My Desire Psalm 38:9 June 2
9 Lord, all my desire is before You; And my sighing is not hidden from You.
David is experiencing some difficult days in his life. Listen to his cry to God; "1 O LORD, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure. 2For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore. 3There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin. 4For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me. 5My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness. 6I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long. 7For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh. 8I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart."
He goes on, "11My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore; and my kinsmen stand afar off. 12They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long."
Sometimes it is as if things can get so bad that we don't know which way to turn. David found himself in one of those times. He knew that his own sin had caused him most of the problems that he was facing and he knew that God held the answer; the only answer! His friends had even stepped back and there was nothing that they could do for him.
Not only did David's friends not listen to him, it was as if God was not hearing him either; listen to what he says, "14Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no response." It was as if God did not hear him because he had nothing to say!
David found relief; it is called repentance. Listen to his prayer, "17For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me. 18For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin." When we come to the place in our relationship with the Lord where our sin causes us to alter and we give that sin to God and ask Him to forgive us, the Bible promises us that He is faithful and just to forgive our sin and He casts it into the sea of forgetfulness, never to remember it any more.
When we take our desires to the Lord and leave them with Him, He will answer our prayers. We may not think He hears us; it may not seem like our prayers got above the ceiling; they do. We have to get serious with God and God takes our sin seriously. It is not until that we begin to take our sin seriously that we can have a relationship with God that allows Him to do for us, as He so much wants to do. David said, "All my desire is before You." The more he prayed, the more he realized "all my desire" also had to include his sin and God's forgiveness.
In chapter 40, God delivered David and blessed his heart! 2He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. 3And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD. 4Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust,
