    Called By Grace

But when God, who set me apart from birth and called me by his grace, was pleased - Galatians 1:15 (NIV)

Before we were even born, God called each of us by His marvelous grace.  Imagine that! God already called us to be teachers, preachers, mothers, fathers, business people, cooks, etc. before we were born.  He spoke our destinies over us while we were being formed in the womb of our mothers.  Most of us don't know what our purpose is, but we can ask the Holy Spirit to teach us what God called us to do, and because He is so wonderful, He will.

    The Sacrificial Lamb

And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood. And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son. And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I. And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me. And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son. - Genesis 22-9-13 (KJV).

Remember the story of Abraham, who put his son, Isaac, on the altar in order to obey God?

For the covenant between God and man to work, God had to know if man would be willing to sacrifice his son for God.  His intention was to sacrifice His Son for us.

God gave His Son just as Abraham was willing to give his.  God gave His to save us from our sin.  We are the creations God was supposed to slaughter for our sins, but just as He did with Abraham, He provided a way of escape--a sacrificial animal.

In our case, it was Jesus who was slaughtered for our sins--past, present and future.  In Abraham's case, it was a ram slaughtered instead of his promised son, Isaac.

In the end, Abraham kept his son, and in exchange for Jesus, God received all of us as His sons and daughters.  How awesome is that?

    Even When You Mess Up

But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.  And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? - Matthew 14:30-31 (KJV).

Remember the story of Peter walking on the water?  Think about it for a moment.  When Peter took his eyes off Jesus and began to sink, he cried out to Jesus.  Even though Peter messed up, Jesus still rescued him.  This is a picture of our Heavenly Father.  Even when we have messed up, if we call upon our Father, He will come to our rescue.  That’s how much compassion and grace He has toward those He loves--us.

    What Is Defiling You?

Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man. -  Matthew 15:11 (KJV).

We are so concerned about what is going into our bodies.  Whether it be drugs, alcohol or food.  We do need to monitor those things.

However what comes out of our mouths is what defiles us.  I heard a preacher say if we can control our words, we can gain control of our thinking.  In turn, we would control our actions.

We need to be more conscious of the words we are speaking because when we speak bad, we reap bad things in our lives.

It is time for us to make subtle changes in our words.  It is time to change small things, such as “I can’t” to “I can,” “I can’t afford it” to “I have everything I need” and “I can’t handle it” to “I can handle everything with God on my side.”

Then we will see how small changes can and will influence our lives.

    Sit Still

Then she said, “Sit still, my daughter, until you know how the matter will turn out; for the man will not rest until he has concluded the matter this day.” - Ruth 3:18 (NKJV).

Sit still until you know how the matter will turn out.

How many times, instead of sitting still when things are up in the air, do we pace the floor?  Scrub the floors?  Go for a run to release nervous energy?  How many times do we sit still until we know how the matter turns out?

If you are like me, you are trying to figure out what you can do to achieve the desired results.  Maybe if you just pray a little longer or quote this Scripture, it will turn out right.

We rarely ever just sit and rest in God's promises by daring to believe that God will do what He said He would in His Word.  Remember He said that He would be with us in trouble and deliver us.

We need to be still and know that He is God.

    Stand By Your Friends

Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. - Romans 12:15 (NIV).

How many times do we actually rejoice with those who are rejoicing?  How many times do we mourn with those who mourn? We are there for the first hour, the first day, maybe even the first week.  If they rejoice too long, if they mourn too long, then we cannot stay  because we have our lives to attend to. We are too busy tending to our kids, our spouses, our work, our home, to emotionally stand by our friends or those in need.  How long does it take to write them a short note? Give them a call? Invite them to dinner? Baby-sit their kids? If we were in their position, what would we want people to do for us?

    Right Words And Boldness

And pray for me, too. Ask God to give me the right words so I can boldly explain God’s mysterious plan that the Good News is for Jews and Gentiles alike.  - Ephesians 6:19 (NLT).

I am not as eloquent or as bold as I probably should be, but I can do what this Scripture says.  I can ask God to give me the right words, so I can boldly explain God's mysterious plan.  When I let God work through me to do what I cannot, together He and I accomplish more than I would have on my own.  God and me.  We are a team.  And that's the way it should be.

    What Does God Call You?

(As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. - Romans 4:17 (KJV).

God called Gideon a mighty man of valor when he was fearful.  He called Peter a rock when he was unstable.  He calls us beautiful, precious, victorious, righteous and more than conquerors even though most of us still look dirty, unworthy, defeated and failures in the natural.

God calls things as though they are in the spiritual not the natural.  In that realm, we are righteous, victorious and more than conquerors.

When we, like Gideon and Peter, start to believe God's report over what we see in the natural, we are on our way to becoming who God created us to be.

    His Report, His Results

Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. - Acts 2:18 (NIV).

