    As His Children

Many times you will hear people say that we have to be servants of God while others insist that we must be His sons and daughters.

In the Old Testament, before Christ died, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob were servants of God. Now in the New Testament, after Christ died, we became sons and daughters of God.

God adopted us. He made us His sons and daughters. If God is the King of kings, being His children would make us princes and princesses.

Most of us don’t live as princes and princesses. If a person walked in our homes, he would have no idea that we are royals. Not by our clothes, our hair or our demeanor. But we are nevertheless.

God saw us when we were tattered and torn, when we were dirty and messed up by sin. He realized the worth in us. He noticed the spark of royalty in us.

He cleaned us up. He saved us. He delivered us. He adopted us into His family. He gave us everything that pertains to life and godliness.

We have the same rights as His begotten child. He loves us the same as He does Jesus.

He outfits us with His love, His mercy and grace. He provides us with the Holy Spirit, with the Bible and all His promises.

Yet most of us are not using everything that is available to us as children of God. Instead we are huddled in the corner, rocking back and forth, wondering when God is going to do something in our lives.

No, we have the authority. Jesus gave it to us. We have the right to speak the Word to our mountains and expect them to change. The key is to believe.

Why should we sit in the corner when we have a right to sit at the table?  We must take our authority in Christ because we are children of the Most High God.

The Desire To Do God's Will

If any man desires to do His will (God's pleasure), he will know (have the needed illumination to recognize, and can tell for himself) whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking from Myself and of My own accord and on My own authority. - John 7:17 (AMP)

If we desire to do God’s will, we will have the needed illumination to recognize whether a teaching is from God or not.  I believe we need more Believers in the Earth today who will desire to do God’s will.  Then they will know the person they are listening to is speaking from God.  We have to stay close to God and do what He tells us to do.  It is only then that we will know God well enough to determine a right message from a wrong one.

    Not Of Our Own Doing

"For it is by free grace (God’s unmerited favor) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ’s salvation) through [your] faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [of your own doing, it came not through your own striving], but it is the gift of God" (Ephesians 2:8, AMP).

I know that I say this time after time.  I use this Scripture time and again.  But I don't think I can say this enough.

We are not saved of our own doing.  It did not come through our own striving.  Not only are we not saved of our own doing, but we aren't healed, prospered or blessed through our own efforts either.

Instead we have free grace.  We have God's unmerited favor.  We cannot do enough to earn our healing, our prosperity or our blessing.  We only receive them because Jesus died for us.

There’s A Whole Lot Of Shaking Going On

“Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe,” - Hebrews 12:28.

Everything in this world that can be shaken will be shaken.  Even institutions that you don't think can be shaken, like churches and ministries.  Only those things that are built on God, only those things that were built by the Lord, will stand.  Everything else will fall away.

We need to turn our focus back onto God and what He has done for us.  Only when we focus on God will we be able to survive being shaken.

    God Saves

"For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God" (1 Corinthians 1:18).

It is the power of God that saves us.  We do not save people on our own.  It is not our words.  It is not our strength.  It is not our creative ideas that save people.  It is the power of God flowing through us that saves others.  It is only the Holy Spirit who knows the hearts of men and can draw them to Himself.

    What Are You Good At?

"God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well." - Romans 12:6 (TLB).

All of us have certain things that we are good at.  For some, it's teaching or writing.  For others, it is skateboarding or playing baseball.  We are all good at something. The key is to figure out what those things are.  Then we can use them to further the Kingdom of God.  Not only in the church walls but outside them as well.

    Our Burden Bearer

Blessed be the Lord, Who bears our burdens and carries us day by day, even the God Who is our salvation! -  Psalm 68:19 (AMP).

The Lord who bears our burdens and carries us day by day.  Imagine that!  God wants to bear our burdens and carry us day by day.  He wants to be that involved in our lives.

The word for salvation here is the Greek transliterated word Y@shuw`ah (yesh-oo'-aw).  It means welfare, prosperity, deliverance, salvation (by God), victory.

This means that not only does God want to bear our burdens and carry us day by day, but He cares about our welfare.  He is there to deliver us and bring us through our problems victoriously.

    God Is Not Schizophrenic

I have a confession to make.  I yell at the television.  I mostly scream at television preachers who aren’t teaching the Word correctly. It angers me when preachers, which are being watched by the nations, teach the Gospel in a distorted way.  They make people believe they have to work for salvation, healing and miracles.  I’ve heard them essentially say to just send them money, and they will fulfill your destiny for you.

