(#13) Dr. J. Dwight Pentecost, onetime President of Dallas Theological Seminary and well known dispensational teacher, writes: The millennial kingdom is declared to be a literal, earthly kingdom over which Christ rules from David’s throne in fulfillment of the Davidic covenant. … This kingdom was proclaimed as being ‘at hand’ at Christ’s first advent but was rejected by Israel and therefore postponed. It will again be announced to Israel in the tribulation period (Matt. 24: 14).  It will be received by Israel and set up at the second advent of Christ (Isa. 24: 23; Rev. 19: 11-16; 20: 1-6). Things to Come, (Zondervan Publishing House, Grand Rapids, MI; 1964), p. 142. (PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR #14).

      DISCUSSION

Dr. Pentecost teaches that the kingdom of God will be offered again to Israel during the tribulation period and they will accept it. It will be set up at the second coming. He believes that the kingdom will last for a thousand years and people will live in natural (physical) bodies and have children.

Is his teaching supported by Scripture?

God has one kingdom, the kingdom of God or the kingdom of heaven (Matt. -24). The kingdom was entrusted to the Jewish leaders, the priests and the elders, but they questioned the authority of Jesus and failed to produce fruit. As a result the kingdom was taken away from them (Matt. ) and given to the ordinary Jewish people, the disciples (Luke ) through whom the church came into being and flourished.

Dr. Pentecost refers to Isa. 24:23, Rev. 19: 11-16 and Rev. 20: 1-6 to support his theory but when we examine a number of Scriptures, we believe that an earthly kingdom which will be given to Israel at the second coming of Jesus and which will last for a thousand years in which people will live in natural (physical) bodies and have children is not scriptural.

We have to remember that the Scripture contains literal, symbolic and figurative language.

When Jesus judges all nations at his second coming, God will not establish a temporary, earthly kingdom for Israel but an eternal kingdom for the righteous, both Jews and Gentiles.

The righteous will be invited into the kingdom of God and the unrighteous will be banished into the eternal fire. Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life  (Matt. 25: 46).

    SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

The Scriptures show that God will create a new heaven and a new earth on the day of judgment (2 Pet. 3: 7-13) and the kingdom of God will be established for the righteous of all ages (Matt. 13: 34; Matt. 25: 34). God will dwell with his people, the righteous, in the new Jerusalem on the new earth (Rev. 21: 1-4).

We conclude that the thousand years (Rev. 20: 1-7) are not literal and future but symbolic and being fulfilled now.

The teaching of Dr. Pentecost is not supported by Scripture.

It will again be announced to Israel in the tribulation period (Matt. 24: 14). Things to Come (Zondervan Publishing House, Grand Rapids, MI; 1964), p. 142. (PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR #13).

      DISCUSSION

Dr. Pentecost teaches that the kingdom of God was offered to Israel during the ministry of Jesus but they rejected it. He uses  Matt. 24: 14 to teach that the kingdom of God will be announced again to Israel in the tribulation period.

Is his teaching supported by Scripture?

Let us examine carefully the text of Matt. 24: 14.

And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come (NIV).

The preceding Scripture does not state that the kingdom of God will be announced to Israel during the tribulation period.

The passage teaches that the gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations. This is the preaching of the Great Commission.

Jesus said to his disciples, Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age (Matt. 28: 19).

      SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

The preaching of the gospel of the kingdom is for all people, Jews and Gentiles. When Jesus judges all nations at his second coming, all the righteous (Jews and Gentiles) will be invited into the kingdom (Matt. 25: 34).

The teaching of Dr. Pentecost is not supported by Scripture.

      DISCUSSION

Dr. Pentecost teaches that the kingdom of God was rejected by Israel and therefore postponed. It will be offered again to Israel during the tribulation period and they will accept it. The kingdom will be set up after the second coming of Jesus. He teaches that people will live in natural (physical) bodies for a thousand years in that kingdom. They will have children and carry out the routines of life that we are engaged in at the present time.

Is his teaching supported by Scripture?

