WHAT WAS SATAN’S SECOND TEST TO JOB? After Satan’s first test of Job, the angels went to present themselves to God and Satan was there. God again questioned him concerning Job. Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil. And he still maintains his integrity, though you incited me against him to ruin him without any reason (Job 2: 3). Satan said to God that if he allowed Job’s flesh and bones to be struck then Job will surely curse him to the face. God gave Satan permission to strike Job with the condition that he did not kill him. So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord and afflicted Job with painful sores from the soles of his feet to the top of his head (Job 2: 7). Job tried to take care of the sores but his wife questioned him. She said, Are you still holding on to your integrity? Curse God and die (Job 2: 9). Job replied, You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble (Job 2: 10). With all his suffering, Job did not sin. Please read more about Job in the Bible in the Book of Job. God has a plan for your life. Surrender your life to him and trust him fully. God will accomplish his plan for your life. If you are not a born again believer, receive Jesus and become a child of God (John 1: 12; Rom. 10: 9-10). Jesus is the only way to heaven. He said, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me (John 14: 6). WHAT WAS SATAN’S FIRST TEST TO JOB? After God discussed Job’s character with Satan (blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil, ) Satan responded by saying that Job feared God because he had put a hedge around him and his household and everything that he has. You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land (Job 1: 10). Satan challenged God to strike everything that Job had and Job would curse him. God gave Satan permission to strike all of Job’s possession. But he was warned that he should not do anything to Job himself. What did Satan strike? 1) Job’s oxen and donkeys were carried off by the Sabeans and all his servants were killed. 2) Job’s sheep and servants were burned up. 3) Job’s camels were carried off by the Chaldeans and his servants were killed. 4) Job’s children were killed when the house in which they had gathered collapsed. What was Job’s response? Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship (Job 1: 20). He said, Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised (Job 1: 21). The Bible informs us that Job did not charge God with wrongdoing. Job did not sin. WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT JOB? Job is the chief character of the Book of Job. The book is one of the wisdom books of the Old Testament and a literary masterpiece. The author is unknown and the date of writing is unknown. The book concerns God’s justice in his dealing with human beings. The Bible informs us that Job lived in the land of Uz. We are not able to locate Uz on the present day map of the world. Job was married and had seven sons and three daughters. He was a wealthy farmer with thousands of animals – sheep, camels, oxen and donkeys. Job had many servants. The Bible informs us that Job was the greatest man among all the people of the East. Job was very interested in his children. After a period of feasting ended, Job had them purified. Fearing that his children had sinned, he sacrificed a burnt offering for each of them early in the morning. We read, Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts (Job 1: 5). God called Job his servant. God said to Satan, Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil (Job 1: 8). Please read more about Job in the Bible in the Book of Job. God has a plan for your life. Surrender your life to him and trust him fully. God will accomplish his plan for your life. THE GRACIOUSNESS OF GOD AND THE GREATNESS OF MORDECAI Through God’s grace, Esther and Mordecai, both Jews, served in the palace of a pagan king. Mordecai had previously said to Esther, And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this (Esther 414)? Haman was put to death by hanging before the date of the planned destruction of the Jews. He had set the thirteenth day of the twelfth month as the time for the Jews to be destroyed. But Mordecai was instrumental in what led up to Haman’s death. As a result, King Xerxes promoted Mordecai to replace Haman. Queen Esther and Mordecai persuaded King Xerxes to issue a new edict in favor of the Jews. Mordecai the Jew was second in rank to King Xerxes, preeminent among the Jews, and held in high esteem by his many fellow Jews, because he worked for the good of his people and spoke up for the welfare of all the Jews (Esther 10: 3). A full account of the greatness of Mordecai is written in the book of the annals of the kings of Media and Persia (Esther 10: 2). Had it not been for the grace of God all the Jews in the provinces over which King Xerxes reigned would have been destroyed. Please read the full story in the Book of Esther. God has a plan for your life. Surrender your life to him and trust him fully. God will accomplish his plan for your life. TRIUMPH FOR THE JEWS – PURIM CELEBRATED Haman had set the thirteenth day of the twelfth month as the time for the Jews to be destroyed. But his death and the promotion of Mordecai to replace him brought great rejoicing among the Jews on that very day because Mordecai and