All the preachers say that they have a Word directly from God. Those “words” seem to contradict each other.

One minister says that God is telling us to be content living below our inheritance, which is clearly laid out in the Bible.  He advises us to be content living in poverty and sickness. Then another contradicts that by preaching that God wants to do exceedingly, abundantly above all we can ask or think.

Another preacher charges that we must go back to our Jewish roots and live under the law.  He insists God is commanding us to go back to the traditions of the Hebrew people. Yet another contradicts that by teaching that we are to live under grace and not under the law, to focus on what Jesus did for us rather than what we can do for ourselves.

Obviously some of these teachings are Biblically sound and others aren’t.

Imagine, though, for a moment, that you are an immature or a brand—new Believer. You are listening to all these preachers and becoming very confused.  It seems that God changes His mind like the wind changes direction. If God tells preachers different things, God must be schizophrenic, you reason. He must have a split personality disorder.

But He doesn’t.  God is still the same yesterday, today and forever. He changes not.

Then why did He smite people in the Old Testament and not in the New? God obviously changed His mind, you might say.

Grace is not just a New Testament concept. We see it prevalent in the Old Testament as well as the New.

Especially with the children of Israel. They disobeyed God and worshipped idols, then they suffered the consequences for their actions. They ended up in sickness and captivity.  God made a way of escape for them every time, but they refused to change their ways.

One prime example of grace is Joseph’s brothers. They sold Joseph into slavery and yet God still orchestrated the events of Joseph’s life to save theirs  and the lives of their families during a great famine that should have taken them out.

God is still merciful today toward those of us who are His children. He shows us grace and mercy especially when we don’t deserve it and haven’t earned it.

God is still the same. His Word is still the same.  Instead of adapting our message to the world, we should speak the Truth——the pure, unadulterated Word of God. We need to let the world adapt to the Word, not vice versa.

We are conforming to the world. We are teaching what my Dad used to call “soup,” which means we are teaching a watered—down, user—friendly version of the Bible.

No, we must teach God’s Word, God’s way. Otherwise the Word is not going to change the lives of others. It will make them feel good, but they will not change. We need to make life—time changes in the lives of people, not make them have warm fuzzy feelings.

Stick to the Truth of the Word, and leave the consequences to God.

What Has God Done For You?

And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. - Luke 17:16.

How many times do we thank God when He does something for us?  Many times we are like the other nine lepers who Jesus healed who rushed off, delighting in their newfound healing.  Instead we need to practice being like the one who did thank Jesus for his healing and became whole.  What has God done for you?  What do you need to thank Him for today?

    Have Mercy

Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. - Isaiah 55:7.

If we return to the Lord, He will have mercy on us.  He will abundantly pardon.  God loves us enough to forgive us completely and totally when we accept what Jesus did on the cross.  When people ask us to forgive them, do we hold a grudge?  Or do we, like our Lord, have mercy on them?

    No One Above Him

Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and served the LORD only. - 1 Samuel 7:4 (KJV).

They served the Lord only.  How many of us serve the Lord only?  Maybe it is the television that we worship?  Or sports games?  Or our spouse?  Or our cars?  Perhaps our careers.  Anything we put above God is an idol.  God is a jealous God.  He will not accept anything, or anyone, being above Him in our lives.

Can your car, your sports or your television shows save you?  Can they deliver you?  Can they sanctify you?  Did send their Son to die for you?  No.

Only the One who can do all these things should be the Ultimate  Person in our lives, and that is God Almighty.

    God's Faith In You

And Jesus answering saith to them, `Have faith of God; - Mark 11:22 (YLT).

This Scripture says that we should have faith. Bible scholars have gone back into the Greek and realized that Jesus wasn't saying to have faith in God.  Instead He was saying to have the faith of God.

Let me tell you a secret: every one of us who is Born-again has the faith of God within us.  Isn't that awesome?

We have been struggling to build up our own faith.  We are trying to transfer what is ours--healing, prosperity, a sound mind, etc.--into our physical world from the spiritual one.

No, we need to let God's faith flow through us to do the job.  We are just the vessel.  We are not the author or the finisher of our faith.  God is.

Now, let's all pray it together: "God, let Your faith flow through me in this situation!"

    Obtain A God Report

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.  For by it the elders obtained a good report. - Hebrews 11:1-2

What is the report that you have received recently?  Is it that you are ill?  Is it that you are broke?  Is it that your child is doing poorly in school?  All of these reports are enough to shake your faith.

