How to Amount to Nothing
Most of us have a desire to live a life that counts. We want to amount to something. We want others to remember us, and we want to leave some worthwhile legacy. I can’t ever remember hearing anyone say that he had rather not amount to anything, even though if you observed his actions, you might think that was his goal. Proof of this desire to succeed is found in the number of self help books in the bookstores. One of these I highly recommend. It’s the Bible. In John chapter 15 verse 4, Jesus tells us how to have a life that truly counts , but He also tells us how to amount to nothing. John 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; so neither can ye, except ye abide in me.

To Busy
There can be many reasons and causes for our busy lives. But, no matter the season, no matter the busy schedule we have, God demands our worship. The sisters, Mary and Martha are a good example of this. Its easy for me to relate to Martha… busy with serving… busy with something good, but missing what was most important. Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are) anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:38-42)

Heaven
A visiting pastor spoke at the Winona Lake Brethren Church. He told the congregation that as a child he used to have a terrible time with car sickness. He would travel for 20 miles and throw up. He soon developed an inferiority complex from his childhood because his parents would apologize for him whenever they ride with someone else. It so happened that his grandma lived 100 miles form home, and the trips to grandma’s were always terrible. But once arrived, he would take off his shoes and roam around the beautiful country. Grandma would bake the most delicious cake and always say “yes.” For two to three weeks he would thoroughly enjoy his stay at grandma’s until it was time to return. And while at grandma’s the preacher concluded, he had forgotten all about the car sick trip going there. Revelations 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

The Writeing
Written anonymously on the walls of a medieval castle were the following words: You call me Master and Obey me not. You call me Light and See me not. You call me Way and Walk me not. You call me Life and Desire me not. You call me Wise and Follow me not. You call me Fair and LOve me not. You call me Rich and Ask me not. You call me Eternal and Seek me not. You call me Gracious and Trust me not. If I condemn you, Blame me not. [Unknown]

God Can’t Lie
We have read about or seen it in a courtroom or on film. Some one places his or her hand on a Bible and swears to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. This practice symbolizes mankind’s effort to find the truth of a matter in a court of law. We often find the truth elusive, but God has no such problem. The Bible reveals that for God it is impossible to lie. Gods truthfulness is guaranteed by two unchangeable realities: who He is and what He has said. The word of God overflows with the promises of God. We should flee to Him for refuge and lay hope of the hope set before us. This hope abides in Jesus Christ the Son of God. If God said it that settles it for you and me.-Hebrews 6:18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us.

Songs In The Night
Beaten and imprisoned on false charges, Paul and Silas refused to give in to despair. They saw their situation as simply another opportunity to praise the Lord. Whatever form of “Jailhouse Rock” they sang, it was certainly music to the ears of the other prisoners, who were used to hearing groaning and cursing rather than singing and praising. And as Paul and Silas sang, the foundation of their dark bondage was shaken. God responded to their doxology duet by delivering them from their peril and saving the jail keeper and his family at the same time. Praise, a demonstration of faith, makes us aware of the powerful presence of the living God. Praise also serves as a powerful witness to an unbelieving world. And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. Acts 16:25
