    Devotion Mark 1:17 Study 1 Peter 2:9-10

    Mark 1:17

KJV(i)17 And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
KJ2000(i)17 And Jesus said unto them, Come fter me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
    My thoughts.
These were men fishing for fish but they would soon catch men for the Lord by sharing the gospel.

    1 Peter 2:9-10

    King James Version (KJV)

    9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;

10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

    1 Peter 2:9-10

21st Century King James Version (KJ21)

9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people, that ye should show forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

10 In times past ye were not a people, but are now the people of God; who had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

9 The Jews were chosen among all people those who receive Christ are chosen as well to serve Him in a certain way according to His plan. The Jews had priests thru the line of Aaron but we as believer are made priest thru our faith in Christ. The Jews were set apart to serve the Lord as a nation, we as believers are part of the coming kingdom He will establish. We are to give Him praise because He deserves praise. We as believers should seek to continually praise Him. Our praise means nothing though if we do not follow Him. Jesus is the light of the world before we come to Him we are in darkness. After we come to Him we see the truth which is shown by Him the Light. When we receive the Light we see things in true perspective and see ourselves as the sinners we are.

10 Before we come to the Lord we are a people wandering around looking for our pleasures. After we come to Him, we are following Him. We have His mercy which is Him not giving us what we deserve. We all deserve hell but when we receive Jesus we are given mercy as well as grace. With this mercy we are spared from hell.

     Keep or eyes on Jesus.

    Devotion Mark 1:16 Study 1 Peter 2;6-8

    Mark 1:16

KJV(i)16 Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
KJ2000(i)16 Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
    my thoughts.
Andrew we learn from the gospel of John he followed John the baptised and shared the truth about the Chirst coming with His brother. Christ does not show favor as man, the first 4 disciples were just common fishermen but they became His first followers.

    1 Peter 2:6-8

    King James Version (KJV)

6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,

8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.

    1 Peter 2:6-8

21st Century King James Version (KJ21)

6 Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture: “Behold, I lay in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious; and he that believeth in Him shall not be confounded.”

7 Unto you therefore who believe, He is precious; but unto those who are disobedient, “The stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,”

8 and, “A stone of stumbling and a rock of offense,” even to those who stumble at the Word, being disobedient, unto which also they were appointed.

6 Scripture is often quoted in other scriptures it is something special about the bible, you can read one passage that was written a 2000 years ago and it refers back to a passage written 4000 years ago and then later refers to something that has not yet happened. Zion is a name for the temple or the Jewish nation. Here it refers to those who have faith in the Lord. We today have faith in the Lord and those of old had faith in the Lord and this is the building block of the family of God thru Christ Jesus, we can call Him Father.

7 We who believe have a relationship with the Lord and are made special because of this relationship. Those who don’t have this relationship remain disobedient and continue to follow after their flesh but we as believers follow after Him.

8 There are many that may cause others to stumble due to their disobedient to the Lord’s commands and will. We are not to the stumbling stones effect our growth as believers but grow in spite of those who are disobedient. We are to grow in faith and by this that stumbles may come to Him as well but, if this does not happen it should not affect our walk. We are to show the world Christ by the way we follow after Him and we should not live in a way that could cause one to stumble, even though we are sinners.

    keep our eyes on Jesus.

    Matt 19:23-30

    Matthew 19:23Matthew 19:30

23 aAnd Jesus said to His disciples, Truly I say to you, Only with difficulty will a brich man enter into the kingdom of the heavens.

24 And again I say to you, It is 1easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the akingdom of 2God.

25 And when the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and said, Who then can be 1saved?

26 And looking upon them, Jesus said to them, With men this is 1impossible, but with God all things are 1apossible.

27 Then Peter answered and said to Him, Behold, we have left all and afollowed You. What then will there be for us?

28 And Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you that you who have followed Me, in the 1arestoration, when the bSon of Man sits on the cthrone of His glory, you also shall dsit on twelve thrones, 2ejudging the twelve tribes of Israel.

29 And everyone who has left houses or abrothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for My name's sake shall 1receive 2a hundred times as much and shall 3inherit beternal life.

30 But many 1afirst will be last, and many last first.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

23 Rich men often put money before God. The blessings God gives them becomes their God and they are not willing to give it up.

24 For a camel to pass through an eye of a needle is to do something impossible. All things are made possible through God though. A rich man can come to Jesus by His power. No man can come to God on there own, it is thru Jesus. It is often thru struggles we come to Christ, rich men often do not face troubles and build themselves up in pride. Man has to be humble to accept Jesus as Savior, we need to come to the point that we see a need for the Savior and then accept Him as Lord and become His servants. Wealthy people often are not servants but have people under them serving them for a paycheck but we as believers are to serve the Lord because of our relationship worth Him which does have rewards itself.

25 Rich people were most respected as today they are looked at because they are successful. We do not need to win the world to have Christ often it is give up the world for Christ. Christ was offered the world’s treasures by Satan as a temptation but He knew it was His, the devil just had it in His power but it was Jesus’ the evil of the world was Satan’s. Jesus world will not be corrupt. Jesus world will be pure. We are not meant for treasures here on earth but for rewards in heaven.

26 All things are possible with God. It is when we are unable but do that God is really shown because of this many will be called by God to do what they most fill unable to do because Jesus is able to have them do it. We are to do things we are unable because when this happens we focus on Him and see He has the ability and this allows and helps us to remain humble and remain in the role of a servant for the one who leads, the Lord.