The kingdom of God is not an earthly kingdom but a spiritual one. In order to enter that kingdom, a person must be born again by the spirit of God.

Jesus declared, I tell you the truth, unless a man is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God (John 3: 3).

Jesus answered, I tell you the truth, unless a man is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit (John 3: 5-6).

      SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

When Jesus judges all nations at his second coming, the unrighteous will go into eternal punishment and the righteous into eternal life (Matt. 25: 46).

Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world (Matt. 25: 34).

If all believers, dead and living, put on immortality at the coming of Jesus (1 Cor. 15: 50-54) and all unbelievers are punished with everlasting destruction (2 Thess. 1: 6-10), from where will people come in natural (physical) bodies to go into a millennium and have children?

(PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR #11).

      DISCUSSION

Dr. Pentecost teaches that Israel was offered an earthly kingdom at the first coming of Jesus but they rejected it and the kingdom was postponed.

Is his teaching supported by Scripture?

He uses Matt. 23: 37-39 for his theory.

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing. Look, your house is left to you desolate. For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’  (NIV).

There is no information in the preceding Scripture which tells us that a kingdom was offered, rejected, and postponed.

We learn from Scripture that the kingdom of God was taken away from the chief priests and the elders and given to the ordinary people, the disciples, who formed the nucleus of the church.

Jesus said to the chief priests and the elders, Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit (Matt. 21: 43, NIV).

Jesus said to his disciples, Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom (Matt. ).

      SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

The kingdom of God was given to the chief priests and elders of Israel to produce fruit but they rejected it. They questioned the authority of Jesus. The kingdom was taken away from them and given to the ordinary people, the disciples, through whom the church developed.

There is no promise in the Scriptures that the kingdom of God will be given back to Israel. The church has been given the responsibility to preach the gospel to all nations (Matt. 28: 19). Through the gospel Gentiles are heirs together with Israel members together of one body (Eph. 3: 6).

Those who receive Jesus Christ as Savior will be members of the kingdom of God, both Jews and Gentiles (John ; Rom. 10: 9).

The teaching of Dr. Pentecost is not supported by Scripture.

(PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR #10).

      DISCUSSION

Dr. Pentecost teaches that the millennial kingdom is a literal, earthly kingdom which will be set up after the second advent of Christ.

Is his teaching supported by Scripture?

We are informed in the Scriptures that at the second advent of Christ  all nations will be judged. Some people will go into eternal punishment and some into eternal life.

When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. Then the King will say to those on his right, Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world (Matt.25:31-34). ... Then he will say to those on his left, Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels (Matt.25:41). ... Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life (Matt. 25:

    46).

Where will people come from in natural (physical) bodies to go into an earthly kingdom? (See 1 Cor. 15: 52-54; Phil. 3: 20-21).

Until you can find an answer from the Scriptures for this question, you should dismiss the idea of an earthly kingdom following the second advent.

      SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

If some people go into eternal punishment and some into eternal life when Jesus judges all nations, then there will be no people in natural (physical) bodies to go into an earthly kingdom, the millennial kingdom.

The teaching of Dr. Pentecost is not supported by Scripture.

      DISCUSSION

Dr. Pentecost teaches that Israel will go into an earthly millennial kingdom after the second advent of Christ.

Is his teaching supported by Scripture?

The prophet Daniel and the New Testament writers do not promise Israel an earthly millennial kingdom after the second advent of Jesus.

The apostle John who wrote Rev. 20: 1-7 also wrote Rev. 11: 15 where he states that the eternal reign of Jesus will commence at the sounding of the 7th. trumpet, that is, at the end of the Tribulation.

Matthew and Luke taught that eternity will commence when Jesus judges the world at his Second Coming (Matt.13:36-43; Matt.25:31-46; Matt.11:23-24; Luke10:14-15).

The apostle Peter taught that eternity will commence on the day of judgment when a new heaven and a new earth will be created (2 Peter 3: 3-13).

The prophet Daniel taught that eternity will commence at the end of the Tribulation (Dan. -27).

      SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

The Scriptures show that there will not be a millennial kingdom after the judgment at the Second Coming. We conclude that the thousand years (Rev. 20: 1-7) are not literal and future but symbolic and being fulfilled now.

The teaching of Dr. Pentecost is not supported by Scripture.

      DISCUSSION

Dr. Pentecost teaches that the New Covenant was made with Israel and with them alone.

Is his teaching supported by Scripture?

The New Covenant was first announced to Israel (Jer. 31: 31-33) but the New Covenant is for all people. This is made absolutely clear from the Scriptures.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John ).

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Rom. ).

(#6) Dr. J. Dwight Pentecost, onetime President of Dallas Theological Seminary and well known dispensational teacher, in writing about the New Covenant, states: Thus the covenant that guarantees salvation to the nation Israel must be apart from all human agency and therefore unconditional. Things to Come (Zondervan Publishing House, Grand Rapids, MI; 1964), p. 119. (PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR #7).

                                          DISCUSSION

Dr. Pentecost teaches that the New Covenant guarantees salvation to the nation of Israel and it is therefore unconditional.

Is his teaching supported by Scripture?

The New Covenant does not guarantee salvation to the nation of Israel. The New Covenant is for individuals and not nations. When an individual receives Jesus Christ as Savior he becomes a child of God and receives salvation (John ).

The following Scriptures will prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the nation of Israel is not guaranteed salvation.

Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: ‘Though the number of the Israelites be like the sand by the sea, only the remnant will be saved  (Romans ).

In the whole land, declares the Lord, ‘two-thirds will be struck down and perish; yet one-third will be left in it' (Zech. 13: 8).

                                           SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

Forgiveness of sins is not unconditional. The Scriptures do not teach that the nation of Israel will be converted. They teach that a remnant will be saved (Rom. -28; Zech. 13: 8). This means that the sins of the nation will not be forgiven. The sins of individual Jews will be forgiven as they confess their sins to Jesus (1 John 1: 9).

The teaching of Dr. Pentecost is not supported by Scripture.

(#5) Dr. J. Dwight Pentecost, onetime President of Dallas Theological Seminary and well known dispensational teacher, writes:  Who is the seed of Abraham? It would seem obvious to all who are not deliberately trying to pervert the plain teaching of Scripture that the seed of Abraham, of necessity, is the term applied to the physical descendants of Abraham. Things to Come (Zondervan Publishing House, Grand Rapids, MI; 1964), p. 85. (PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR #6).

      DISCUSSION

Dr. Pentecost teaches that the seed of Abraham is the term applied to the physical descendants of Abraham.

Is his teaching supported by Scripture?

The apostle Paul informs us that Christ and those who belong to him are Abraham's seed.

The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. The Scripture does not say ‘and to seeds,’ meaning many people, but ‘and to your seed,’ meaning one person, who is Christ (Gal. ).

If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise (Gal. ).

                                   SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

The seed of Abraham is Christ and those who belong to him and not the physical descendants of Abraham. The Scripture rejects the teaching of Dr. Pentecost and dispensational teachers.

(#4) Dr. J. Dwight Pentecost, onetime President of Dallas Theological Seminary, writes:  There will be an increase of solar and lunar light in the age. This increased light probably is a major cause in the increased productivity of the earth. Things to Come (Zondervan Publishing House, Grand Rapids, MI; 1964), p.490. (PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR #5).

                                            DISCUSSION

Are the lights of Isaiah 30: 26 literal?

We read: The moon will shine like the sun, and the sunlight will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven full days, when the Lord binds up the bruises of his people and heals the wounds he inflicted (Isa. 30: 26).

Dr. Pentecost writing about the lights of Isaiah 30: 26 states, There will be an increase of solar and lunar light in the age. This increased light probably is a major cause in the increased productivity of the earth.

If the lights are literal as Dr. Pentecost believes, how will humans in natural bodies survive the great heat and intense brightness? How will animals survive? How will plants and vegetation withstand the increased heat and loss of moisture?

Evaporation will cause water supply to be exhausted. Life, for humans, animals, plants and vegetation will be impossible.