However they are not the report of the Lord.  In fact, according to the Word, they are not even a good report.  They may be facts.  They may be crying in your face, "Look at me!  Look at me!"  But they are not the Truth.

God's Word is the Truth.  The only Truth.  And once we speak the Word over our situation, it will eventually change to the Truth of the Word of God.  When it does, we will have obtained the good report.

    The God Of The Impossible

"He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God" (Romans 4:20).

Abraham staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief.  Abraham believed God could do what God said.  He even tried to help God out by sleeping with his wife's maid to produce a child.  Not the right child, of course.

Even though what God promised us looks impossible, such as having as many descendants as stars in the sky, we have to remember that God is the God of the impossible.  He can do and will do what He said He would.  No matter how long it takes.

    God Is Faithful

For many years, God spoke the same command to me: “Cast your cares upon Me.”

I would try for awhile, but then I would just give up in frustration.

When God would speak that message to me again, I would become upset. I wanted a different message. Not the same one over and over again.

Throughout this whole process, God stood by me. He didn’t disown me. He didn’t say “Because you didn’t obey, I don’t want anything to do with you.”

No, God is faithful even when we are not.

Abraham had been promised a son, but after waiting for so long, Sarah, his wife, devised a plan to help God’s promise along. She told her husband to sleep with her maid to produce a child. He did. Only the son he produced wasn’t the child God promised him.

God, being faithful, when we are unfaithful didn’t take away His promise to Abraham. No, Abraham and Sarah did eventually produce the promised son, Isaac.

The children of Israel are a prime example of God being faithful when we are unfaithful.

When they were in the wilderness, they saw God provide them with manna every day except the Sabbath.  They saw how God parted the Red Sea and turned the bitter water into sweet.  However Moses still found them worshipping a golden calf, a false god.

Yet God continued to be faithful to the children of Israel, bringing Joshua, Caleb and the next generation of Israelites into the land He promised them.

Afterward, they rebelled against God many more times. God sent Samson, Esther and Gideon to save them from destruction. God was faithful when they were not faithful.

God is faithful to us too when we are not faithful to Him. That is His grace in action. We do not deserve it. We didn’t earn it, but we have it nevertheless.

No matter what we do, God will be faithful. The promises that He has given us will come to pass if we hold onto them and believe. God doesn’t take them back when we mess up.

No, they will come to pass. They might be delayed, like Abraham and Sarah’s son. But delay does not mean denial. Hallelujah! Our God is always faithful...especially when we are not.

    Seek Knowledge

The mind of the prudent is ever getting knowledge, and the ear of the wise is ever seeking (inquiring for and craving) knowledge.  -  Proverbs 18:15 (AMP).

People who are prudent are forever trying to get more information, more knowledge.  They devour the Word of God.  Always reading it, studying it, reading books about the Bible and spiritual things.

The wise are those who are always listening for anyone who is speaking wisdom. They fill their spirits with wise, Biblical teaching.  They surround themselves with those people who they deem to be wise.

If we want to be wise or prudent, we must seek the knowledge of the Word of God.  We need to read it daily.  Study it.  Devour it until it comes out in our speech, our actions and our thoughts.

    Love Through Action

Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. - 1 John 3:18

My grandmother used to say all the time, "I love you."  Only every time she would do anything for me, she would make sure every one knew that she was the one who did it for me.  Her actions didn't say that she loved me.

Yes, we need to speak words of love to people.  However, more importantly, we must show our love through our actions.  What can you do to help others?  To bless them?  To make their lives better?  To make a difference in their lives?

    Charisma

Do not neglect the gift of God within you… - I Timothy 4:14.

The word gift here is the Greek transliterated word charisma.  One of its meanings is "grace or gifts denoting extraordinary powers, distinguishing certain Christians and enabling them to serve the church of Christ, the reception of which is due to the power of divine grace operating on their souls by the Holy Spirit."

We should not neglect the grace that God has deposited in us as Born-again Believers.  The grace that allows the Holy Spirit that dwells inside of us to do extraordinary things through us that we could never have done on our own.

It is only through the grace of God that we can do anything in life.  Without God, we are nothing, but through Him, we can do everything that He has called us to do.

    Lifeline

For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.  For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. — 1 Corinthians 1:17-18.

