Ike in Indiana
Who would believe it? Actual hurricane force winds in Indiana. Not tornado -- we get those -- Hurricane! The difference, you ask -- well, for one thing, the damage is more widespread -- much more widespread. With a tornado, you call on outside help. But, this time, the usual outside help was busy with their own problems. Add to that the fact that some of our own electrical workers had been sent to Texas and you have a real shorage of help. That was Sunday. My power was back on Wed. night about nine. Some still don't have power. I was blessed. I have gas for cooking and for the water heater so I could take hot baths and cook hot meals. But we here in southern Indiana and Kentucky don't know how blessed we are. Our problems are nothing compared to Texas. I have lots of limbs down and one tree uprooted. It didn't hit anything vital. I lost some shingles and siding and guttering. That's replaceable. And with all the wind, there was no rain, so time to get repairs. Blessings. Blessings.

Starry Starry Night
Have you every been just almost finished with a big project and missed the deadline? OK - deadline for the quilt project was 2:00 pm Tues. I arrived at this info. because the rules sheet said it was due the last 2 weeks of Sept. and the group's meeting time was 9 to 2 every Tuesday. Monday I knew I wasn't going to make it without an "all-nighter" and so I kept working -- and working -- and working. All night. By 7:30 am Tues. I HAD to have sleep. Every time I stood up, I became dizzy from the lack thereof. I went to bed -- for about 1 1/2 hours but couldn't sleep. I still had to finish the embroidery that constitued the quilting around the border, plus the binding. So I got up again, ate breakfast and went back to work. I was praying for a miracle. At 1:45 pm I knew it was impossible. I had two sides of binding yet to do, and had to allow time to drive to the church to take the quilt. No way.
And the phone rang. Now, I wasn't answering the phone. Every SECOND counted. So I stitched and listened to the message as the answering machine took the call. It was my sister - the one I had talked into the project last year. She said she had just taken her quilt in and they told her to tell me to Please keep working and bring it in anyway. They would take the projects up until the date of the show - which isn't until the end of the month!
I had been up all night. I was frantic with not being able to finish on time (I am compulsive about deadlines - hate them and avoid them - but meet them if AT ALL doable and this was my own fault for not starting earlier -- Can we say guilt trip?) What did I do?
I folded the quilt, and cried for about half an hour, then went to bed. God had sent me a reprieve.
The quilt is now done and I will turn it in Tuesday, by the grace of God who forgives procrastination.