Queen Esther persuaded King Xerxes to issue a new edict in favor of the Jews. The Jews assembled in their cities in all the provinces of King Xerxes to attack those seeking their destruction. No one could stand against them, because the people of all the other nationalities were afraid of them. And all the nobles of the provinces, the satraps, the governors and the king’s administrators helped the Jews, because fear of Mordecai had seized them. Mordecai was prominent in the palace; his reputation spread throughout the provinces, and he became more and more powerful. The Jews struck down all their enemies with the sword, killing and destroying them, and they did what they pleased to those who hated them (Esther 9: 2-5). The Jews in Susa assembled on the thirteenth and fourteenth and they rested on the fifteenth. They made the fifteenth a day of feasting and joy. As a result of this victory, Jews living in villages observe the fourteenth of the twelfth month, the month of Adar, as a day of joy and feasting. They give gifts to each other on this day. Purim is celebrated by Jews today. It is celebrated on the fourteenth or fifteenth. Purim comes from the word pur meaning the lot. Haman, the enemy of all the Jews had plotted to destroy them and had cast the pur for their ruin and destruction. Please read the full story in the Book of Esther. God has a plan for your life. Surrender your life to him and trust him fully. God will accomplish his plan for your life. If you are not a born again believer, receive Jesus and become a child of God (John 1: 12; Rom. 10: 9-10). KING XERXES PREVENTED THE DESTRUCTION OF THE JEWS Haman was the enemy of the Jews and wished to destroy them. The king gave Queen Esther Haman’s estate after he was hanged and she appointed Mordecai, her cousin, over it. The king reclaimed his signet ring from Haman and gave it to Mordecai. Queen Esther again pleaded with the king concerning Haman’s evil plan against the Jews. She requested that an order be written overruling the instructions that Haman wrote and sent out to the provinces for the destruction of the Jews. She said, For how can I bear to see disaster fall on my people? How can I bear to see the destruction of my family (Esther 8: 6)? King Xerxes replied to Queen Esther and to Mordecai, Because Haman attacked the Jews, I have given his estate to Esther, and they have hanged him on the gallows. Now write another decree in the king’s name in behalf of the Jews as seems best to you, and seal it with the king’s signet ring—for no document written in the king’s name and sealed with his ring can be revoked (Esther 8: 8). The royal secretaries were summoned. They wrote out all Mordecai’s orders to the Jews, and to the satraps, governors and nobles of the 127 provinces stretching from India to Cush (Esther 8: 9). The dispatches were sent by mounted couriers. They rode fast horses which were especially bred for the king. The king’s edict granted the Jews in every city the right to assemble and protect themselves; to destroy, kill and annihilate any armed force of any nationality or province that might attack them and their women and children; and to plunder the property of their enemies (Esther 8: 11). The city of Susa held a joyous celebration. For the Jews it was a time of happiness and joy, gladness and honor. In every province and in every city, wherever the edict of the king went, there was joy and gladness among the Jews, with feasting and celebrating. And many people of other nationalities became Jews because fear of the Jews had seized them (Esther 8: 16-17). Please read the full story in the Book of Esther. God has a plan for your life. HAMAN HANGED FOR PLOTTING THE DESTRUCTION OF THE JEWS After Mordecai was honored, Haman returned to his home deeply grieved and told his wife and friends everything that had happened to him. His advisers and his wife said to him, ‘Since Mordecai, before whom your downfall has started, is of Jewish origin, you cannot stand against him—you will surely come to ruin!’ While they were still talking with him, the king’s eunuchs arrived and hurried Haman away to the banquet Esther had prepared (Esther 6: 13-14). As they were drinking wine, the king asked Esther what he petition was. Queen Esther said, ‘If I have found favor with you, O king, and if it pleases your majesty, grant me my life—this is my petition. And spare my people—this is my request. For I and my people have been sold for destruction and slaughter and annihilation. If we had merely been sold as male and female slaves, I would have kept quiet, because no such distress would justify disturbing the king’ (Esther 7: 3-4). Haman was terrified when King Xerxes learned from Esther that the destruction of the Jews had been planned by him. The king got up in a rage and left. But Haman stayed behind to beg Queen Esther for his life. When the king returned Haman was falling on the couch where Queen Esther was reclining. Haman was actually begging Queen Esther for mercy but the king believed that he was molesting her. As a result, the king had Haman hanged on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. MORDECAI HONORED Esther disregarded the law of the palace and approached the king. When he saw Esther standing in the court, he was pleased with her and held out the gold scepter. She approached him and touched the