How can we maintain that unity?

          - I want to do more than diagnose the problem, I want to talk about what we can do to make sure it doesn’t happen to us.

          - I got to thinking about the unity that the early church enjoyed and how we can have that.

          - There is a Greek word - “homothumadon” - that pretty much only shows up in the book of Acts (11 of 12 NT uses). It means “with one mind, unanimous, in one accord.” I want to briefly look at what the early church was doing that kept their unity. (We’re just going to handle it briefly; I may come back and unpack this some other time.)

Maintaining The Unity Of The Church:

          1. Acts 1:14 - It all starts with PRAYER.

          2. Acts 2:46 - Stay focused on the PURPOSES.

          3. Acts 4:24 - Be quick to lift up PRAISE.

          4. Acts 5:12 - Be channels of God’s POWER.

          5. Acts 8:4-6 - Boldly PREACH the Word.

          6. Acts 15:25 - Maintain biblical PEACE.

          7. Acts 19:29 (and 7:57 and 18:12) - Don’t be surprised by PERSECUTION. ...

Thoughts to Ponder for the Day

When we become born again, follower of Jesus Christ, God gives us a new mission. Its called the Great Commission.
Jesus gives us this mission in Matthew 28, Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And I am with you always, to the end of the age.
Scripture in 2 Corinthians says, We are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making his appeal through us. You see, the Gospel good news has been placed in us. If: Our children, Our family members, The community, And the world are to be saved, We must take this mission seriously.
Paul explains his commitment to this mission in Acts 20, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me. What is that task Paul? The task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.
Jesus tells His disciples in Acts 1.8, You will be my witnesses. A witness is an individual who tells what they know. Isn’t it ironic the first person was a woman He told to go and tell. There’s only one qualification of being a witness — that we have knowledge to share. We don’t have to know a lot about the Bible and theology to be an effective witness. Paul says, every Christian is a witness, an ambassador. We call this the Great Commission. Jesus tells his disciples and us we must go everywhere and tell everybody. This is our mission regardless of our career. We are to use that career to tell others about Christ. A non-witnessing Christian is a contradiction of terms. Our mission is to tell other people about Jesus and how to become a member of God’s family.
John 3.16 tells us that, God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 2 Peter 3.9 says, The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with us, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. You see, God never made a person He didn’t love. Everybody matters to God: Rich, Poor, Black, White, Young , Old, Educated And uneducated, just common folk. As long as there’s one person who doesn’t know Christ, God wants that person, whoever they are, to come to know Him. Paul says, the love of Christ compels us.
If we have the cure for cancer and the rest of the world is dying and we keep it a secret, that’s a crime. If we have the gospel and know how to save men, women, boys and girls from hell and don’t share it, that’s a crime. Our mission is to share God’s love. Our motive is love for others.
In Mark 16.15-16 Jesus tells us, Go into all the world and preach the gospel — THE good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. Did you catch it... Into all the world? Our mission is to share this Good News in our world.

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace... For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord... There is now, there fore, no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. God says; I will forgive everything you’ve ever done wrong. I will give you a clear conscious. I will wipe out the past, give you a new start, a fresh approach. I will hold no sin against you. Does this sound like something people need today?
Jesus said, I have come so that you might have life and have it to the fullest. Note that Jesus didn’t say, I came that you might have. A religion, A ritual. Christianity is the best life God has to offer in this world.
The Good News is, Jesus sets us free. Forgiveness, Fulfillment, Freedom. That’s what everybody is spending their time trying to find. Look at the world, Read your newspaper, Watch the ten o’clock news. People are not happy, they need this good news of forgiveness, freedom and fulfillment. We need to be  busy with our mission in life.

Thoughts to Ponder for the Day 6-3 #1

There are times of certainty and times of uncertainty and these times are uncertain for many, that is in the natural eyes. When a leader of a country spends an hour telling his people that times are desperate you know you better have faith in something. God tells us that we will face trials but do not faint but to have faith and understand that these trials are for the refining of our faith. He tells us to be anxious for nothing, in 1 Peter 5:6-9 it says to humble ourselves and cast our anxiety on Him, then stand firm and in His due time He will lift us up. His due time? What is that, in America we want things on our due time, we want to live without challenge and without discomfort but that is not what is told in God's Word. What He does promise is that He will never leave us or forsake us, and that we have the power to overcome the challenges of this world. So how do we become over comers? In Romans 10:8 the Bible tells us, the word is near you, it is in your mouth and in your heart, that is the word of faith we are proclaiming. He tells us in Mark 11:22-24 to have faith in God, and don't doubt, then you can tell that mountain (issue) to be removed. So what does it take to have that kind of faith, believe He is near, believe He will never leave you, believe that in His due time (perfect time) you will be the victor. It's belief so simple yet so hard because this fallen world can be seen, but God tells us in His word that we walk by faith and not by sight, and He has not given us a spirit of fear but of love, power and a sound mind. So today take up the Spirit of God, keep his words on you lips and speak to those mountains and do not doubt, just try it and see if your don't feel God near. It's a challenge! Today Lord I reject all fear and anxiety in my life, casting all my cares upon your shoulders who can bear it. I will not be seized by fear of any circumstance as I have the Word on my lips that protects me. I will use my faith every hour today believing and speaking to any issues that come my way to get in line with the perfect will of God. I am the victor and not a victim and you have given me the power to be in command of any situation. Help me Lord as it is by your strength and not mine which I am thankful.
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let it be afraid. John 14:27
What comfort our Savior offers us in these words do not be afraid your Jesus loves you very much. You only need to go to Him pour out our hearts and seek His peace and comfort. Our world today is not always stable. But all we have to do is keep our eyes on our true Prince of Peace.
