    digging deeper

I have had a couple friends tell me I should have went deeper with my last post, because I stopped where it all begins, so here goes. What followed after Eve’s unbelief was disobedience, and one might add to that, as soon as we question the authority of God’s word, the door is swung wide open to allow disobedience and sin to follow. The next step, Eve became the temptress. Do we not also become an influence for sin in others lives once we submit to the world’s influence. Adam then followed in what we could call a willful act of disobedience. All of a sudden both were conscious of their sin. They were ashamed and immediately felt separated from the love of God. Have you ever felt that? You can be assured God still loves you, yes He hates the sin, but that is not you. Next came self-righteous behavior and an attempt to cover their guilt with the fig leaves. This might be viewed as an attempt to justify themselves. Follow that with with selfishness and the loss of mutual love. It was someone else’s fault. Right on down to blaming God. These are typical reactions to sin and when we behave this way we are drawn farther and farther from the love of God. It seems almost, many dig themselves deeper into sin, never desiring to find a way out of the hole they dig for themselves, leading to the ultimate outcome, divine judgment. God hates sin. This we know, but God loves you and only through His grace can we find the strength to pull ourselves out from a life of sin, before we are buried in it.

    sin vs faith

Satan brought to us sin. Not through man seeking, but through a question. God created His creation with a word. Satan dropped man to the depths of sin with a mere question. Did God say? He then led the woman into disbelief; you will not surely die. Then he jumped on her desire for higher spirituality. Your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good from evil. I see a plan in Satan’s thinking here, because these are the same tactics that were used to tempt Christ. First hunger, then ambition followed by spiritual presumption. So if that was the plan to draw man into a life of sin, and that was the plan to draw Christ into sin perhaps that is still the plan today. Fortunately though just as sin came to man through unbelief, salvation comes to man through faith. You see through not believing the word of God we were pulled into a sinful life, but through faith, the flip side of unbelief we are saved.

3:16 For this is the way1 God loved the world: He gave his one and only2 Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish3 but have eternal life

    Fragrace of Christ

Walk through an herb field and the smells will simply melt into you. Filling your mind and body with a pleasant rush of exotic scents. So also does the scent of Christ affect others. We can take confidence in our faith, but not by anything we do. For we are completely inadequate and unequipped for any kind of work which would be pleasing to God, unless it comes from God. Others should be able to look at you and see your sufficiency, not of your own, but that of Christ.

Take a long hard look at yourself, until you realize that on your own you can do nothing, but by the saving grace of Jesus Christ we are competent and through him we are sufficient

    2 Corinthians 3:1-6

3:1 Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? We don't need letters of recommendation to you or from you as some other people do, do we?1 3:2 You yourselves are our letter,2 written on our hearts, known and read by everyone, 3:3 revealing3 that you are a letter of Christ, delivered by us,4 written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on stone tablets5 but on tablets of human hearts.

3:4 Now we have such confidence in God through Christ. 3:5 Not that we are adequate6 in ourselves to consider anything as if it were coming from ourselves, but our adequacy7 is from God, 3:6 who made us adequate8 to be servants of a new covenant9 not based on the letter but on the Spirit, for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

    2Corinthians 2:14,15

2:14 But thanks be to God who always leads us in triumphal procession1 in Christ2 and who makes known3 through us the fragrance that consists of the knowledge of him in every place. 2:15 For we are a sweet aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing-