tip of the scepter. The king asked, What is it, Queen Esther? What is your request? Even up to half the kingdom, it will be given you (Esther 5: 3). Esther requested that the king and Haman attend a banquet that she had prepared for Haman. They both attended the banquet. Esther invited the king and Haman to a second banquet. Haman was very happy. But when he saw Mordecai, he was filled with rage because Mordecai did not show him any respect. He went home and discussed Mordecai with his wife and friends. They advised him as follows, Have a gallows built, seventy-five feet high, and ask the king in the morning to have Mordecai hanged on it. Then go with the king to the dinner and be happy (Esther 5: 14). Haman was delighted and he had the gallows built. But the night before Esther’s banquet the king was not able to sleep so he ordered the book containing the record of his reign to be brought in and read to him. He learned that Mordecai had exposed a plot to assassinate him but he was not rewarded. The king asked Haman what should be done for the man he wished to honor. Haman suggested the very best honor thinking that he was the man to be honored. Then the king surprised Haman by asking him to bestow what he had suggested on Mordecai. ‘Go at once,’ the king commanded Haman. ‘Get the robe and the horse and do just as you have suggested for Mordecai the Jew, who sits at the king’s gate. Do not neglect anything you have recommended.’ So Haman got the robe and the horse. He robed Mordecai, and led him on horseback through the city streets, proclaiming before him, ‘This is what is done for the man the king delights to honor’ (Esther 6: 11). MORDECAI APPEALS TO QUEEN ESTHER When Mordecai learned that Haman with King Xerxes permission had planned and set a date to kill all the Jews in all the king’s provinces, he tore his clothes and put on sackcloth and ashes. He went into the city wailing loudly and bitterly. In every province to which the edict and order of the king came, there was great mourning among the Jews, with fasting, weeping and wailing. Many lay on sackcloth and ashes (Esther 4: 3). When Queen Esther heard about Mordecai, her cousin, she ordered one of her attendants to find out what was troubling Mordecai and why. Mordecai gave the attendant a copy of the text of the edict and told him to urge Esther to go into the king’s presence to beg for mercy and plead with him for her people. Esther sent and informed Mordecai that it was almost impossible for her to go in to the king because of the law of the palace. He sent and urged her again. Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai. Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my maids will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish (Esther 4: 16). Please read the full story in the Book of Esther. God has a plan for your life. HAMAN PLOTTED TO DESTROY THE JEWS Haman was a noble in King Xerxes’ court. The king honored him by placing him higher than all the other nobles. All the officials at the king’s gate knelt down and paid honor to Haman because the king had so ordered. But Mordecai, the Jew, refused to kneel down or pay him honor. Haman was enraged at Mordecai’s behavior. Knowing that Mordecai was a Jew he scorned the idea of killing only Mordecai. Instead Haman looked for a way to destroy all Mordecai’s people, the Jews, throughout the whole kingdom of Xerxes (Esther 3: 6). A day was selected in the presence of Haman for the massacre. The lot fell on the twelfth month. Then Haman said to King Xerxes, There is a certain people dispersed and scattered among the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom who keep themselves separate. Their customs are different from those of all other people, and they do not obey the king’s laws; it is not in the king’s best interest to tolerate them. If it pleases the king, let a decree be issued to destroy them, and I will put ten thousand talents of silver into the royal treasury for the men who carry out this business (Esther 3: 8-9). The king gave permission to Haman to do with the people as he pleased. Dispatches were sent by couriers to all the king’s provinces with the order to destroy, kill and annihilate all the Jews—young and old, women and little children—on a single day, the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, the month of Adar, and to plunder their goods. A copy of the text of the edict was to be issued as law in every province and made known to the people of every nationality so they would be ready for that day (Esther 3: 13-14). A PLOT TO ASSINATE KING XERXES DISCOVERED Two of King Xerxes’ officers became angry with him and plotted to assassinate him. But Mordecai, a relative of Queen Esther, found out about the plot and informed her. Queen Esther reported the plot to the king and gave credit to her cousin. The king had his officials investigate the plot and they found out that Mordecai’s information was true. As a result, the two officers were hanged on a gallows. HOW DID ESTHER, A JEWISH GIRL, BECOME QUEEN OF A PAGAN KING? After Queen Vashti was deposed, the personal attendants of King Xerxes proposed that they make a search for beautiful young virgins for the king. ‘Let the king appoint commissioners in every province of his realm to bring all these beautiful girls into the harem at the citadel of Susa. Let them be placed under the care of Hegai, the king’s eunuch, who is in charge of the women; and let beauty treatments be given to them. Then let the girl who pleases the king be queen instead of Vashti.’ This advice appealed to the king, and he followed it (Esther 2: 2-4). There was a Jewish man working in the citadel of Susa. His name was Mordecai. He had a cousin named Hadassah, also known as Esther. She was lovely in form and features. Along with other girls, Esther was taken to the palace and placed under the care of Hegai who was in charge of the harem. Esther won his favor and received special treatment but she did not reveal her nationality and family background. Now the king was attracted to Esther more than to any of the other women, and she won his favor and approval more than any of the other virgins. So he set a royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti (Esther 2: 17). Please read the full story in the Book of Esther. God has a plan for your life. WHY WAS QUEEN VASHTI DEPOSED? King Xerxes gave a banquet during the third year of his reign for all his nobles and officials. For one hundred and eighty days he showed the great wealth of his kingdom and the glory of his majesty. Following the one hundred and eighty days, the king gave another banquet which lasted for seven days. The banquet was held in the enclosed garden of the palace. All the people who lived in the citadel of Susa were invited. Queen Vashti also gave a banquet. This banquet was for the women who lived in the palace. On the seventh day of the king’s banquet when he was under the influence of wine, he commanded the eunuchs who served him to bring in Queen Vashti, wearing her royal crown so that he could display her beauty to the people and nobles. But when the attendants delivered the king’s command, Queen Vashti refused to come. Then the king became furious and burned with anger (Esther 1: 12). The king consulted his legal experts and it was decided that Queen Vashti should be deposed. So Vashti was not able to enter the king’s presence again. FOREIGNERS EXCLUDED FROM THE ASSEMBLY OF GOD When the Israelites came out of Egypt they were not assisted by the Ammonites and Moabites with food and water. Instead Balak, King of Moab, sent messengers to summon Balaam. Balak said, A people has come out of Egypt; they cover the face of the land and have settled next to me. Now come and put a curse on these people, because they are too powerful for me. Perhaps then I will be able to defeat them and drive them out of the country. For I know that those you bless are blessed, and those you curse are cursed (Num. 22: 5-6). But God spoke to Balaam, Since these men have come to summon you, go with them, but do only what I tell you (Num. 22: 20). God turned the curse into a blessing. When Nehemiah had the Book of Moses read to the people, all who were of foreign descent were excluded from Israel since Moses wrote that no Ammonite or Moabite was to be ever admitted into the assembly of God. THE WALLS OF JERUSALEM WERE MIRACULOUSLY REBUILT The enemies of the Jews continued their opposition but with God’s help the high priest, his fellow priests and the Jewish people set out to rebuild the walls. The people worked with all their heart and in a short time the wall was rebuilt to half of its height. When the enemies of the Jews heard that the repairs to the walls had gone ahead and that the gaps were being closed, they were very angry. They plotted to fight against Jerusalem and stir up trouble against it. But the Jews prayed to God and posted a guard day and night to meet the threat. From that day on, half of the men did the work while the other half were equipped with spears, shields, bows and armor. The officers posted themselves behind all the people of Judah who were building the wall. Those who carried materials did their work with one hand and held a weapon in the other, and each of the builders wore his sword at his side as he worked. But the man who sounded the trumpet stayed with me (Neh. 4: 16-18). The wall was completed in fifty-two days (Neh. 6: 15). When all our enemies heard about this and all the surrounding nations saw it, our enemies lost their self-confidence, because they realized that this work had been done with the help of our God (Neh. 6: 16). Please read the full story in the Book of Nehemiah. NEHEMIAH INSPECTS THE WALLS OF JERUSALEM Nehemiah arrived in Jerusalem and after three days, during the night he went out with a few men. He did not mention to anyone what God had placed on his heart to do for Jerusalem. He left the men and went out riding examining the walls of the city. On coming back, he said to them, You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be in disgrace (Neh. 2: 17). He also told them about God’s grace to him and what King Artaxerxes had said. They all agreed that they should start rebuilding the wall. But the enemies of the Jews on hearing what they were doing mocked and ridiculed them. They said, What is this you are doing? Are you rebelling against the king (Neh. 2: 19)? Nehemiah answered, The God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding, but as for you, you have no share in Jerusalem or any claim or historic right to it (Neh. 2: 20). Please read the full story in the Book of Nehemiah. NEHEMIAH GOES TO JERUSALEM Nehemiah was the cupbearer