    Homosexuality - Biblical or Un-Biblical?

In a recent article entitled "Homosexuality and the Bible, Dr. Albert Mohler Jr wrote, "In the end, the Church will either declare the truth of God’s Word, or find a way to run away from it. It really comes down to trust. Do we trust the Bible to tell us truthfully what God desires and commands about our sexuality? If so, we really do know where we stand, and we really do know what to say. If not, let’s just admit to the world that we really haven’t a clue." These are the concluding words in his article which stresses truth as found in God’s Word. It is an outstanding article which lays out the differing views espoused by church groups and non-church folk alike. The full article can be found at http://www.albertmoler.com.

His conclusion is clear. Homosexuality is a sin. Any thoughtful commentary about this subject from a Christian’s point of view must include and underscore the Biblical condemnation. The very fact that God created, in the beginning, the human race as male and female is enough for any thoughtful person to understand God’s intention. He even stresses that a man takes a woman into his life, and vise-versa, in order to begin their new relationship and home. The man is commanded to leave father and mother when this occurs.

The men of Sodom came to Lot’s house demanding his visitors, who were actually angels in human form, be brought out to them so they could have sex with them. The KJ says "that we may know them", the Amplified Bible "that we may know [be intimate with] them", the NAS "that we may have relations with them", the NIV and HCSB "that we can have sex with them". Anyone translating the words properly will come to the same conclusion.

The sin of Sodom wasn’t inhospitality, it was homosexuality. Lot was so hospitable that he offered his daughters to the men instead of the visitors. He was willing to bring shame upon his own family rather then subject visitors in his home to such indecency.

But the most revealing passage of scripture in the Bible is the one in Romans. Paul’s letter to the Roman Christians reveals the "sin gene" that causes a man to seek love from a man and for a woman to seek love from another woman. He wrote, "Claiming to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man, birds, four-footed animals, and reptiles" (1:22-23). In other words, mankind looked for another god, one of their own making.

That process of godless idolatry hardened hearts and "God delivered them over in the cravings of their hearts to sexual impurity, so that their bodies were degraded among themselves. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served something created instead of the Creator, who is blessed forever" (1:24-25).

"This is why God delivered them over to degrading passions. For even their females exchanged natural sexual intercourse for what is unnatural. The males in the same way also left natural sexual intercourse with females and were inflamed in their lust for one another" (1:26-27).

Adam was created in the image of God. From his side was taken a rib and Eve was formed as a helpmate along side Adam. Since Adam’s sin, the rest of this world’s population, including our present population, has been born in the fallen state of fallen Adam. He had no sin at creation, we come here with his fallen nature. And it is this fallen nature which drives people away from God to such lifestyles as homosexuality.

Love them? Yes. Treat them with hatred? No. Be truthful before them with the Biblical message which sets all sinners free? Yes!

Thus, the calm reasoning voice to the question of this or any other sin, committed by myself or any other person, is the Word of God which alone can set one free from God’s condemnation.
