Sticking with Luke and other comments

I don't know when people write their blogs, but when I sign in, I am always the only one.  I suppose some write elsewhere and then paste in?  Don't know.  I'm new to all this.

Studying Acts 9 tomorrow in Bible study.  Saul's conversion. The lesson material "to avoid confusion" is calling him Paul through the whole quarter of study.  <sigh>  My opinion: The Bible tells us he was called Saul, and then Paul.  It didn't give us both names just for fun.  There was a purpose.  So I'm calling him Saul until Luke starts calling him Paul.  Does the lesson writer think he's more right than Luke, I wonder.

I have started knitting another pair of socks (pink and grey) and I'm also working on a lace scarf (tumbling blocks pattern).  It's an interesting little side note that the tumbling blocks pattern is how I came to stumble onto this blog site.  I was doing a search to see of the pattern was on-line.  Just curious to see if it was exclusive to the pattern I bought, or could be found elsewhere.  I found several "tumbling blocks" patterns but none were lace work.  But one of the google searches lead me to a blog here.  Just never know what will lead where.

    VBS and Nashville

I have survived another year's Vacation Bible School.  This year was easier than past years, because I was working with the drama team rather than having a class of my own.  We did 2 dramas a day (repeat performance, actually) and the rest of the time we were "window dressing" for the Jerusalem Marketplace.

Saturday, one of my writer's groups went to Nashville, IN to have a picture made for the cover of our next anthology.  That was a fun day, with good food, good company and lots of window shopping.  I also got to take a ride in a (hope I get this right) Sunshine Tiger.  It's a small, sporty British convertable, and was, appropriately, YELLOW.  Great fun.

My nephew's sweater is done except for setting it together and doing the neck ribbing.  Just in time, too, as he is a "firecracker" born on the Fourth of July.

    Wooden Puzzles and God

On the way home from writer's group, I was listening to talk radio. We really need to be praying for our country, our courts, our government and the news media. Things are going very wrong and the only way we can get this country back to what the founders intended is to return to God. Why do we think government can fix everything? That isn't government's job.

My dad used to make 3-dimentional wooden puzzles. Every piece was different and had to be put in its correct place. The last piece held the whole thing together and if you pushed/pulled that piece out without holding everything else together very carefully (an almost impossible task), the puzzle would fall apart. God is like the piece that holds everything together, but unlike the puzzle, there is no other hand out there holding things when we push Him out. Things may hang together for a bit, but then, something shifts and all is lost. But there is a Master Puzzlemaker who knows every notch of all the pieces and just where each one goes. Only He can put it all together again and provide that last piece that will keep it together.  Yes, I know I have now compared God with the creator of the puzzle and a piece of the puzzle, but I think He's big enough for both jobs.

    Wednesday typical

The usual Wednesday - Curves, grocery, prayer meeting tonight. The only variation was getting my hair cut - finally. I put it off and put it off until I can't stand it any longer.  (Guess that could be a sort of pun, but it was unintentional, I assure you.  I'm not clever enought to come up with puns intentionally.)

Prayer meeting: So often, they are devoted to praying for the sick.  We do that, but we also pray for those who are lost that we know.  In fact, that list is longer than the list of sick, and the prayers are longer, too.  I am so glad to be a part of a group of believers who pray regularly for lost people.

The rest of my day (or most of it) was spent knitting.  I'm working on a sweater for a nephew.  I have made the pattern myself, with a lot of help from the Vogue knitting book - the first one.  I'm knitting in the round as much as possible.  I decided to to that to cut down on the purl stitches.  The stitch pattern is a combination of two -  lines of purl stitches on stockinette background.  I combined a right diagonal line with a left diagonal so that I have a zig-zag.  It keeps me interested because I have to keep track of when to purl and I can see my progress since I have to switch directions every so many rows.  So much less boring than plain stockinette!  I wonder how many other knitters there are out there who know what I'm talking about.

Well, back to the needles and Robin Hood (I found 3 dvds of old black and white episodes at Walmart for $5 and have been really enjoying them.)

    First blog

Here I am, doing what I said I wouldn't. It's not the first time I have had to eat my words. I said I would not blog. Now the problem will be to figure out what to say! I will have to think about that. Since it took me several minutes to even figure out how to get to this point, it may be a while before there is anything worth reading here. Consider yourself warned.