to King Artaxerxes. In the twentieth year of his reign, Nehemiah took wine to the king. The king observed that Nehemiah had a sad face which he never had previously. As a result the king asked him, Why does your face look so sad when you are not ill? This can be nothing but sadness of heart (Neh. 2: 2). Nehemiah explained to him that he was sad because Jerusalem was lying in ruins. He said, Why should my face not look sad when the city where my fathers are buried lies in ruins, and its gates have been destroyed by fire (Neh. 2: 3). The king asked Nehemiah what he wanted. Nehemiah prayed to God and then answered. He said, If it pleases the king and if your servant has found favor in his sight, let him send me to the city in Judah where my fathers are buried so that I can rebuild it (Neh. 2: 5). Because the hand of God was upon Nehemiah, the king gave him permission to return to Jerusalem as well as granting him other requests. Please read the full story in the Book of Nehemiah. THE COMPLETION AND DEDICATION OF THE TEMPLE During the second year of the return of the exiles, Levites twenty years of age and older were appointed to supervise the building of the temple. When the builders laid the foundation of the temple, the priests and the Levites with their musical instruments, trumpets and cymbals, assembled in their places to praise the Lord, as prescribed by King David. They sang to the Lord with praise and thanksgiving. He is good; his love to Israel endures forever (Ezra 3: 11). The people gave a great shout of praise to the Lord because the foundation of the temple was laid. But many of the older priests and Levites and family heads, who had seen the former temple, wept aloud when they saw the foundation of this temple being laid, while many others shouted for joy (Ezra 3: 12). The enemies of the Jews, the men of Trans-Euphrates, set out to discourage the people of Judah from completing the building. Thus the work on the temple came to a standstill. But the people of Israel appealed to Darius and he intervened. He sent this message to the men of Trans-Euphrates. Do not interfere with the work on this temple of God. Let the governor of the Jews and the Jewish elders rebuild this house of God on its site (Ezra 6: 7). In the sixth year of the reign of Darius, the temple was completed. Then the people of Israel as well as the priests and Levites celebrated the dedication of the temple. Please read the full story in the Book of Ezra. God has a plan for your life. THE PROCLAMATION OF KING CYRUS OF PERSIA During the first year of the reign of Cyrus, the Lord moved his heart to make a proclamation throughout his kingdom and to put it in writing. This was his proclamation: The Lord, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and he has appointed me to build a temple for him at Jerusalem in Judah. Anyone of his people among you—may his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem in Judah and build the temple of the Lord, the God of Israel, the God who is in Jerusalem. And the people of any place where survivors may now be living are to provide him with silver and gold, with goods and livestock, and with freewill offerings for the temple of God in Jerusalem (Ezra 1: 2-4). As a result of the proclamation, the family heads of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests and Levites on whose hearts God had moved, prepared to go up and build the house of the Lord. Their neighbours assisted them with silver and gold, with goods and livestock and with valuable gifts as well as freewill offerings. Apart from those gifts, King Cyrus gave them the articles belonging to the temple which Nebuchadnezzar had carried away from Jerusalem and placed in the temple of his god. EZRA GOES TO JERUSALEM Ezra was one of the exiles in Babylon. He was in the service of King Artaxerxes. During the seventh year of the reign of King Artaxerxes, Ezra received his permission and went up to Jerusalem. The king had granted him everything he asked, for the hand of the Lord his God was on him. Some of the Israelites, including priests, Levites, singers, gatekeepers and temple servants, also came up to Jerusalem in the seventh year of King Artaxerxes (Ezra 7: 7). Ezra was a priest and teacher and devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the Lord and to teaching its decrees. King Artaxerxes wrote a letter for Ezra. The letter read in part, Now I decree that any of the Israelites in my kingdom, including priests and Levites, who wish to go to Jerusalem with you, may go. You are sent by the king and his seven advisers to inquire about Judah and Jerusalem with regard to the Law of your God, which is in your hand. … Deliver to the God of Jerusalem all the articles entrusted to you for worship in the temple of your God. And anything else needed for the temple of your God that you may have occasion to supply, you may provide from the royal treasury. Now I, King Artaxerxes, order all the treasurers of Trans-Euphrates to provide with diligence whatever Ezra the priest, a teacher of the Law of the God of heaven, may ask of you—up to a hundred talents of silver, a hundred cors of wheat, a hundred baths of wine, a hundred baths of olive oil, and salt without limit. Whatever the God of heaven has prescribed, let it be done with diligence for the temple of the God of heaven. … You are also to know that you have no authority to impose taxes, tribute or duty on any of the priests, Levites, singers, gatekeepers, temple servants or other workers at this house of God. … Because the hand of the Lord my God was on me, I took courage and gathered leading men from Israel to go up with me (Ezra 7: 13-14, 19-23, 24, 28). FALSE TEACHING OF MORMONISM MORMONISM'S GOD WAS ONCE A MAN