Yet Dr. Pentecost and dispensational teachers believe that people will live in those conditions as we do in the lights and temperatures that we experience now. Impossible!

                     SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

We believe that the lights of Isaiah (30: 26) are not literal lights in a millennial kingdom but are symbolic and describe the light that will emanate from the glory of God in the New Jerusalem.

The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp (Rev.21: 23).

(#3) Dr. J. Dwight Pentecost, onetime President of Dallas Theological Seminary and well known dispensational teacher, writes: The church is manifestly an interruption of God’s program for Israel, which was not brought into being until Israel’s rejection of the offer of the Kingdom. … This program must be concluded before God resumes and culminates His program for Israel. This mystery concept of the church makes a pretribulation rapture a necessity. Things to Come, Zondervan Publishing House, Grand Rapids, MI; 1964), p.201. (PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR #4).

                                          DISCUSSION

When will the church be raptured?

Jim McKeever writes: Thus far we have seen that there is Biblical evidence for a Rapture, but that the Rapture will most probably take place at the end of the Tribulation – in fact on the last day of the Tribulation, which is also the last day of this present age.  Christians Will Go Through the Tribulation, Alpha Omega Publishing Company, Medford, 1978), p. 55.

We observe that there are conflicting views. What does the Bible teach?

Jesus taught that the resurrection and the rapture will take place at the last day, at the end of the age, on the day of judgment (John 6: 39-40; Luke 20: 34-36; Matt. 11: 23-24; Luke 10: 15). Therefore the Church will go through the Tribulation

The apostle Paul taught that the resurrection, transformation and the rapture will take place at the last trumpet after the Antichrist is revealed  ( 1 Cor. 15: 50-54; 2 Thess. 2: 1-3). Therefore the Church will go through the Tribulation.

The apostle Peter taught that the rapture will take place on the day of judgment, the day of the Lord (2 Pet. 3: 3-13). Therefore the Church will go through the Tribulation.

The apostle John taught that the resurrection and judgment will take place at the end of the Tribulation, when the seventh angel sounds his trumpet (Rev. 11: 15-18). Therefore the Church will go through the Tribulation.

The prophet Daniel taught that the Church will go through the Tribulation (Dan. -27).

Jesus taught that he will be with his disciples (the church) until the end of the age (Matt. 28: 20). Therefore the church will go through the Tribulation.

The rapture cannot take place before the resurrection of the dead in Christ takes place. Please allow the following Scriptures to speak to you.

And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day (John -40).

Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed (1 Cor. -52).

The people of this age marry and are given in marriage. But those who are considered worthy of taking part in that age and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage, and they can no longer die; for they are like the angels. They are God’s children, since they are children of the resurrection (Luke -36).

    SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

The Scriptures show beyond a reasonable doubt that the Church will go through the Tribulation, therefore making the teaching of Dr. Pentecost and Dispensational Premillennialists unscriptural.

The rapture will take place at the end of the Tribulation at the second coming of Christ. It will take place at the last day, at the last trumpet, at the end of the age.

(#2) Dr. J. Dwight Pentecost, onetime President of Dallas Theological Seminary and well known dispensational teacher, writes: There is no question in the mind of the literal interpreter of the Scriptures but that Israel’s national promises will be fulfilled by the nation itself in the millennial age, which follows the advent of Messiah. Things To Come, (Zondervan Publishing House, Grand Rapids, MI; 1964), p. 535. (PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR #3).

    DISCUSSION

Will Israel’s national promises be fulfilled by the nation itself in a millennial age?

God said to the Israelites, Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation (Exod. 19:5-7).

The Israelites were not faithful to God and this resulted in their captivity. The northern tribes (Israel) went into Assyrian captivity in 721BC and Judah (the southern tribe) went into Babylonian captivity in 586/587 BC.

Listen to what Jesus said to the Jewish leaders in Matthew's Gospel.

Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit (Matt. 21: 43).

Who are the people? The Church, of course, made up of both Jews and Gentiles.

Let us read what Jesus said to his disciples.

Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom (Luke ). The disciples were the nucleus of the Church.

The apostle Peter said to believers:

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light (1 Pet. 2: 9).

Who are God’s chosen people under the NEW COVENANT. God’s chosen people are born again believers, both Jews and Gentiles (John ; John 3: 3, 5-6; John ; Eph. -14; 1 John 5: 1).

Please allow the Holy Spirit to teach you as you read the following Scriptures.

This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus (Eph.3: 6).

You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have been clothed with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise (Gal.3: 26-29).

Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all. Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience (Col. 3:11-12).

                              SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

The only hope for any individual is in the body of Christ, the Church. No promises will be fulfilled outside of the Church. When Jesus returns he will judge all nations (Matt. 25: 31-41).  The righteous will go into eternal life and the unrighteous into eternal punishment (Matt. 25: 46).

Dwight Pentecost, Things to Come (Zondervan Publishing House, Grand Rapids, MI; 1964), p.508. (PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR #2).

    DISCUSSION

I do not believe that the Scriptures support the teaching of a millennium after the judgment at the second coming of Jesus. But if there will be a millennium, how could one group of people be servants of another group of people since on the day of judgment the righteous will go into eternal life and the unrighteous into eternal punishment (Matt. 25: 46). Will one believer be superior to another believer after the judgment?

Will the Gentiles be Israel's servants after the day of judgment in a millennial kingdom?

Please allow the Holy Spirit to teach you as you read the following Scriptures.

This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus (Eph.3: 6).

    SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

The Scriptures do not teach a kingdom in which Gentiles will be servants to Israel. The Scriptures teach an eternal kingdom, the kingdom of God, that will be inhabited by the righteous, both Jews and Gentiles ( Dan. ; Matt.13: 43;  Matt.25: 34; Rev.21: 1-4).

In that kingdom, no group of people will be servants of another group of people. All inhabitants will have the same status because they will be all children of God (John 1: 12-13;  Luke 20: 34-36;  1 Cor.15: 50-54; 1 Thess. 4: 16-17; Phil.3: 20-21; Col.3: 4).

     THE FIRST COVENANT

    Is the first covenant everlasting?

There are some who teach that the first covenant is still in effect. They believe that it is an everlasting covenant.

The Bible talks about "the first covenant.” This was the covenant under which laws were given to the Israelites and others to whom they applied. But God found fault with the people (Heb. 8: 8) and promised them a new covenant (Heb. 8: 8).

For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another. But God found fault with the people and said: ‘The  time is coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. … By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete, and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear (Hebrews 8: 7-8, 13).

First he (Jesus) said, ‘Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them’ (although the law required them to be made). Then he said, ‘Here I am, I have come to do your will.’ He sets aside the first to establish the second. And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all (Hebrews 10: 8-10).

The first covenant became obsolete and disappeared, and God instituted the new covenant through the death and resurrection of Jesus (Matt. 26: 26-28; 1 Corinthians -26).

The new covenant is for the world (John ). The new covenant makes it possible for people to be saved, both Jews and Gentiles (Rom. 10: 9-10; Eph. 3: 6). Salvation is the only passport to the kingdom of God (Matt. ; Matt. 25: 34; Rev. 21: 1-4).

      SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

The first covenant became obsolete and God established a New Covenant. The first covenant is no longer in effect as taught by dispensational teachers.  The Scriptures inform us that Jesus came to fulfill the Law (Matt. ). Jesus is the end of the law (Rom. 10: 4). Please read Ephesians 2: 11-18; 3: 1-6.

For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever (1 Thess. -17).

When will believers meet the Lord in the air?

    DISCUSSION

Believers cannot meet the Lord in the air until the resurrection of the dead in Christ, the righteous.

When will the resurrection of the dead in Christ take place?

And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day (John -40).

    SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

The Scriptures make it abundantly clear that the resurrection of the dead in Christ will take place at the last day, at the last trumpet, at the end of this age.

Therefore believers will meet the Lord in the air at the last day, at the last trumpet, at the end of this age.

