies to have children after the judgment at the second coming, therefore the earth’s population will not soar.

Since eternity will commence after the judgment, therefore there will be no millennium.

After the judgment, the righteous will live with God in the new Jerusalem on the new earth (Rev. 21: 1-4). All the righteous will have spiritual bodies and therefore there will be no procreation (1 Cor. -54).

The teaching of Dr. Pentecost is not supported by Scripture.

      DISCUSSION

Dr. Pentecost teaches that living saints who go into the millennium in their natural bodies will have children during the thousand years.

    Is his teaching scriptural?

The gospel of Matthew informs us that when Jesus judges all nations at his coming there will be no people after the judgment in natural bodies, since some people will go into eternal punishment and others into eternal life.

The Scripture shows that after the judgment there will be no saints in natural bodies, since at the judgment some people will go into eternal life and others into eternal punishment.

Those who go into eternal life will put on immortality (1 Cor. -54). Those who go into eternal punishment will be in the fiery furnace (Matt. ).

The teaching of Dr. Pentecost is not scriptural.

(#14) Dr. J. The good will be received into the millennial kingdom and the evil excluded. Things to Come, (Zondervan Publishing House, Grand Rapids, MI; 1964), p. 146. (PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR #15).

      DISCUSSION

Dr. Pentecost, using the Parable of the Weeds, teaches that there will be a judgment at the end of the age. The good will be received into the millennial kingdom and the evil excluded.

He also teaches that the people in the millennial kingdom will have natural (physical) bodies with the capability of having children.

    Is his teaching scriptural?

What did Jesus teach when he explained “The Parable of the Weeds” to his disciples?

The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear (Matt. -43).

Jesus did not teach that the righteous will go into a millennial kingdom and the unrighteous excluded. Jesus taught that the righteous will go into the kingdom of their Father and the unrighteous will be thrown into the fiery furnace.

Please read Matthew 25: 31-46 to discover what will happen to the righteous and the unrighteous when Jesus judges all nations at his second coming.

The righteous will not go into a millennial kingdom as taught by Dr. Pentecost. The righteous will go into the kingdom of God, an eternal kingdom (Matt. ; Matt. 25: 34). The unrighteous will not only be excluded from the kingdom as taught by Dr. Pentecost but they will be thrown into the fiery furnace (Matt. ; Matt. 25: 41).

The Scriptures show that after the resurrection and the judgment there will be no believers in natural (physical) bodies capable of having children (John 6: 39-40; 1 Cor. 15: 52-54; Luke 20: 34-36).

The teaching of Dr. Pentecost is not supported by Scripture.