God pours out His Spirit on us today.  We are prophets of our own future.  Jesus said in Mark 11:23 that we can have what we say.  If we say we are poor, if we say we are sick, we are choosing to believe the report that we feel in our five senses.  Instead we need to believe God's report that says God is our Healer, God is our Provider.  We must speak His Word over our lives if we want His results.  Then when we reap the fruit of our words, we will reap good instead of bad.

    The Treasure Within Us

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. - 2 Corinthians 4:7 (KJV).

The treasure that is in us is Christ Jesus.  My pastor tells the story about how he had a bad temper that he just couldn't master on his own.  One day, frustrated from losing his temper, he cried out to God.  Every time he was tempted to lose his temper, he would say, "Lord Jesus, I thank You that You are my patience."

Soon his wife noticed he didn't fly off the handle all the time any more.   Even though, he didn't see the change in himself, his wife did.

I am a recovering worrier, so in recent days, I have applied this story to my life.  When I feel myself about to fret over something, I say, "Lord, I thank You that You are my peace."

So far I have been more peaceful.  Without wasting my time worrying, I've found myself able to rest in God's promises and trust God to come through.

I truly believe that change comes when we depend upon the treasure within us--Jesus Christ.

    Speak And Believe

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. - 2 Corinthians 9:8 (NIV).

I quote this Scripture every morning over my life.  It is one thing to quote the Scriptures and quite another to believe them.

Only now am I finally putting my faith in this Scripture.  Finally I believe that God gives us grace to do all that we need to do, when we need to do it and that He will give us every thing that we need to do those tasks.

Like me, we must believe that His promise is true.  When we believe the Word and speak it over our lives, then it will manifest.

    Let God Handle It

He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again. - Proverbs 19:17.

My great-grandmother was a godly woman.  She used to listen to God speak to her every morning.

One day she only had a few dollars left.  She decided to give the money to God.  Only a man came across her path, who said he needed money.

She handed the guy her cash and told him, "I was going to give this money to God.  If you waste it, God will deal with you."

The man took the money and went to buy alcohol with it.  His hand shook as he tried to give the money to the cashier.  It didn't stop until he brought the money back to my great-grandmother.

When we let God handle our difficulties and those things we are concerned about, He will always pay us back for the good we try to do for others.

"'Return to your house and describe what great things God has done for you.' So he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him." - Luke 8:39 (NASB).

When something good happens to us that only God could have done like pay a bill or bring a friend back into our lives or healed our ailment, how many times do we share what God has done for us?  According to Revelation 12:11, we overcome by the blood of the Lamb (Jesus) and the word of our testimony.  So go ahead, tell everyone you know about what God has done for you.

    He Is Here

Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I... - Isaiah 58:9 (NIV).

When you call, the Lord will answer.  When you cry for help, He will say, "Here I am."  God is like our earthly parents.  When we called, when we cried out in need, as children, if our parents loved us, they ran to our side.  They were there for us when we scraped our knees or when we fell off our bikes.  That's the way God is, when we call out for help, He is right there.  He is ready to help us in our time of need.

Reach out and put your hand in His today because He is the only One who truly understands what you are going through and how to help.  Isn't He awesome?

    You Are Blameless

He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 1:8 (NIV).

The Lord keeps us strong unto the end.  He keeps us blameless.  Without blame.  How can that be?  After all, we have sinned, right?  Messed up?  Made mistakes?  Yes, but when we accept Christ, God no longer sees all that.  He only sees Jesus’ shed blood that cleanses us continually, without end.

    You Are Righteous

For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. -  I Thessalonians 5:9 (NIV).

God did not appoint us to suffer wrath.  No, He appointed us to receive salvation through Christ.  He loved us so much that He couldn't stay mad at us, so He made a way for us to be righteous in His sight.  That is through receiving Christ Jesus.  Only then does God see us as righteous.  Now we are entitled to the benefits of those who are righteous.  The righteous prosper.  The righteous are heard by God.  The righteous shall not be moved.  These are just some of the rewards of the righteous.  The most important is that we will never be separated from God again.

What Is The Effect Of Righteousness?

The fruit of righteousness will be peace; the effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever.  - Isaiah 32:17(NIV).

What is the fruit of righteousness?  Peace.  What is the effect of righteousness?  A quietness and confidence forever.

I don't know about you, but many times when I am going through a crisis, I am not quiet about it.  No, I am very vocal to God about my situation.

After I calm down, many times I will receive that quiet confidence in God that is mine because I am righteous through Christ Jesus.  When we focus on our right standing with God,  then God's quiet, confident peace will overtake our lives.

    Rescue Me

And he did rescue us from mortal danger, and he will rescue us again. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us. -  2 Corinthians 1:10 (NLT).