The Seventh Day Adventist Church, following the teaching of their prophetess, Ellen G. White, teaches that all believers will live in heaven for a thousand years following the judgment and the rapture at the Second Coming. At the end of the thousand years, Jesus will return to the earth accompanied by all believers and the holy angels. As the New Jerusalem comes down out of heaven it will rest upon the place prepared to receive it and Jesus with all believers and the angels will enter the Holy City. (Ellen G. White. Maranatha, The Lord Is Coming. Review and Herald Publishing Association, Hagerstown, MD, p. 336).

Will believers live in heaven for a thousand years after the judgment and rapture at the end of the Tribulation?

    DISCUSSION

The Scripture informs us that after the judgment, some people will be raptured and some will descend into hell.

But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to the skies? No, you will go down to the depths. … (Matt. 11: 22-23).

We learn from the epistle of Peter that on the day of judgment God will create a new heaven and a new earth.

By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. … But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness (2 Peter 3: 7, 13).

The apostle John informs us that when the new heaven and the new earth are created God will dwell with believers in the new Jerusalem on the new earth.

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away’ (Rev. 21: 1-4).

                                SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

The doctrine of The Seventh Day Adventist Church is not scriptural. When the resurrection, judgment and rapture take place believers will live with God in the new Jerusalem on the new earth (Luke -36; Rev. 11: 18; Rev. 21: 1-4).

Believers will not live in heaven for a thousand years and then accompany Jesus to the new earth to live in the city of God.

Will the church go through the Tribulation?

    DISCUSSION

Jesus taught that the resurrection and the rapture will take place at the last day, at the end of the age, on the day of judgment (John 6: 39-40; Luke 20: 34-36; Matt. 11: 23-24; Luke 10: 15). Therefore the Church will go through the Tribulation.

Jesus taught that he will be with his disciples (the church) until the end of the age (Matt. 28: 20). Therefore the church will go through the Tribulation.

The apostle Paul taught that the resurrection, transformation and the rapture will take place at the last trumpet after the Antichrist is revealed  ( 1 Cor. 15: 50-54; 2 Thess. 2: 1-3). Therefore the Church will go through the Tribulation.

The apostle Peter taught that the judgment will occur on the day of the Lord when a new heaven and a new earth will be created (2 Pet.

    SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

The Scriptures show beyond a reasonable doubt that the church will go through the tribulation because the rapture cannot take place before the resurrection of the  dead in Christ (1 Thess. ). Jesus will raise up all the righteous dead at the last day.

Jesus said, For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day (John 6: 40).

Will there be one day of judgment for all humanity at the coming of Jesus or will there be a judgment at his coming and one a thousand years later?

The Seventh Day Adventist Church along with a number of denominations teach more than one day of judgment. They believe that there will be a judgment at the coming of Jesus and another a thousand years later.

Please allow the Holy Spirit to teach you.

For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead (Acts ).

When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. Then he will say to those on his left, depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life (Matt. 25: 31-33, 41, 46).

In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, … (2 Tim. 4: 1).

But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you. And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to the skies? No, you will go down to the depths (Luke -15).

    SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

God has set a day to judge the world. There will be one judgment for all humanity at the coming of Jesus.

Scripture taken from the HOLY BIBLE, NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION and the AUTHORIZED KING JAMES VERSION.

You may use any version because the concepts are the same.

Will there be one resurrection of all the dead at the coming of Jesus or will there be a resurrection of the righteous at his coming and a resurrection of the unrighteous a thousand years later?

The Seventh Day Adventist Church along with a number of denominations teach more than one future resurrection. They believe that the righteous will be resurrected at the end of the Tribulation and the unrighteous a thousand years later at the end of a thousand years, the millennium.

    Is their teaching scriptural?

Please allow the Holy Spirit to teach you from the following Scriptures.

And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt (Dan. 12: 2, AKJV).

Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake; some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt (Dan. 12: 2, NIV).

Marvel not at this; for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation (John 5: 28-29, AKJV).

Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out – those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned (John 5: 28-29, NIV).