"God himself was once as we are now, and is an exalted man - I say, if you were to see him today, you would see him like a man in form - like yourselves in all the person, image, and very form as a man. He was once a man like us; yea, that God himself, the Father of us all, dwelt on an earth." Joseph Smith, History of the Church, Vol. 6, p. 305.
WHAT THE BIBLE TEACHES - God is eternal. He created the heavens and the earth and everything in them ( Gen. 1:1-2). In time, Jesus, who is God, one of the persons of the Trinity, and therefore eternal, became man (the Son of God), the God-man (John 1:1-3, 14). If according to Mormans, God is an exalted man, where did that man come from? Who created him? Mormonism is a cult. IS THE "GOD" OF MORMANISM the GOD OF THE BIBLE? “The universe is filled with vast numbers of intelligences, and we further learn that Elohim is God simply because all of these intelligences honor and sustain him as such-if He should ever do anything to violate the confidence or ‘sense of justice” of these intelligences, they would promptly withdraw their support, and the “power” of God would disintegrate-He would cease to be God.” W. Cleon Skousen (BYU Professor & Founder of Mormon-based Freemen Institute), The First 2000 years, p. 355. The Bible teaches that God is infinite – omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent ( 2 Chronicles 6: 18; Psalm 102:12; Psalm 104: 1-9; Psalm 139: 4-8; Psalm 145:3; Job 42:2; Jeremiah 23:24; 2 Peter 3: 10-13; Revelation 4:8). Mormonism's God is inferior to the God of the Bible. Mormonism is a cult. MORMONISM DENIES THE INSPIRATION OF SCRIPTURE "Ignorant translators, careless transcribers, or designing and corrupt priests have committed many errors - many plain and precious things were deleted, in consequence of which error and falsehood poured into the various churches. One of the great heresies of modern Christendom is the unfounded assumption that the Bible contains all of the inspired teachings now extant among men." Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, pp. 82, 83. The Bible: All Scripture is inspired by God ... (2 Tim. 3: 16; Gal.1:11-12). Mormonism is a cult. MORMONISM TEACHES FEMALE GODS "In the heaven where our spirits were born, there are many Gods, each of whom has his own wife or wives, which were given to him previous to his redemption while yet in his mortal state." Orson Pratt (Apostle), The Seer, p. 37. The Bible : There is one God (Deut. 6: 4) and He is revealed in three persons - God the Father (Matt. 3: 17; John 17: 24), God the Son (Jesus Christ) (John 1: 18; John 3: 16) and God the Holy Spirit (Gen. 1: 2; John 14: 26; Acts 16: 6-7; Eph. 4: 30). Mormonism is a cult. MORMONISM'S JESUS WAS MARRIED "Jesus was the bridegroom at the marriage of Cana of Galilee - We say it was Jesus Christ who was married, to be brought into relation whereby he could see his seed." Orson Hyde (Apostle), Journal of Discourses, Vol. 2, p. 82. The Bible: Read John 2: 1-12, Jesus Changes Water to Wine Mormonism is a cult. MORMONISM DENIES VIRGIN BIRTH "Christ was begotten by an immortal Father in the same way that mortal men are begotten by mortal fathers - Christ was born into the world as the literal Son of this Holy Being; he was born in the same personal, real and literal sense that any mortal son is born to a mortal father." Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, p. 547, p. 742. The Scriptures: "How will this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin" (Luke 1: 34)? “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God” (Luke 1: 35). Jesus was conceived by a miracle from the Holy Spirit in the womb of the virgin Mary. Mormonism is a cult. MORMONISM TEACHES THAT JESUS AND SATAN ARE BROTHERS "The appointment of Jesus to be the Savior of the world was contested by one of the other sons of God. He was called Lucifer-this spirit- brother of Jesus desperately tried to become the Savior of mankind." Milton R. Hunter (First Council of Seventy), The Gospel Through the Ages, p. 15. THE BIBLE. Jesus is the only begotten Son and is God the Son ( John 1: 1-14, 18). Jesus is the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace ( Isa. 9: 6). Jesus created Satan because Jesus created the universe and everything in it (Heb. 1: 1-3, 8, 10). Mormonism is a cult. God has a plan for your life. Surrender your life to him and trust him fully. God will accomplish his plan for your life. If you are not a born again believer, receive Jesus and become a child of God (John 1: 12; Rom. 10: 9-10). UNSCRIPTURAL TEACHING OF THE SEVENTH DAY ADVENTIST CHURCH The Seventh Day Adventist Church teaches soul sleep, that is, the soul (spirit) remains in the grave until the resurrection. The Bible teaches that the soul (spirit) when a person dies goes to heaven or hell (hades). The spirit of a believer goes to heaven (Phil.1:23, Luke 16:22; Eccl. 12:6-7; 1 Thess. 