BIBLE STUDY - KNOW YOUR BIBLE
WHAT MUST A PERSON DO TO BECOME A CITIZEN OF THE NEW JERUSALEM? What must one do to become a citizen of the new Jerusalem ? What happens to an individual when he/she becomes a citizen? What are the responsibilities of citizenship? Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). (Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins (Matt. 1:20-21).
TO BECOME A CITIZEN OF THE NEW JERUSALEM WE MUST BE BORN AGAIN The following phrases are synonymous with the term to be born again: to receive Jesus, to believe in the name of Jesus, believe in the Lord Jesus, confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead and to believe that Jesus is the Christ.
The apostle John penned these words: Yet to all who received him (JESUS - italic mine), to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God – children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision, or a husband’s will, but born of God (John 1:12-13).
Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved … (Acts 16:31).
That if you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved (Rom. 10:9).
Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well (1 John 5:1).
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).
Jesus said to Nicodemus : I tell you the truth, unless a man is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God (John 3:3). Jesus answered : I tell you the truth, unless a man is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit (John 3: 5-6
RESPONSIBILITIES OF CITIZENSHIP
We are called to love the Lord, our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. In order to do this we must manifest the fruit of the Spirit in our lives (Gal. 5: 22-23). Before the new Jerusalem comes down from heaven, when a believer dies his spirit goes to heaven (Phil. 1: 21-24). The apostle Paul wrote: But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him, to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body (Phil. 3:20-21). When God creates a new heaven and a new earth, believers will take up residence in the new Jerusalem ( Rev. 21: 1-4).
