Just a simple place for me to put a scripture or two. My plan is to have one here a week or so. I was trying to do one a day, but think I need to go slower. Maybe I'll comment, maybe you will...

Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ. (1 Corinthians 11:1)

Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. (Acts 17:11)

Test everything. Hold on to the good. (1 Thessalonians 5:21)

Examine what I say, challenge me if I seem wrong, rebuke me if I am way off the mark...

    John 10:34

34Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your Law, 'I have said you are gods'?

Strange that I hadn't noticed that before...

    John 11:38

38Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance.

Now the Amplified Bible translates 'deeply moved' to 'sighing repeatedly and deeply disquieted', NLT has 'still angry'.  Hmm. It sounds like this may be watered down in some translations.  I wonder why?  What human spin is being put where?

    John 11:51

51He did not say this on his own, but as high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation,

Not all of them were beyond God using them.

    John 12:30

30Jesus said, "This voice was for your benefit, not mine.

Now and again, I wish for a voice like that to speak clearly to me...

    John 13:17

17Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

And the context of this passage will tell us what to do to be blessed...

Something I am led to believe someone must hear now...

58And Jesus told him, Foxes have lurking holes and the birds of the air have roosts and nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head. (Luke 9:58 AMP)

    May 9-18 <<sighs>>    (NIV, mostly...)

    John 6:21

21Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading.

Interesting.  Immediately.  Some deep meaning there, I am sure...

    John 6:29

29Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: [This is the only work God wants from you]  to believe in the one he has sent."

29Jesus replied, This is the work (service) that God asks of you: that you believe in the One Whom He has sent [that you cleave to, trust, rely on, and have faith in His Messenger].  (AMP)

That's It?  If Jesus said so, YES!!!

    John 6:63

63The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.

    Flesh is nothing.

    John 7:17

17If anyone chooses to do God's will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.

A different way to say "seek and you will find" I think...

    John 7:39

39By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. (Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.)

Ok.  I still scratch my head why this one should pop out at me so...

    John 8:16

16But if I do judge, my decisions are right, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent me.

And he will judge, but thankfully, that is later [yet to come]...

    John 8:31

31To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.

Ok.  Do as he says, which is how he does...

    John 8:51

51I tell you the truth, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death."

Just a little clarity for those of us who need it said again...

    John 9:3

3"Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.

Jesus answered many questions profoundly here, not just the one that was asked in this case...

    John 10:4

4When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.

Ten-four big buddy!  I hear you and am on your six, (where I keep getting distracted, but you keep talking, and I'll get back behind ya!)

Just my thoughts as I do a very simple reading, day by day...

My deepest apologies for those of you who have faithfully been looking to see what God has asked me (and maybe/probably you) to see...

    Go in His Peace,

    ;'{P

    A little overdue (again)

20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. (John 3:20 NIV)

31"The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all. (John 3:31 NIV)

14but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." (John 4:14 NIV)

50Jesus replied, "You may go. Your son will live."  The man took Jesus at his word and departed. (John 4:50 NIV)

17Jesus said to them, "My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working." (John 5:17 NIV)

30By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me. (John 5:30 NIV)

    John 1:14

14And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. (NAS)

14And the Word (Christ) became flesh (human, incarnate) and tabernacled (fixed His tent of flesh, lived awhile) among us; and we [actually] saw His glory (His honor, His majesty), such glory as an only begotten son receives from his father, full of grace (favor, loving-kindness) and truth. (AMP)

    John 1:42

42And he brought him to Jesus.
Jesus looked at him and said, "You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas" (which, when translated, is Peter). (NIV)

When Jesus saw him, He said, "You are Simon, son of John. You will be called Cephas" (which means "Rock"). (Holman Christian Standard Bible)

    Luke 23:23, 24:12, 45 (From Apr 27 to 29 Luke 23:12 - 24:53)

    Luke 23:23

23But they were insistent and urgent, demanding with loud cries that He should be crucified. And their voices prevailed (accomplished their purpose). (AMP)

23 But they were insistent, demanding with loud voices that He be crucified. And the voices of these men and of the chief priests prevailed. (NKJV)

    Luke 24:12

12Peter, however, got up and ran to the tomb. Bending over, he saw the strips of linen lying by themselves, and he went away, wondering to himself what had happened. (NIV)

    Luke 24:45

45Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, (NAS)

Patience! I'll get back to posting soon...

    In answer to Lois' Question:

18As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." 20At once they left their nets and followed him. (Matthew 4:18-20 NIV)

    ------------------------------------------

7Jesus replied, "You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand."

8"No," said Peter, "you shall never wash my feet."
Jesus answered, "Unless I wash you, you have no part with me."

9"Then, Lord," Simon Peter replied, "not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!"

10Jesus answered, "A person who has had a bath needs only to wash his feet; his whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you." (John 13:7-10 NIV)

I find it interesting.  No talk of baptisim for the disciples.  Jesus choosing the twelve after prayer.  Yes, Peter's confession of Jesus as the Christ, and that may be the point the make the definition, but it is not what I feel and understand.  When they dropped everything to follow Him.  That, to me seems to be the pivotal point.  Worth more thought, certainly...

    In Truth,

    Mel