4: 13-14) and the spirit of an unbeliever goes to hell (hades) (Luke 16:23). The Seventh Day Adventist Church observes the Sabbath. The Sabbath law was given to the Israelites under the first covenant (Exod. 31:12-17) but the first covenant became obsolete (Heb. 8:7-13). The Seventh Day Adventist Church teaches that after the judgment at the Second Coming of Jesus the earth will remain desolate for a thousand years. The Bible teaches that God will create a new heaven and a new earth on the day of judgment (2 Pet. 3:3-13). UNSCRIPTURAL TEACHING OF THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH The Roman Catholic Church teaches that some believers will go into purgatory. After prayers for those people, they will eventually go into heaven. THE BIBLE: The Scriptures do not teach anything about purgatory. At death, the spirit of a believer goes to heaven and the spirit of an unbeliever goes to hell (hades) (Ecclesiastes12:6-7; Luke 16:19-24; Philippians 1:21-23). The Roman Catholic Church teaches that Mary was sinless. THE BIBLE: Mary was born from the union of two parents and she was thereforeconceived in sin(Psalm 51:5).The Bible informsus that all have sinned(Rom.3:23).We also learn from Scripture that there is not one righteous person on the earth(Eccl.7:20).Therefore it is false to teach that Mary was sinless. The Roman Catholic Church teaches that children are saved when they are baptized. THE BIBLE: No! Baptism identifies us with the death and resurrection of Jesus. We are saved by grace through faith - by believing (John 3:16;Ephesians 2:8-9; John 1:12-13; Acts 16:31).Baptism comes after believing(Acts 16:32-33). The Roman Catholic Church teaches that during the Eucharist (Holy Communion)thebread and wine become the actual body and blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. THE BIBLE: The bread and wine are symbols of the body and blood of Jesus. Why do we participate in the Eucharist? The apostle Paul wrote: “For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes( 1 Corinthians 11:26). When we are saved we have Jesus living in us in the person of the Holy Spirit(Ephesians 1:13-14). The bread and wine are reminders of the sacrifice of our Lord. They are symbols. They do not become the actual body and blood of Jesus. The Roman Catholic Church teaches that the Pope is infallible. THE BIBLE: No!(see Romans 3:23; Ecclesiastes 7:20). Only God is infallible(Prov.30:5-6). God has a plan for your life. Surrender your life to him and trust him fully. God will accomplish his plan for your life. If you are not a born again believer, receive Jesus and become a child of God (John 1: 12; Rom. 10: 9-10). UNSCRIPTURAL TEACHING OF JEHOVAH WITNESSES Jehovah witnesses teach that Jesus is a god. The Bible teaches that Jesus is God (Isa. 7: 14 (Matt. 1: 23); Isa. 9: 6; John 1: 1-3; Heb. 1: 8-10; Rev. 11: 15; Rev. 1: 22). Jehovah witnesses teach that the Holy Spirit is a force. The Bible teaches that the Holy Spirit is a person, one of the three persons who make up the Godhead (Gen. 1: 2; Acts 5: 3-4; Eph. 1: 13-14; Eph. 4: 32). Jehovah witnesses teach monotheism ( one God "singular") The Bible teaches Trinitarianism (one God in three persons - God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit) (Matt. 3: 16-17; Luke 1: 26-36; Matt. 28: 19). Jehovah witnesses teach that the soul (spirit) remains in the grave until the resurrection. The Bible teaches that the soul (spirit) when a person dies goes to heaven or hell (hades). The spirit of a believer goes to heaven (Phil.1:23, Luke 16:22) and the spirit of an unbeliever goes to hell (hades) (Luke 16:23). Jehovah witnesses teach that a person does not have to be born again to be saved. Thus, one needs to be born again in order to enter into God’s kingdom, not in order to receive salvation. … The purpose of the new birth is to prepare a limited group of humans for heavenly rulership (The Watchtower – Announcing Jehovah’s Kingdom, April 9, 2009, page 7). The Bible teaches that when a person believes the gospel he is born again into the kingdom of God, that is, he is saved (Eph. 1: 13-14). Salvation is synonymous with being born again. God has a plan for your life. Surrender your life to him and trust him fully. God will accomplish his plan for your life. WHAT LED TO PERMISSION TO COMPLETE THE REBUILDING OF THE TEMPLE AFTER CONSTRUCTION WAS BROUGHT TO A STANDSTILL? The enemies of Israel, the men of Trans-Euphrates, sent a report to King Darius informing him that the Jews were rebuilding the temple claiming that King Cyrus, king of Babylon, had issued a decree to rebuild this house of God. King Darius issued an order to search the archives in the treasury at Babylon. A scroll was found in the citadel of Ecbatana in the province of Media on which Cyrus’ decree to rebuild the temple was recorded. When King Darius received the scroll, he sent the following communication to the enemies of the Jews. Now then, Tattenai, governor of Trans-Euphrates, and Shethar-Bozenai and you, their fellow officials of that province, stay away from there. Do not interfere with the work on this temple of God. Let the governor of the Jews and the Jewish elders rebuild this house of God on its site. Moreover, I hereby decree what you are to do for these elders of the Jews in the construction of this house of God: The expenses of these men are to be fully paid out of the royal treasury, from the revenues of Trans-Euphrates, so that the work will not stop. … May God, who has caused his Name to dwell there, overthrow any king or people who lifts a hand to change this decree or to destroy this temple in Jerusalem. I Darius have decreed it. Let it be carried out with diligence (Ezra 6: 6-12).

