THANKS-giving All Year Long...
As Women's Ministry Director for our church ladies group, it was my responsibility to create a program each month. One month I had a brilliant idea! I went outside and broke off a bare
tree limb, stuck it in a jar that I had wrapped tin foil around, typed a sign saying, The "Thanks" Giving Gift Tree under which I put
little packages of potpourri I had made with brief prayers attached. Then, hanging from the branches I put "gifts of thanksgiving"
(Scripture verses about the fruit of the Spirit, which I had typed out, rolled into scrolls, and tied up with various colored yarn --
looked neat! Each lady got to pick their own "gift of thanks giving"
and a potpourri gift.)
The morning of the program a few days later, I
woke up at 7:00a.m. I wanted to be at the church at 10:30 to decorate before the program at 1:00p.m., when the Lord very plainly said, "Make gifts." I
hollered, "MAKE GIFTS? THERE ISN'T TIME!" Again He said, "Make
gifts." I stayed in bed thinking, "What gifts? There isn't
time! Lord, don't You know there isn't time! And I don't have a clue what to make!"
I was trying not to panic, when suddenly a little poem verse
came to me, "This gift isn't worth much, not a dime or a nickel.
It's only worth pennies, but might buy you a pickle!" I had no
idea what crazy thing the Lord was trying to tell me; when all of a
sudden two more silly rhymes came into my head. So, I jumped out of
bed, turned on my computer and started typing them so I
wouldn't forget them. Ten more verses came to me! AFTER I got them typed and printed out, I went around the house looking
for something to match each verse, and found something for every
one of them! (The "pickle" one was 21 pennies -- all that I had at
the time!) So, I wrapped those gifts in various colored tissued
paper I happened to have handy -- some were silly, like the
pennies, and some were nice, and some were cute. After our games when I handed out those "prizes", the ladies
laughed and loved them!
To think that I might have missed giving blessings as well as receiving them if I had not been obedient to the Lord's voice... He ALWAYS knows what He's doing...and He always knows what we CAN do!
"Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father", Colossians 3:17 (NASB).