And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust (Acts 24: 15, AKJV).

… and I have the same hope in God as these men, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked (Acts 24: 15; NIV).

                                    SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

The Scriptures support the resurrection of all the dead, righteous and unrighteous, at the coming of Jesus.

    GOD'S WORD IS TRUTH

Will there be two comings of Jesus, one at the end of the Tribulation and the other a thousand years later?

    DISCUSSION

The Seventh day Adventist Church, following the teaching of their prophetess, Ellen G. White, teaches two future comings of Jesus, one at the end of the Tribulation and the other at the end of a thousand years. (Ellen G. White. Maranatha, The Lord Is Coming. Review and Herald Publishing Association, Hagerstown, MD, p. 336).

But the Scriptures teach that there will be only one future coming of Jesus. It will take place on the day of judgment (Heb. 9: 27-28; Acts 3: 21; 2 Tim. 4: 1; Matt. 25: 31-33, 41, 46).

Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him (Heb. 9: 27-28).

He must remain in heaven until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets (Acts ).

In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom (2 Tim. 4: 1).

    SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

The doctrine of The Seventh Day Adventist Church on eschatology is not scriptural. There will be one future coming of Jesus when he will judge all nations and commence his eternal reign.

Will the earth be desolate for a thousand years after the judgment at the Second Coming?

The Seventh Day Adventist Church, following the teaching of their prophetess, Ellen G. White, teaches that following the judgment at the Second Coming, the earth will be desolate for a thousand years (Ellen G. White. Maranatha, The Lord Is Coming. Review and Herald Publishing Association, Hagerstown, MD, p. 306).

                                                         DISCUSSION

According to the Scriptures, eternity will commence following the judgment at the Second Coming, at the end of the Tribulation (Matt. 13: 36-43, 49-50; Matt. 25: 31-46; Matt. 11: 23-24; Luke 10: 14-15; 2 Tim. 4: 1; 2 Pet. 3: 3-13; Rev. 11: 15-18).

By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the  day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. …But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness  ( 2 Pet. 3: 7,10, 13).

    SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

The teaching of the Seventh Day Adventist Church is not in keeping with Scripture. The Scriptures show that after the judgment eternity will commence and God will dwell with believers in the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, on the new earth (Rev. 21: 1-4).

Will there be a millennium (a thousand year period) after the judgment at the Second Coming?

The apostle John who wrote Rev. 20: 1-7 also wrote Rev. 11: 15 where he states that the eternal reign of Jesus will commence at the sounding of the 7th. trumpet, that is, at the end of the Tribulation.

The Scriptures teach that eternity will commence when Jesus judges the world at his Second Coming (Matt.13:36-43; Matt.25:31-46; Matt.11:23-24; Luke10:14-15).

The Scriptures show that there will not be a millennium after the judgment at the Second Coming. We conclude that the thousand years (Rev. 20: 1-7) are not literal and future but symbolic and being fulfilled now.

The thousand years cover a long period of time. For Jesus, they commenced when he ascended to heaven and they will come to an end at his Second Coming. For Satan, they commenced when Jesus began his ministry and they will come to a close when Satan is set free for a short time (Rev. 20: 3).

Could the rapture take place before the last day of this age?

Please allow the Scriptures to guide you.

And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day (John -40).

His disciples came to him and said, ‘Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.’ He answered, ‘The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man. The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear’ (Matt. -43).

                          SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

The rapture will take place at the last day of this age. Thus proving that the Pretribulation rapture theory and the LEFT BEHIND concepts are unscriptural.

What must happen before the Rapture takes place?

The apostle Paul warned the Thessalonians about the time of the rapture so that they will not be deceived. He wrote: Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers, not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by some prophecy, report or letter supposed to have come from us, saying that the day of the Lord has already come. Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God (2 Thess. 2: 1-4).

             SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

The man of lawlessness (the Antichrist) must be revealed before the rapture takes place.  This proves beyond a reasonable doubt that the pretribulation rapture theory is unscriptural.

Will people live in physical bodies after the judgment at the Second Coming of Jesus?