27 Peter was looking for a reward for doing what is right. Often doing right will not have rewards here on earth. We are not to seek to be rewarded by men but by God. Peter did leave everything as well as the disciples. Jesus’ point is most rich men are unable to make this dedication to Him. We are not to let anything come before our relationship with Jesus.

28 Jesus let Peter know our rewards are in heaven when we are judged for our righteousness. This does not mean we will not receive blessings here on earth but that we should not look for blessings here but for the ultimate blessing will be given from Him to us.

29 We are not to hold anything from God. Often times blessing are put before God. Family is served more than God. Family is not bad; it is a blessing from God but, should not become a god to us.

30 It is about being a servant, not being of high position but being of servitude.

    study Ex 9:1-7

    Exodus 9:1-7

    American Standard Version (ASV)

9 Then Jehovah said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me.

2 For if thou refuse to let them go, and wilt hold them still,

3 behold, the hand of Jehovah is upon thy cattle which are in the field, upon the horses, upon the asses, upon the camels, upon the herds, and upon the flocks: there shall be a very grievous murrain.

4 And Jehovah shall make a distinction between the cattle of Israel and the cattle of Egypt; and there shall nothing die of all that belongeth to the children of Israel.

5 And Jehovah appointed a set time, saying, To-morrow Jehovah shall do this thing in the land.

6 And Jehovah did that thing on the morrow; and all the cattle of Egypt died; but of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one.

7 And Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not so much as one of the cattle of the Israelites dead. But the heart of Pharaoh was stubborn, and he did not let the people go.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

1 Moses done this before every plague was sent but Pharaoh did not ever listen. Pharaoh most recently decided to let the people go but then changed his mind after the plague was taken away.

2 Another warning from God given by Moses, you think Moses would listen to God’s word and let His people go but we often reject the truth before we are filled with the truth.

3 People this God attacked the land but after this the plagues get worse and attack the animals and the people. God starts to lose his patience with Pharaoh. The Egyptian god of protection was taken out here by God and they found no protection.

4 This was to show that God could protect but nothing else could. God is where there is safety. Israel would not be affected by any of the later plagues. I think they were not affected by any of the plague though.

5 Pharaoh had a day to decide he is given less time than before as God loses His patience.

6 So at this point Egypt had the Nile turn to blood, frogs invade the land, flies, and lice. Now their cattle was dead but it was about to get even worst as the plagues continued.

7 Pharaoh’s heart was hardened again much like the times before soon God would harden Pharaoh’s heart. Pharaoh again does not let God’s people go.

    Matthew 19:16Matthew 19:22

16 aAnd behold, someone came to Him and said, Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may 1have beternal life?

17 And He said to him, Why do you ask Me concerning what is good? There is only 1One who is 2agood. But if you want to 3benter into life, 4ckeep the commandments.

    18 He said to Him, Which ones? And Jesus said, "You shall anot murder; you shall not commit adultery; you shall not steal; you shall not bear false witness;

19 aHonor your father and mother; and you shall blove your neighbor as yourself.''

20 The young man said to Him, All these things I have kept. What do I still lack?

21 Jesus said to him, If you want to be 1aperfect, go, bsell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have ctreasure in the heavens; and come, 2dfollow Me.

22 But the young man, hearing this word, went away 1sorrowing, for he had many possessions.

16 This person may have not just though doing one thing could get eternal life but may have been more looking for a vague answer like keep the law or doing good. People of the world believe that doing good can get people to heaven but this is not true because none are good without Christ’s blood covering their sins. This man must have listened to the Jesus for a while because he knew Jesus was teaching about receiving a life that does not end or eternal life, he also knew Jesus was teaching about life and follow God.

17 Jesus knew who He was and is but this man did not, he just saw Him as another teacher of the day because he did not accept the truth. God alone is good, Jesus is God though, and this is something this man did not know. No one can fully keep all God’s commandments we all fall short and all sinners. Sinners can not get to heaven if their sin goes unforgiven, which happens without them putting their sins on the cross.

18 The man wanted to know which commandments he needed to keep. If we fail in one point of the law we are condemned by the entire law.

19 Jesus listed sins of the flesh. We all fall to our flesh from time to time. Love your neighbor as your self something that can not be done perfectly all the time by anyone accept Christ. Jesus stepped outside the ten for that one of love. It is recognized as Jesus first giving the commandment to love yours neighbor but it was given with the laws to Moses.

20 No one had kept all these but Jesus. We are all sinners and deserve hell. This man wanted salvation based off his works. Our works are nothing while we are slaves to the flesh but, the work the Spirit uses us for after we come to Him matters which comes after salvation.

21 Jesus here decides to humble this man by getting to the root of his desires. Often times we put things in the improper place and put them or it above God. We all serve something whether it is self, family, or we accept Jesus and put Him first. We as believers are to think of the eternal value of what we do. We are to serve the Lord not anything else. A believer can have money but this money can not be above their relationship with God which for this man it was.

22 This man decided to reject Jesus and keep all this world had for Him. He was not willing to make the sacrifice to serve the Lord. Being a Christian is not easy but often a struggle. Christianity is often giving things up to better serve the Lord and show that we do not need what the world holds of value because Christ is all we need and He will take care of the rest. We come to the conclusion to die is gain and to live is to continue to be able to serve Christ here on earth.

We have to wait on the Lord's timing at the point we are to let Him lead the way. Often we gain the skills we need why we wait for what we are about to go thru.