We are to spread the Gospel.  We need not be worried about how we speak or what words to say.  When God leads us to speak to someone about the Gospel, our only obligation is to talk to them about what Jesus did on the Cross.  The power of what Jesus did on the cross is a lifeline to those who are not saved.

    Who Is Leading You?

For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God. - Romans 8:14

We are the sons and daughters of God.  Then we should be led by the Spirit of God and not our feelings.  Not the devil.  Not the news.  Not by our friends.  We need to be led by the Spirit of God.  We need to be in constant contact with the Spirit of God.  We must be listening to that still, small voice in our spirits.  If we don't, we will be led on a path opposite from the one God has for us.

    Don't Buy Trouble

Each day has enough trouble of its own - Matthew 6:34.

I don't know if you are anything like me, but I am addicted to worry.  I have worried about what will happen tomorrow, next week, even five years from now.  I have literally worried myself until I had a migraine and an upset stomach.  Of course, eighty percent of whatever I worried about never came to pass.  The twenty percent wasn't usually as bad as I imagined either.

God and I have been working on this issue of worrying...a lot.  And I will tell you what He tells me: Trust Him to do what He said He would in His Word.  Give your cares to Him because He can handle them and He wants to make things turn out right in your life.  Hold on.  Good things are coming because your best years are ahead of you.  And, of course, be patient because God is in control.

    Jesus Died, But...

I used to listen to a woman minister on late-night television who took over her husband's ministry after he died.  She and I don't always see eye-to-eye on key points of the Bible.  Although her foundational doctrine is sound.

One day she addressed the congregation and said that we don't say, "The troops defend our country, but..."

Yet most Believers in Christian circles say, she added, "Jesus died, but..."

    We say:

But you still have to work for salvation.

But He didn't die for all your sins.

But He didn't die for all your sicknesses.

But He sometimes heals and sometimes doesn't.

But He is unpredictable.  You never know what God will do.

But He can't save a murder, liar, thief.

We always have some kind of reason why Jesus' death on the Cross wasn't enough.

But the truth is that Jesus' death on the Cross was complete.

He died for all our sins--past, present and future (II Corinthians 5:21).

He died for all our sicknesses--past, present and future (I Peter 2:24).

He redeemed us from the curses that came upon us because of Adam and Eve's sin (Galatians 3:13).

His death was complete.  There is nothing in our lives that Jesus' death didn't cover.

I've seen well-meaning television preachers insisting that you must give an atonement offering every year.

Why?  Is that atonement offering going to save you?  Heal you?  Protect you?  Prosper you?  Is that atonement offering able to forgive your sins?  No!

Only Jesus can do those things.  Only Jesus was the Ultimate Offering for us.

Another offering is not necessary and is probably insulting to God.  It is like saying, "I know You died, Jesus, but really, what You did isn't enough for me.  I'd rather do it myself."

It's when we have this attitude that we lose sight of what Jesus did for us.  The awesomeness of it.

It's not about you.  What you can do.  What you can say.  What you have to do to win God's favor.

Everything is about what Jesus did for you.  Get your eyes off how to score points with God and focus on what Jesus did.

When the children of Israel became sick, God told Moses to erect a brass serpent. As they looked at it, healing came to them.  When they didn't, they remained sick.

Look to our brass serpent, the Lord Jesus Christ.  As long as you keep your eyes focused on Him, you will be healed.  Remove your eyes from Him and stay in your sickness, your poverty, your sins, your mess.  The choice is yours.

    The Truth

Anyone who speaks against the Son of Man can be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven, either in this world or in the world to come.  - Matthew 12:32 (NLT).

This Scripture haunted me for a long time.  I had been taught that certain things, such as singing secular music when you are a Believer, is blaspheming the Holy Spirit.  The more I attended church, the longer the list became.

The devil would point to a certain situation and tell me, "See you have blasphemed the Holy Spirit.  You can never be forgiven.  You are doomed."  Of course, I didn't realize it was the devil at the time.

A preacher came on television in the middle of one of these episodes and said, "If you think you have blasphemed the Holy Spirit, you haven't.  People who blasphemed the Holy Spirit are those who are hard-hearted and would never repent in the first place."

That set me free right then and there.  This is why when you know the truth of the Word of God, it will make you free.

    Things Will Change

"Four leprous men...said to one another, 'Why do we sit here until we die?...Let us go over to the camp of the Arameans. If they spare us, we will live; and if they kill us, we will but die.'" - - 2 Kings 7:3-4 (NASB).