There are four eschatological theories – Historic Premillennialisn, Dispensational Premillennialism,  Postmillennialism and Amillennialism.

Premillennialists (Historic and Dispensational) claim that Isaiah 65: 20-25 is literal and describes conditions in a future millennial kingdom.  They see people living in physical bodies with the capability of having children and carrying out the routines of life in which we are engaged at the present time. Is their teaching Scriptural?

Never again will there be in it an infant who lives but a few days, or an old man who does not live out his years; he who dies at a hundred will be thought a mere youth; he who fails to reach a hundred will be considered accursed. They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. No longer will they build houses and others live in them, or plant and others eat. For as the days of a tree, so will be the days of my people; my chosen ones will long enjoy the works of their hands. They will not toil in vain or bear children doomed to misfortune; for they will be a people blessed by the Lord, they and their descendants with them. Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear. The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, but dust will be the serpent's food. They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountains, says the Lord (Isa. 65: 20-25, NIV).

PLEASE HEED WHAT JESUS TAUGHT.

All believers dead and living will put on immortality at the last trumpet, at the end of the age when Jesus appears and the resurrection and transformation take place (1 Cor. 15: 50-54; Luke 20: 34-36; Phil. 3: 20-21; 2 Tim. 4: 1) and all unbelievers will be punished with everlasting destruction (2 Thess. 1: 6-10).

After the judgment at the Second Coming, some people will go into eternal life and some people will go into eternal punishment (Matt. 25: 46). Those who go into eternal life and eternal punishment will be clothed in spiritual bodies.

Therefore there will be no people in physical (natural) bodies with the capability of having children.

We conclude that the language of Isaiah 65 : 20-25 is symbolic and describes conditions on the new earth (Rev. 21: 1-4).

Amillennialism is one of the four eschatological theories.

Why is Amillennialism the only acceptable eschatological theory?

                                       DISCUSSION

Amillennialism is one of the four theories concerning the Second Coming of Jesus, the judgment, heaven and hell.

Amillennialism was formulated in the fourth century A.D. by Augustine. The theory teaches that there will be only one Second Coming of Jesus (Acts ; Heb. -28; Matt. 25: 31-46). At the time of his coming, the resurrection of all the dead, righteous and unrighteous, will take place (Dan. 12: 2; John -29; Acts 24: 15) and Jesus will judge all humanity, living and dead (2 Tim. 4: 1).

When the judgment occurs, Jesus will terminate time and usher in eternity (Matt. 25: 46; Rev. 11: 15-18; 2 Pet. 3:3-13; Rev. 19: 11-21; Rev. 20: 11-15; Rev. 21: 1-8).

Believers will live with God forever, in the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, on the new earth (Rev. 21:1-4) and unbelievers will be tormented forever with Satan and his angels in the fiery lake of burning sulfur (Rev. 21:8; Rev. 20: 10; Matt. 25: 41).

                       SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

Amillennialism is the only acceptable eschatological theory because it is faithful to the Scriptures. It is supported by the teachings of the prophets, the apostles and our LORD JESUS CHRIST, himself.

Postmillennialism is one of the four eschatological theories.

Is Postmillennialism faithful to the Scriptures?

                                            DISCUSSION

Postmillennialism is one of the four theories concerning the Second Coming of Jesus, the judgment and eternity. Not too many people place their confidence in this theory.

Postmillennialism was formulated in the seventeenth century A.D. This theory teaches one Second Coming, one resurrection of all the dead, righteous and unrighteous, and one day of judgment for all humanity. So far, this theory is supported by Scripture.

But Postmillennialism also teaches the Christianization of the world and a thousand years of peace and righteousness before the Second Coming.

According to the Scriptures there will be no peace and righteousness before the end of the age (Matt. 24: 6-9; Rev. 13: 7-10) and the world will not be Christianized.  Jesus taught that many will turn away from the faith (Matt. 24: 10).

    SCRIPTURAL CONCLUSION

The preceding Scriptures show that Postmillennialism is not a Biblical doctrine.
