Adventures throgh faith
Yes faith is an adventure, a way of life requiring important decisions and interactive steps. Our faith , revealed to us by God, will come to us along with excitement and enthusiasm, drawing you into the adventure. However obstacles may arise which will test your faith and bring with them, fear and doubt. How you respond is of the utmost importance.
Let’s take a look at Exodus 14: 10-22. In Exodus 12 and 13, we see a picture of God’s providence. After the passover, the Egyptians not only begged the Israelites to leave, but gave them gold and silver to take also. I ask after that how could one question God’s ability to care for them?
!4:10-12 we see here an obstacle placed before them. The Egyptians were coming after them and they feared, because they were focused on them, not on God, just as we might focus on a circumstance instead of God. The Israelites turned their thoughts back to fond memories of Egypt and their former slavery. How about you? When confronted by obstacles to your faith, do your thoughts return to the slavery of sin, which Christ has released you from? Do you view the world with a fondness or desire rather than resting in the peace of Jesus Chris? It is important not to allow fear to cloud your judgement, not to turn back.
Some when confronted by challenge, will freeze, go nowhere. We see this in vss 13-14. To stand paralyzed by fear is wrong. There is a time for prayer and reflection, but there is also a time for action. Faith should draw you forward, not hold you silent in your belief. Faith does not allow you to stand still, frozen and apathetic. Faith will either grow you or you will be pulled back into the world. God calls you to step forward in faith. We see this in vs 15 Then the Lord said to Moses, "why are you crying out to me? Tell the sons of Israel to go forward." You also must go forward in faith, that is the adventure. Faith requires you to believe in his ability, to give him the glory, vs 18. To trust in his protection vss 19-20 and to know his power, vss 21-22. Faith stretches us beyond where we are. It is not faith if we walk only where we can see the full picture. Yes faith is an adventure and now I have a question for you. Where is your faith planted? Are you growing amongst weeds? Being choked out and turning back to the world? Have you taken root in rocky ground, unable to grow? Or are you planted in the fertile soil of Jesus Christ? Growing, sharing, stepping forward, displaying your faith to the world? God is calling you to a life of adventure, step forward.