WHY WAS THERE OPPOSITION TO THE REBUILDING OF THE TEMPLE? When the enemies of Judah and Benjamin heard that the exiles were rebuilding the temple, they went to Zerubbabel and to the heads of the families and said, Let us help you build because, like you, we seek your God and have been sacrificing to him since the time of Esarhaddon king of Assyria, who brought us here (Ezra 4: 2). Zerubbabel and the others answered, You have no part with us in building a temple to our God. We alone will build it for the Lord, the God of Israel, as King Cyrus, the king of Persia, commanded us (Ezra 4: 3). As a result their enemies set out to discourage them and made them afraid to go on building. They hired counselors to work against them and frustrate their plans during the entire reign of Cyrus king of Persia and down to the reign of Darius king of Persia. Later when Xerxes became king, they made an accusation against the people of Judah and Jerusalem. They continued their opposition during the reign of Artaxerxes. They wrote a letter of complaint to the king and as a result the work on the house of God in Jerusalem came to a standstill until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia (Ezra 4: 24). HOW DID GOD USE CYRUS, A PAGAN KING, TO BLESS THE ISRAELITES? In the first year of his reign, God spoke to Cyrus concerning the Israelites. He was asked to make a proclamation throughout his kingdom and to put it in writing. The proclamation read as follows: The LORD, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and he has appointed me to build a temple for him at Jerusalem in Judah. Please note what the prophet Isaiah said about Cyrus, This is what the LORD says to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I take hold of to subdue nations before him and to strip kings of their armor, to open doors before him so that gates will not be shut: … I will strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged me (Isa. 45: 1,5). As a result of the proclamation of Cyrus the temple was rebuilt. Please read the full story in the Book of Ezra. God has a plan for your life. Surrender your life to him and trust him fully. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE ARK AFTER GOD STRUCK DOWN UZZAH? On the day that God killed Uzzah after he held the ark, David became afraid of God. So he was not willing to take tha ark of God to be with him in the city of David. He took the ark to the house of Obed-Edom. The ark remained there for three months. While the ark was there the Lord blessed Obed-Edom and all of his household. When David was told that the Lord had blessed Obed-Edom and his household because of the ark, he decided to go there and take the ark to Jerusalem. So David went down and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the city of David with rejoicing. When those who were carrying the ark of the Lord had taken six steps, he sacrificed a bull and a fattened calf. David, wearing a linen ephod, danced before the Lord with all his might, while he and the entire house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouts and the sound of trumpets (2 Samuel 6: 12-14). WHY WAS OBADIAH AFRAID TO GO TO AHAB, KING OF ISRAEL, AND INFORM HIM ABOUT ELIJAH? When Jezebel, wife of King Ahab, was killing the prophets of God, Obadiah, the person in charge of the king’s palace, hid a hundred prophets in two caves and supplied them with food. So when God instructed Elijah to present himself to Ahab, he was on the way when he met Obadiah. He asked Obadiah to report to the king that he was back. But Obadiah was fearful that if he took the news to the king he would be killed. He said to Elijah, As surely as the Lord your God lives, there is not a nation or kingdom where my master has not sent someone to look for you. And whenever a nation or kingdom claimed you were not there, he made them swear they could not find you. But now you tell me to go to my master and say, ‘Elijah is here.’ I don’t know where the Spirit of the Lord may carry you when I leave you. If I go and tell Ahab and he doesn’t find you, he will kill me. Yet I your servant have worshiped the Lord since my youth (1 Kings 18: 10-12). But when Elijah assured Obadiah that he would present himself to Ahab, Obadiah went to Ahab with the news. Read the full story in 1 Kings, chapters eighteen. God has a plan for your life. GOD HEALED THE WATER IN JERICHO THROUGH ELISHA After Elijah was taken up to heaven, Elisha replaced him as a prophet of Israel. The men of the city of Jericho said to Elisha, Look , our Lord, this town is well situated, as you can see, but the water is bad and the land is unproductive (2 Kings 2: 19). Elisha asked them to bring him a new bowl and put salt in it. They did as he asked. He went to the spring and threw the salt in it, saying, This is what the Lord says, ‘I have healed this water. Never again will it cause death or make the land unproductive’ (2 Kings 2: 21). As Elisha spoke, the water became wholesome. Read the full story in 2 Kings, chapter two. God has a plan for your life.