God rescued Paul from mortal danger.  Paul says that when we place our confidence in God, He continues to rescue us.  God knows when we are in trouble, and He is willing and able to come to our rescue--day or night.  The only thing He requires is that we place our trust, our confidence, in Him.  If He did it for Paul, He has to do it for us because He is no respecter of persons.

    God Is Not Mad

For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. - 2 Corinthians 5:19 (NLT).

Jesus reconciled the world to Himself when He die for our sins, when His blood put us in right-standing with God.  Now when we are in Christ, He no longer counts our sins against us.  And it is our job to spread the word that God is not mad at us.  No, He is waiting for us to come to Him and accept His offer of reconciliation.

    The Letter That Kills

He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. - 2 Corinthians 3:6 (NIV).

The letter of the law kills.  Did you know that 3000 people died after the law was given?  All that were involved in worshipping the golden calf (Exodus 32:28).  However, when the Holy Spirit came in the Upper Room, 3000 were saved (Acts 2:41).  In other words, the letter of the law kills, but it is the Spirit of God that gives us life--eternal life (John 3:16) and helps us enjoy life here on Earth (John 10:10).

    God In Us

But now Jesus, our High Priest, has been given a ministry that is far superior to the old priesthood, for he is the one who mediates for us a far better covenant with God, based on better promises. - Hebrews 8:6 (NLT).

Jesus is our High Priest.  The old priests used to perform the rituals and offerings of the Old Covenant.  Jesus died once and for all for all our sins--past, present and future.  Because of this, we have a far better covenant with God.  We have something better than Moses and the children of Israel in the wilderness.  We have God in us through the Person of the Holy Spirit.  We are His dwelling place.  And we have access to Him 24/7, even in the midst of our troubles.

    Whose Armour?

Therefore take up the whole armour of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. - Ephesians 6:13.

We are to take up whose armour? Our armour? No, God’s armour. When we put on God’s armour and the devil looks at us, what do you think he sees? Do you think he sees us scared, playing dress up? No, he sees God. He cannot see who is in the armour any more than we could see a small child in a suit of armour. When we put on God’s armour, we are covered by God Himself. And that’s all the protection we need.

    Enriched In Every Way

For in him you have been enriched in every way—in all your speaking and in all your knowledge - 1 Corinthians 1:5 (NIV).

In Him, I have indeed enriched since spending time with God, especially in my speech and knowledge.  I have not arrived, but I better than I used to be.  A mere two years ago, I would have never been able to speak to people or to understand as much as I do about God’s Word.  It is the Holy Spirit who guides and leads me every day toward being the person God created me to be.  To God be all the glory!

    Awake To Righteousness

Awake to righteousness, and do not sin. - I Corinthians 15:34.

When we awake to our righteousness in Christ, when we realize that we are not righteous of ourselves but through Jesus' blood, we won't want to sin.  If we really understand that Jesus took the judgment for our sins, we will not willingly want to sin. Yes, we will still slip up.  The more we focus on our right standing with God through Jesus, though, the more the desire to sin will melt away.

    He Is Our Every Thing

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: - Ephesians 1:3 (KJV).

Jesus is our Healer.  He is our success.  He is our prosperity.  He is our wealth.  But those gifts cannot be separated from the Giver.  We must magnify the Giver above everything that we need.  We should turn our focus back on Jesus and not on what we require.  We have every thing in Christ.  He is our every thing.  It is when we focus on Him that everything we need manifests in our lives.

    In Remembrance Of Him

And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. -  I Corinthians 11:24 (KJV).

It is essential that we put ourselves in remembrance of what Jesus did for us on the cross and how He was raised from the dead.  We need to constantly remind ourselves that we would be nothing without Him.  He took our sins--past, present and future.  He took the judgment for our sins for us.  He took the sinful parts of us on the cross.  Is it too much for us to put ourselves in remembrance of what He did on a regular basis?

    He Is Waiting

Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. -  Isaiah 55:7.

When we have slipped up, or let time slide between our visits with God, if we turn to Him, He will welcome us with open arms.  He is waiting for us, watching for us like the prodigal son's father.  He is just waiting for us to come home and spend a little time with our Heavenly Dad.

    Talk About Faults

Confess to one another therefore your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offenses, your sins) and pray [also] for one another, that you may be healed and restored [to a spiritual tone of mind and heart]. The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working]. - James 5:16 (AMP).

I like to tell people what I have done wrong in the past.  I like to tell them what has happened to me.  I do this because I want to help others who might be where I was or prevent them from going down that road at all.

This Scripture tells us to confess our faults, our slips, our false steps, our offenses, our sins, to one another.  Why I believe that is profound is because when we sin, we keep it hidden.  We don't want to talk about it, discuss it or want anyone to know about it.

But when we confess it to someone else, that sin loses its power over us because it is out in the open, exposed to the light.

What we keep in secret will remain a bondage.  What we bring to the light will be healed.