Why do we sit here until we die?  That is a good question.  Many of us are still stuck in the same situation we were five years ago, ten years ago.  We struggle with the same addictions, the same bad habits, the same problems.  Yet we sit in the mess, wringing our hands, hoping, wishing, praying, that it will change.  Maybe the devil has even told us that things will never change, that we will never change.  Don't listen to that lie!

Believe that God will do what He said in His Word.  Speak the promises over the situation.  Do it until they change.  And no matter how it may appear, remember when the Word is applied to a situation, it must eventually change...for the good.

    Faith Produces

So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless. - James 2:17 (NLT).

If faith doesn't produce good deeds, it is dead.  Faith produces the good deeds.  Most people believe we have to do the good deeds, but they are produced by our faith.  Because we have faith in the promises of God, something begins to happen.  We become persuaded that we already have the promise.  We speak as if it is so.  We expect the promise to come to pass.  We make room for it.  We get rid of the old things in our lives to make room for the promise.  Our faith has produced good deeds.

    In God Alone

But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. - James 1:6 (NLT).

Be sure that your faith is in God alone.  Right now, I am believing God for a piece of equipment.  However, I have a back-up plan in case God doesn't come through.  This is the definition of a double-minded person.  We have to keep our focus on God and keep our faith in Him alone if we ever expect Him to give us wisdom in our situation.

    Out Of Love

I am your servant; deal with me in unfailing love, and teach me your decrees. - Psalm 119:124 (NLT).

God deals with us out of His unfailing love.  He doesn't correct us or teach us His ways out of anger.  He doesn't hit us over the head with lightning if we don't do or say thing right thing.  He doesn't smite us if we fail a test.  No, He loves us, and it is through believing in His love for us that we learn to love Him, obey Him and worship Him.

    Strong Confidence

Don't put your confidence in powerful people; there is no help for you there - Psalm 146:3 (NLT).

People come and go.  People live.  People die.  If you put your confidence in people of power, you confidence will be shattered.  When you find out they have faults, when they do or say the wrong thing, your confidence in them will be broken.  If you put your trust in God, your confidence will never be shattered.  Unlike men, He will never fail you.  Even though some times it seems He has.  He will never change.  You can count on Him and His Word to come through for you every time.  If you only believe.

    Face The Wall

Martin Luther walked into the hospital room of a man who was at the brink of death. Martin Luther turned his face from the man and walked over to the window and looked out.

He quoted all the Scriptures he could think of. Then he prayed boldly that God must hear him and answer him now if God ever wanted him to trust God again.

What do you think happened? God healed the man at the brink of death.

When Isaiah informed Hezekiah to put his house in order because God said Hezekiah would die. Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and reminded God that his heart was perfect toward him.

Before Isaiah even left the palace courtyard, God told Isaiah to go back to tell Hezekiah that God had heard his prayer and seen his tears and had granted fifteen more years to his life (Isaiah 38).

There are things that both Martin Luther and Hezekiah did that we should learn to do when we are in crisis.

    What are they?

They turned their face away from the situation, so that all they could see was God. They had to get away from the apparent darkness and put their eyes on God.

They were alone with God in their thoughts. They reminded Him of what He had promised before they made their bold request. They had confidence that God would come through for them...and He did.

When we turn our face away from the situation, we aren’t looking at what is wrong any more. Instead we are focused on God.

If we put Him in remembrance of His Word, we are focusing on how big our God is in comparison to our seemly impossible situation.

Then as we speak the promises that God has given us, we fill ourselves up on the Word. When we do this, we are able to make a bold request of God and expect Him to answer.

We are to come boldly before His throne of grace to find grace and mercy in our time of need (Hebrews 4:16).

We don’t deserve it. We can’t earn it. God loves us enough to give us this right as a child of God. Expect a miracle today. Expect Him to come through for you.

    Go To The Next Level

You see and understand what is right but refuse to act on it. You hear, but you don't really listen." - Isaiah 42:20 (NLT).

Do you recognize what is right and don't do it?  Do you hear with your ears?  Yet you are not really listening?  The problem is that many of us hear the voice of God, but we do not do what He tells us to do.  Then we wonder why God won’t move on from one particular message.  He keeps telling us the same thing.  As Kenneth Hagin would say, "When you get this, then we will move on."  And that's the same thing God is saying to us.  He cannot move us onto the next level until we understand this one.
