GOD INFORMED MOSES THAT THE ISRAELITES WOULD GO INTO CAPTIVITY. WHAT WAS GOD'S PROMISE? God is omniscient. Before the Israelites went into the land of Canaan, God informed Moses that the people will be unfaithful and will be taken captives by foreigners. Moses wrote, The Lord will scatter you among the peoples, and only a few of you will survive among the nations to which the Lord will drive you. There you will worship man-made gods of wood and stone, which cannot see or hear or eat or smell. But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul. When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the Lord your God and obey him. For the Lord your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your forefathers, which he confirmed to them by oath (Deut. 4: 27-31). We know from the Bible that the Israelites were taken into Assyrian captivity and later into Babylonian captivity. As God had promised, he allowed a remnant to return to the land of Canaan when they sought him (Ezra, chapter 2). God has a plan for your life. Surrender your life to him and trust him fully. God will accomplish his plan for your life. If you are not a born again believer, receive Jesus and become a child of God (John 1: 12). Give of your best to the Master, Give Him first place in your heart; Give Him first place in your service, Consecrate every part. —Grose After you have read this post, please view my videos on GOD TUBE and YOU TUBE. HOW WAS JOSHUA SELECTED TO LEAD THE ISRAELITES INTO THE PROMISED LAND? God gave Moses the privilege of looking at the promised land from a mountain in the Abarim Range. God informed Moses that after he had seen the land he would die. After you have seen it, you too will be gathered to your people, as your brother Aaron was, for when the community rebelled at the waters in the Desert of Zin, both of you disobeyed my command to honor me as holy before their eyes (Num. 27: 13-14). Moses asked God to appoint a leader to take the Israelite community into the promised land. God said to Moses, Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit, and lay your hand on him. Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and the entire assembly and commission him in their presence. Give him some of your authority so the whole Israelite community will obey him. … At his command he and the entire community of the Israelites will go out, and at his command they will come in (Num. 27: 18-21). Moses did as the LORD commanded him. Joshua was a faithful servant of God. He was one of the twelve leaders who had gone out to gather information about the land of Canaan. Both Joshua and Caleb gave a positive report. God has a plan for your life. Surrender your life to him and trust him fully. God will accomplish his plan for your life. If you are not a born again believer, receive Jesus and become a child of God (John 1: 12). WAS GOD’S COVENANT WITH THE ISRAELITES UNCONDITIONAL AS TAUGHT BY MANY SCHOLARS AND BIBLE TEACHERS? We read in the Book of Deuteronomy, The Lord did not set his affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. But it was because the Lord loved you and kept the oath he swore to your forefathers that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands (Deut. 7: 7-9). God's covenant with the Israelites was conditional. It called for their love and their obedience. God has a plan for your life. Surrender your life to him and trust him fully. God will accomplish his plan for your life. If you are not a born again believer, receive Jesus and become a child of God (John 1: 12). May all I am and do and say Give glory to my Lord always, And may no act of mine cause shame Nor bring reproach upon His name. -Anon After you have read this post, please view my videos on GOD TUBE and YOU TUBE. WHO WERE THE MIDIANITES AND WHY DID GOD COMMAND MOSES TO TAKE VENGEANCE ON THEM? Midian was a son of Abraham by Keturah (Gen. 25: 1-6). His descendants were nomads and they had great in the time of Moses. God said to Moses, ‘Take vengeance on the Midianites for the Israelites. After that, you will be gathered to your people’ (Num. 31: 1). The Israelites armed themselves for war, They fought against Midian, as the Lord commanded Moses, and killed every man. … They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword. The Israelites captured the Midianite women and children and took all the Midianite herds, flocks and goods as plunder. They burned all the towns where the Midianites had settled, as well as all their camps. … Moses was angry with the officers of the army—the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds—who returned from the battle. Have you allowed all the women to live? He asked them. They were the ones who followed Balaam’s advice and were the means of turning the Israelites away from the Lord in what happened at Peor, so that a plague struck the Lord’s people. Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man (Num. 31: 7-18). God has a plan for your life. Surrender your life to him and trust him fully. God will accomplish his plan for your life. If you are not a born again believer, receive Jesus and become a child of God (John 1: 12). WHAT HAPPENED WHEN MIRIAM AND AARON OPPOSED MOSES? Miriam and Aaron talked against Moses because of his Cushite wife. (The Cushite people were the descendants of Cush, the oldest son of Ham. Ham was one of the three sons of Noah – Genesis 10: 6-8). They claimed that God had not only spoken through Moses but also through them. This displeased God and He instructed Moses, Aaron and Miriam to come out to the Tent of Meeting. When they did, God came down in a pillar of cloud and stood at the entrance to the tent. He called out Aaron and Miriam. When they came out God addressed them, Listen to my words: ‘When a prophet of the Lord is among you, I reveal myself to him in visions, I speak to him in dreams. But this is not true of my servant Moses; he is faithful in all my house. With him I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles; he sees the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses’ (Num. 12: 6-8)? The Lord was angry with Aaron and Miriam. When the cloud lifted from above the Tent of Meeting, it was observed that Miriam was struck with leprosy (Num. 12: 9-10). God has a plan for your life. Surrender your life to him and trust him fully. God will accomplish his plan for your life. If you are not a born again believer, receive Jesus and become a child of God (John 1: 12). ON MOUNT SINAI, WHAT WAS THE COVENANT THAT GOD MADE WITH THE ISRAELITES THROUGH MOSES? After leaving Egypt, the Israelites traveled for three months and reached Rephidim. As they set out from Rephidim they entered the Desert of Sinai and camped in the desert in front of Mount Sinai. Then Moses went up to God and God spoke to him from the mountain. ‘This is what you are to say to the house of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel: You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites (Exod. 19: 3-6). Moses went to the elders and the people and shared with them the words that God had spoken. The people all responded together, ‘We will do everything the Lord has said.’ Moses took their response to God (Exod. 19: 8). The Lord said to Moses, ‘I am going to come to you in a dense cloud, so that the people will hear me speaking with you and will always put their trust in you.’ Moses told the Lord what the people said. The Lord said to Moses, ‘Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow. Have them wash their clothes and be ready by the third day, because on that day the Lord will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people' (Exod. 19: 10-11). The Lord instructed Moses to caution the people not to go up the mountain or touch the foot of it. ‘Whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death' (Exod. 19: 12). They were permitted to go up the mountain when the ram’s horn sounded a long blast. A covenant may be unconditional or conditional. This covenant was conditional. For it to be effective, the Israelites had to obey God fully and keep the covenant. As believers, God has called us to a life of obedience and trust (Prov. 3: 5-6). Shall not He who led me safely Through the footsteps of this day Lead with equal understanding All along my future way? -Adams After you have read this post, please view my videos on GOD TUBE and YOU TUBE. WHY WERE THE ISRAELITES IN THE DESERT FOR FORTY YEARS? After you have read this post, please view my videos on GOD TUBE and YOU TUBE. They are very short and to the point. They will be a blessing to you. Please click on the links below www.godtube.com/mahabirjem www.youtube.com/777JEM333 God used the time that the Israelites spent in the desert to humble them and test them to determine what was in their hearts, whether or not they would keep his commands. God humbled them causing them to hunger and then He fed them with manna. God showed them his power by preserving their clothes and protecting their feet. Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years (Deut. 8: 4). God disciplined them so that they would observe his commands, walk in his ways and reverence Him. God was taking them to a rich environment. For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land—a land with streams and pools of water, with springs flowing in the valleys and hills; a land with wheat and barley, vines and fig trees, pomegranates, olive oil and honey; a land where bread will not be scarce and you will lack nothing; a land where the rocks are iron and you can dig copper out of the hills (Deut. 8: 7-9). Wait and, in waiting, listen for His leading; Be strong, thy strength for every day is stored. Go forth in faith, and let thine heart take courage; There is no disappointment with the Lord. —Anon God has a plan for your life. Surrender your life to him and trust him fully. WHY DID THE TRIBES OF REUBEN, GAD AND THE HALF-TRIBE OF MANASSEH SETTLE ACROSS THE JORDAN? After you have read this post, please view my videos on GOD TUBE and YOU TUBE. They are very short and to the point. They will be a blessing to you. Please click on the links below www.godtube.com/mahabirjem www.youtube.com/777JEM333 The tribes of Reuben and Gad owned very large herds and flocks. As they neared the promised land, they saw that the lands of Jazer and Gilead were suitable for livestock. They went to Moses and Eleazar the priest as well as to the leaders of the community and said that the land east of the Jordan was suitable for livestock. They requested that the land be given to them. They said, If we have found favor in your eyes, let this land be given to your servants as our possession. Do not make us cross the Jordan (Num. 32: 5). Moses agreed on the condition that their fighting men would cross the Jordan and drive out the inhabitants who possessed the land so that the remaining tribes will receive their inheritance. Moses said, If you will do this—if you will arm yourselves before the Lord for battle, and if all of you will go armed over the Jordan before the Lord until he has driven his enemies out before him—then when the land is subdued before the Lord, you may return and be free from your obligation to the Lord and to Israel. And this land will be your possession before the Lord. But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the Lord; and you may be sure that your sin will find you out. Build cities for your women and children, and pens for your flocks, but do what you have promised (Num. 32: 20-24). Moses gave the Gadites, the Reubenites and the half-tribe of Manasseh son of Joseph the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan—the whole land with its cities and the territory around them. The land was given on the condition that they fulfilled their promise. History informs us that they fulfilled their promise and possessed the land. Wait and, in waiting, listen for His leading; Be strong, thy strength for every day is stored. Certain conditions had to be met for them to receive God’s blessings. Curses were also reserved for them. If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come upon you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God: (Deut. 28: 1-2) (please read Deut. 28: 3-14). Please click on the links below www.godtube.com/mahabirjem www.youtube.com/777JEM333 Balaam was a diviner who was employed by king Balak to curse Israel, but God caused him to bless instead (Num. 22-24). He tried to turn the Israelites from God (Num. 31). He was finally killed by the Israelites. Balamm said to God, 'Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, sent me this message: A people that has come out of Egypt covers the face of the land. Now come and put a curse on them for me. Perhaps then I will be able to fight them and drive them away' (Num. 22: 11). God instructed Balaam not to put a curse on them because they are blessed. But Balak sent messengers to Balaam stating that he will reward him handsomely. Balaam said that regardless of the reward he could not disobey God. Balaam asked them to stay with him for the night so see if he would get more information from God. God gave Balaam permission to go with the messengers. Balaam went with the messengers riding on his donkey. The angel of the Lord intervened and after a series of events caused the donkey to lay down. Balaam was angry and beat the donkey with his staff. Then the Lord opened the donkey’s mouth, and she said to Balaam, ‘What have I done to you to make you beat me these three times’ (Num. 22: 28). Please click on the links below www.godtube.com/mahabirjem www.youtube.com/777JEM333 We recall that Moab was the grandson of Lot by incest with his elder daughter (Gen. 19: 30-38). As the Israelites were on their way to the promised land, they camped in Shittim. The men indulged in sexual immorality with the Moabite women, who invited them to the sacrifices to their gods. The men ate the food that was provided and they bowed down before these gods. As a result, the Israelites joined in worshiping the Baal of Peor. The Lord was extremely angry with Israel. God said to Moses, Take all the leaders of these people, kill them and expose them in broad daylight before the Lord, so that the Lord’s fierce anger may turn away from Israel (Num. 25: 4). Moses said to Israel's judges, Each of you must put to death those of your men who have joined in worshiping the Baal of Peor (Num. 25: 5).
