    THE NAMES OF GOD

    Yahweh
    I am who I am

    This is the name God gave Mose by the burning bush. It has the tense of being on-going, as in "I will always be myself". We cannot make Him what we want Him to be, or brgain Him to change. Our definitions don't matter. He is who he is.

    Elohim
    God –plural

    This is the God of creation. He is telling us that He is the one true God. I love that the word is plural. Literally "I am the one true Gods." It is about the Trinity yes, but more than that, He lets us know from the start that we won't truly understand Him. He is too big.

    El Elyon
    Most high God

    Most societys had many Gods, one for each important areas in their lives. Weather, crops, health, war, etc. But God is THE God. Big enough to pray to about world wars, or for finding our lost keys.

    El Shaddai
    Sufficient

    God is all we need. Kind of a hard fact. We all know that we could survive on less. But God doesn't demand a spartan life. He wants us to live an abundant life. One of joy. But joy in Him, not in what we have.

    Yahweh Jireh
    The Lord will provide

    This is found where Abraham is ready to sacrifice Isaac. "God will provide himself a sacrifice", and the ram becomes caught in some bushes. And, of course, God did provide Himself as a sacrifice, as Jesus.

    Yahweh Shalom
    Peace

    Imagine not wanting peace. We might not want to compromise, or yield, but no one would long for strife or conflict. God's peace is perfect peace, because it is the fufillment of our creation.

    Yahweh Sebaot
    Lord of hosts

    God is the head of all the armies of Heaven. And each angel is an army by himself. And yet when He actually leads the army in Revelation there is no battle. He wins with the word of His mouth.

    Adonai
    Lord

    This means Master. Not one for Sundays only. Or for some areas only. Complete, perfect, loving master.

    Yeshua
    Savior

    This name is Joshua, or Jesus. If the idea of loving, or worshiping a spirit in Heaven, remember that Jesus showed us what God is like in a form we could better relate to.

    Christ
    Annointed one

    Christ is not Jesus' last name. Mr and Mrs, Christ did not have a son named Jesus. Christ means messiah. The annointed one that we were waiting for to bring peace. To save us. If you can honestly say "my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" then you are saved; because you have said volumnes.

    We worship what we can’t understand

    Ps 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;

    Hab 2:20 But the LORD is in his holy temple;
    let all the earth be silent before him."

    John 4:24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must
    worship in spirit and in truth.

    2Chron 5: 13 The trumpeters and singers joined in unison, as with one voice, to give praise and thanks to the LORD. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, they raised their voices in praise to the LORD and sang:
    "He is good;
    his love endures forever."
    Then the temple of the LORD was filled with a cloud,

    John 9: 38 Then the man said, "Lord, I believe," and he worshiped him.

    Ps. 63:1-4

    O God, you are my God,
    earnestly I seek you;
    my soul thirsts for you,
    my body longs for you,
    in a dry and weary land
    where there is no water.

    I have seen you in the sanctuary
    and beheld your power and your glory.

    Because your love is better than life,
    my lips will glorify you.

    I will praise you as long as I live,
    and in your name I will lift up my hands.

    2Sam 21:24 No, I insist on paying you for it.
    I will not sacrifice to the LORD my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.

    jer6:20
    Your burnt offerings are not acceptable;
    your sacrifices do not please me."

    Ps 50:15 Call upon me in the day of trouble;
    I will deliver you, and you will honor me."

    Ps 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
    the skies proclaim the work of his hands

    • (People have worshipped the stars for centuries. God is bigger)

    Ps 100:4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
    and his courts with praise;
    give thanks to him and praise his name.

    Phil 2: 9-11Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
    and gave him the name that is above every name,
    that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
    in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
    and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
    to the glory of God the Father.

    Mt 8:2 A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, "Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean."

    Rev 5:12 In a loud voice they sang:
    "Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain,
    to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength
    and honor and glory and praise!"

    13Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing:
    "To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
    be praise and honor and glory and power,
    for ever and ever!"
