What can we learn about God

Lancelot Andrews(1555-1626) Bishop of Ely, Winchester, and Chichester, then chaplain to Queen Elizabeth, and later, served as an apologist for King James I in debates. Also he was one of the scholars appointed from Cambridge, to prepare the King James Bible.

He compiled a bunch of written prayers in a personal journal. In one of the prayer he prayed "Glory be to you [God] for the visible light: the sun's radiance, the flave of fire; day and night, evening and morning. For the light invisible and intellectual: that which may be know of God; that whichis written in the law, oraxles of prophets, melody of psalms, instruction if proverbs, experience of histories-a light that never sets."

This got me to wonder what could be known from the part of the Bible we seldom read. the boring part of the Old Testement "The Law. It is just a bunch of silly rules that do not mean a lot to us.

Over the next few days I would like to study the parts of the Bible mentioned "law prophets, psalms proverbs, histories. what is the over all idea of each section. Maybe I can gleen a few nuggets of Gold.

    God is faithful

Do day I would have to say God is faithful. I must say that in the last four or five days God has made me to be happier than I have been in the last three or four years. overe the last year there is a new song in my heart. I have truly returned to my first love(Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior). I have been attending school in preparation for the ministry. It has been a few years of head knowledge only. My heart was, well I do not know where it was I guess in love with myself. seeking everything it could get. Psalms 108 1-4 My heart is steadfast, O God my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make melody. Awake, my soul! Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awake the dawn. I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples, and I will sing praises to you among the nations. For your steadfast love is higher that the heavens, and your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. One of my wifes favorite hymns is "He was there all the time" (his steadfast love). I thank him for he is longsuffering. all I can say is God is faithful because of that I love him and want ot give him every day and every thing. Can anyone argue that because of what God has done for us why should we not give him our selves all we have and all we are. I am tried of being half a Christian. All I want is to give my all to Jesus. My new Ebenezer is Jesus first, others second, me third.

    Yes Yes Amen

The last comment added to my blog was given by my wonderful insightful wife. As she was writing the comment I was reading in the book "A Plain Account of Christian Perfection" By John Wesley. He was stating our intention to serve God at all times and our affection directed to God at all times is the "wings of our soul" whithout which we can never climb the mountain of God. If that sounds familiar re-read this I wonder if the real goal is to be "intentional" about living out your life with God. By that, I mean your intentions and desires direct what you do and think. They are preemptive to our thoughts. So if our desires and affections are set on God and living a life that pleases HIM, our thoughts and actions will be directed that way as well. After she posted this we talked and she gave the annalogy of work. example When I first stared my job in the hospital my desire was to please my employer as to get paid. At first I had to think intentinally about what I was doing then as time passed My desire to please and my intetanality took over as second nature. much like our spiritual life. I MUST STRESS THIS ENTIRE PROCESS IS GIVEN TO US BY GOD IT IS A GIFT OF GRACE. I DO NOT WANT ANYONE THINKING I BELIEVE YOU CAN DO ANY OF THIS OUT OF HUMAN STRENGTH. In Christ Tim

    Second day clarification

I would like to start tonight by clarifying that I am reading book that is a collection of "Defotional Classics." The section I am now reading is a section on "A Prayer Filled Life." My first day yesterday was based on Brother Lawrence life and learning how to stay in constant connection with God. Living in his presence at all times by making it a habit of directing your thoughts on God at all times. I found it hard to do and wondered if I needed to accomplish this goal. Or to have a heart that is devoted to God and rely on the Holy Spirit to prompt me to respond to God and do the right thing at any given time. I think that with my theological perspective(Arminian)I would have to believe what I am thinking in my reading is touching on my stand on "Sanctification":That we come to a point in our spiritusal life the Holy spirit enable us to not sin and do the right things in life. I know it seems like my blog is changing in it content from staying in God's presence to "sanctification" I guess that is what a blog can do. morph into what I want. If you have any comments on my statments comment and let me know we can talk about it. God Bless

    first day of continual thought

The task of keeping God in front of you at all times is hard work. I had to wonder if keeping God up front in your mind and in all situations active to help you work was easier for a 15th century kitchen worker than for me a 21st century hospital laboratory worker. I even wonder if this exercise is needed. Do we need to keep God on our minds at all times or can we depend on the holy spirit to act when we are not activly thinking of God. Do we have to ask WWJD (what would Jesus Do)in this situation or can we depend on the Holy Spirit to prompt us to act in the right way. I guess I would have to believe in the latter. What about the verses like Psa 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 1Th 5:17 Pray4336 without ceasing. is this what Bro. Larry was refering to. I guess I will finish this thought process later I need sleep it is late and my children will be up early. God bless anyone who reads my rambilings I work through idas as I write them in my blog.

    staying in his presence

In my daily reading I was looking at some of Brother Lawrence's (1611-1691) writings. He dedicated his life to service to a order of monks in the city of Paris. No task was too small for him he called himself  "a servant to God's servants" he worked long hours in the kitchen. The Abbot of the monistary was facinated by Brother Lawrence's life long quest to develop a habitual sence of God's presence.

Brother Lawrence made the point that I fully agree with that when we walk in God's presence, keeping him ever before us we are prevented form willfully offending God. By striving to keep in constant contact with God we are able to ask and receive the grace we need to continue and grow in his love.

Brother Lawrence went on to say that after ten years of a constant struggle to keep in God's presence at all times it became a habit. He went on to say he lost the need  to have set daily prayer time because he was praying and living in God's  presence all the time.

All this to say " am going to try to learn this habit I am sure I will not gain comand of it in a few weeks. But I will try to keep my thoughts on God all day and when I am preforming my everyday tasks at home and work I will try to keep God at the center of my mind of why I am doing said tasks (boy did that sound like lawyer talk). I have always told myself I was giong to work and do it as unto Christ but not very often do I tell myself this why I am in the middle of the work. In short I am going to try to keep God on my mind all the time. I think this is a lofty goal but am not sure the human mind can do it. I think that is why Bro. Lawrence said his habit was "a gift from God.
