Focus
So often we want to focus on the blessings and not the Blessor! And when the blessings don't come instantly; we give up on God or even think He's given up on us! Like spoiled children, we want what we want when we want it and expect God to make it happen. Growth comes when we realize that God's way is the best way! Then we can learn to turn it ALL over to Him and let Him work through us! But that takes faith! Real faith! Keeping your focus on God.....
Then God said, "Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about." Genesis 22:2
Wow! Sacrifice your only son..... Can you imagine what that must be like? Can you imagine walking for THREE days with your son (v.4), then when you get there- you pick up the wood and give it to your son to carry and you bring the fire and the knife (v.6)? All in preparation to sacrifice him? Was he nuts? Would any of us today do that? Would our faith be so strong that we'd simply follow God NO MATTER WHAT?
But Abraham kept his focus on God. He didn't argue or whine! The blessings didn't come instantly! But they came...
The angel of the LORD called to Abraham from heaven a second time and said, "I swear by myself, declares the LORD, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me." (vs.15-18)

Better
Do this and live, the law demands, But gives me neither feet nor hands.
A better Word the Gospel brings, It bids me fly and gives me wings.

Start With Yourself
The following words were written on the tomb of an Anglican bishop in the crypts of Westminister Abbey:
When I was young and free and my imagination had no limits, I dreamed of changing the world. As I grew older and wiser, I discovered the world would not change, so I shortened my sights somewhat and decided to change only my country.
But it too seemed immovable.
As I grew into my twilight years, in one last desperate attempt, I settled for changing only family, those closest to me, but alas, they would have none of it.
And now as I lay on my deathbed, I suddenly realize If I had only changed myself first, then by example I would have changed my family.
From their inspiration and encouragement, I would then have been able to better my country and, who knows, I may have even changed the world.

Victory
"Truly I've been through the storm and rain. I know every thing about heartache and pain. But God carried me through it all! Without His protection I'd surely fall. I've been broke without a dime to my name. But all my bills got paid because I called on Jesus' name. You can't tell me that God isnt real! 'Cause I've got the victory and that why I'm still here."

Amen
Keep us, O God, from pettiness; let us be large in thought, in word, in deed. Let us be done with faultfinding and leave off self-seeking. May we put away all pretenses and meet each other, face to face, without self-pity and without prejudice. May we never be hasty in judgment and always generous. Let us take time for all things; make us to grow calm, serene, gentle. Teach us to put in action our better impulses- straightforward and unafraid. Grant that we may realize it is the little things of life that create difficulties; that in the big things of life we are as one. Oh, Lord, let us not forget to be kind. Amen.

No Enrollment Required
All of these can be done at home! And homeschoolers have long known this *secret*...
"Access to Books is Essential to Reading Development
*Studies show that having access to a wide variety of reading materials is essential if a child is to develop into a strong reader. In fact, the only behavioral measure that correlates significantly with reading scores is the number of books in the home.
*Children who are read to frequently are nearly twice as likely as other children to show three or more skills associated with emerging literacy.
*The more types of reading materials there are in the home, the higher students are in reading proficiency.
*Students who do more reading at home are better readers and have higher math scores."

I disagree with those who believe that the main reason we should enroll our kids in public school is for them to be the "salt and light". I won't go into that now!
But I do want to say that the misconceptions about homeschoolers are tremendous. And the one that *usually* amuses me most is the one that assumes we stay at home all day and never venture out in the real world. Ever. The last time I was asked about it, I told them that I only had the kids with me as a rare treat. I said that I usually keep them locked in the trunk to avoid them being seen or having any contact with people...
Yes, I was laughing the whole time. So were my kids.
The truth is that my children come into contact with more people, and all ages of people, than they ever did in traditional school!

Is Eating Out the Best Choice?
In my opinion, those who are committed to their child's education and truly care about their child would do well in homeschooling. Those who "dump" their children at school and are not involved in the educational process would not do well with homeschooling. So I don't think everyone should homeschool.
But for others "in-between"- those who don't 'dump' their kids and who are involved and who do care- then homeschooling should, at least, be a consideration.
And I don't think that choosing NOT to homeschool is a sin. I just don't want it to be thrown out by caring parents without prayer and research!
For instance: I can tell you that meals cooked at home are better for your children than eating out every day. That's my opinion.
I can add that the environment of eating together as a family makes for stronger family relationships.
I can show you that the food at McDonald's (or wherever) isn't as healthful.
You can then point out that not everyone will cook healthful meals or that you know a particular place that is big on serving nutritious meals.
But I will say that for those who think nutrition for their children is important and are willing to make the effort to research it, then eating home-cooked meals together as a family could be a great choice! The same can be said for homeschooling!
