How can we maintain that unity?

          - I want to do more than diagnose the problem, I want to talk about what we can do to make sure it doesn’t happen to us.

          - I got to thinking about the unity that the early church enjoyed and how we can have that.

          - There is a Greek word - “homothumadon” - that pretty much only shows up in the book of Acts (11 of 12 NT uses). It means “with one mind, unanimous, in one accord.” I want to briefly look at what the early church was doing that kept their unity. (We’re just going to handle it briefly; I may come back and unpack this some other time.)

Maintaining The Unity Of The Church:

          1. Acts 1:14 - It all starts with PRAYER.

          2. Acts 2:46 - Stay focused on the PURPOSES.

          3. Acts 4:24 - Be quick to lift up PRAISE.

          4. Acts 5:12 - Be channels of God’s POWER.

          5. Acts 8:4-6 - Boldly PREACH the Word.

          6. Acts 15:25 - Maintain biblical PEACE.

          7. Acts 19:29 (and 7:57 and 18:12) - Don’t be surprised by PERSECUTION. ...

    Abiding in Christ

                                                     Are you Abiding ?

If you abide in me, If you abide in me? I have been giving this a lot of thoughts. “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you.” John 15: 7  I did some research on the word abide I would like to share . In John 15:10 our obeying Christ and thus abiding in Him is compared to the Son's obeying the Father by virtue of His son ship, but the Son abided in the Father by obeying Him. We see, then, that just as Christ's abiding in the Father was the maintenance of personal fellowship with the Father, so our abiding in Christ is the maintenance of personal fellowship with Christ… Furthermore, a study of John 15:4-11 will show that abiding is the condition for fruit-bearing (vv.4-5), that abiding brings the confidence of answered prayer (v. 7), and that abiding is commanded of Christians (v. 9). (7)that Jesus gives in John 13: 34, 35   Two things must be true if His commandment is to abide in us  1 We must know it. This goes beyond mere head knowledge or cognitive input.   2 His words must influence us. God's words must affect our attitudes and decisions. Jesus' word abides in us to the extent that it changes our motives and calls for a response in us. This is what being a Spirit-filled Christian is all about. The Holy Spirit uses God's word to influence us by affecting our will.  If I abide in Him, and His words abide in me (my conversations with Him – treating our prayer time together as a conversation rather than a ritualistic list, I will have answered prayers.  I desire closeness with the Lord. Psalm  37: 4 “Delight yourself in the Lord; and He will give you the desires of your heart.” If you have been born again in baptism… When I delight myself in Him, while I’m abiding in Him, He gives me the desires my heart should have, then the desires of my heart are answered.     I’ve been asking my Father how I can abide even closer, what are His ways and His truths to prayer. Prayer    Lord, help me to find the truth I pray that I’ve will learn the things I need to know? The power of prayer is so great, I am nothing without you . Enrich my prayer through the Holy Spirit guidance so that I may be pleasing to you in all things. You are not merely reciting prayers, nor are you saying empty words.  When you are sensitive to the closeness, your soul is awakened. This divinely appointed state of being does not remove you from this world no, rather your entire being is made alive and aware of the world around you. You are loved by Jesus and in loving Him you can come boldly unto the throne of grace. Thank You, Lord for what you are teaching me through Your Words. Matthew 21:22  And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. 1 Thessalonians 5:17    Pray without ceasing.
