Devotions Deut 1:19 Study Matt 19;13-15

    Devotions

    Deut 1:19

ISV(i)19 "Then we set out from Horeb and walked through that vast and dreadful desert, where you observed the road to the Amorite hill country. Just as the LORD our God ordained for us, we finally arrived at Kadesh Barnea.

    My thoughts.

Sometimes we have to go thru the desert to be thankful for our blessings.

    Matthew 19:13—Matthew 19:15
13 aThen little children were brought to Him that He might lay His hands on them and pray, but the disciples brebuked them.

14 But Jesus said, Allow the little children and do not prevent them from coming to Me, for aof 1such is the kingdom of the heavens.

15 And after He laid His hands on them, He went on from there.

13 Children were viewed as little value until the boys reached a certain age of maturity. The parents knew that Jesus praying for these kids could allow them to be better off than they were. Without Jesus blessing us we truly have nothing. The disciples may not have felt Jesus had time to deal with children and may have viewed that Jesus should focus more on healing the adults and respected people of the community.

14 Jesus did not want the children away. Jesus did what was asked for the children this lives were changed for the better. When we meet Jesus it changes everything. Some of these children may have remembered this moment as they were being killed for there faith in their Lord that they first met while they were just a child.  We as followers of Christ are similar to children in that they look to their parents for everything as believers we are to look at Jesus for all our leadership and blessings. Children are for up to a certain age viewed as innocent and we as believers are made innocent thru Christ.

15 So Jesus did what was not popular and took time out to deal with the children the outcasts and the ones viewed as helpless but without Christ everyone is truly helpless. We as believers need Jesus and without Him there is no true hope.

Devotion Deut 1:18 study Matt 19:1-12

    Deuteronomy 1:18

KJV(i)18 And I commanded you at that time all the things which ye should do.

ISV(i)18 I charged you at that time that you must do all of these things.'"

    My thoughts.

We should follow God's word which are His commands.

    Matthew 19:1—Matthew 19:12
1 And when Jesus finished these words, He departed from Galilee and came into the borders of Judea abeyond the Jordan.

2 And great crowds followed Him, and He healed them there.

3 aAnd some Pharisees came to Him, 1btesting Him and saying, Is it lawful for a man to 2divorce his wife for any cause?

4 And He answered and said, Have you anot read that 1He who bcreated them from the beginning made them male and female,

5 And said, "For this cause shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall be ajoined to his wife; and the two shall be one flesh''?

6 So then they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has yoked together, let man not aseparate.

7 They said to Him, Why then did Moses 1command us to give her a acertificate of divorce and divorce her?

8 He said to them, Moses, because of your ahardness of heart, allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the 1beginning it has not been so.

9 But I say to you that whoever divorces his wife, except for 1fornication, and marries another, commits aadultery; 2and he who marries her who has been divorced commits adultery.

10 His disciples said to Him, If the case of the man with his wife is 1like this, it is not profitable to marry.

11 And He said to them, 1Not all men can 2accept this word, but only those to whom it has been agiven.

12 For there are eunuchs who were born so from their mother's womb, and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs 1who made themselves eunuchs abecause of the 2kingdom of the heavens. He who can accept it, let him accept it.

1 This is Judea, the land many Pharisees and Sadducees lived in this region. The temple was in this region and there being the priests.

2 This was a common thing people would follow Jesus during the good times such as Him healing but as soon as the trouble came they left Him alone with His true disciples.

3 The wanted to trick Him because, according the scripture God hates divorce but God allow them to divorce because they were going to do this any way.

4 God created Eve to join her to Adam and this was the point marriage began.

5 Jesus here quotes from Genesis chapter 2. God spoke these words after joining Adam and Eve together. There should be no division in marriage. If a man and woman treat their spouse as their selves, as if there is one, then divorce will not happen as much.

6 Jesus here is saying that man should not do away with something God issues.

7 This is a very good question but, they were not interested in the answer but His answer because they were trying to trick Him.

8 Because of the people Moses was allowed to give divorce. God does not want divorce to happen to many times marriage is rushed because divorce is an option but, divorce should be a last resort not a first option.

9 Divorce was commonly allowed also for desertion but Jesus hears says divorce should only happen because of unfaithfulness. Divorce is done far too many times today.

10 The disciples disliked this teaching because they did not want to be faithful just tone woman they were looking to be with many women instead of one woman. This idea is unbiblical, sex is for marriage only. Sex outside marriage is sin. The idea of being with only one woman scares some people but when you meet the woman you are to spend your life with it is not scary anymore but something that will bring joy.

11 There are certain men and women set apart to serve the Lord and not be married but only devoted to Him.

12 There are some set apart to serve the Lord not meant for marriage but, many will marry and serve the Lord as a family.

Devotion Deut 1:16 study Matt 18:21-35

    Devotion

    Deut 1:6

ISV(i)16 "I charged your judges at that time, 'When you hold a hearing between brothers, judge fairly between a man and his brother or between foreigners.

    My thoughts.

Judges should be fair and not partial. We as brothers and sisters in Christ should not jump to conclusions.

    Study

    Matthew 18:21Matthew 18:34

21 Then Peter came and said to Him, Lord, how often shall my brother asin against me and I bforgive him? Up to cseven times?

22 Jesus said to him, I do not say to you, Up to seven times, but, Up to seventy times seven.

23 For this reason the kingdom of the heavens has become like a 1king who desired to 2asettle accounts with his slaves.

24 And when he began to settle them, one who owed him 1ten thousand talents was brought to him.

25 But since he did not have the means to arepay, the master commanded him to be bsold, as well as his wife and children and all that he had, and repayment to be made.

26 Then the slave fell down and worshipped him, saying, Be patient with me and I will repay you all.

27 And the master of that slave was moved with compassion and released him and 1forgave him the loan.

28 But that slave went out and found one of his fellow slaves who owed him a 1hundred denarii, and he took hold of him and began to choke him, saying, Repay me what you owe.

29 Then his fellow slave fell down and begged him, saying, Be patient with me and I will repay you.

30 But he would not; instead, he went away and threw him into prison until he would repay what was owed.

31 Then his fellow slaves, seeing what had taken place, were greatly 1grieved and came and explained fully to their master all that had taken place.

32 Then his master called him to him and said to him, aEvil slave, all that debt I forgave you, because you begged me.

33 Should you not also have had amercy on your fellow slave even bas I had mercy on you?

34 And his master became angry and 1delivered him to the torturers until he would arepay all that was owed.
