Peter Link, composer, lyricist, record producer, orchestrator, is also the creative director of Watchfire Music. With a long and successful career in Pop music, the Broadway theater, ballet, television and films behind him, he is now dedicating the great majority of his time and creativity to the development of the Inspirational genre of music production.
With that in mind, he has recently created new CDs for Julia Wade, Story for the Ages and most recently her new Spanish CD Alabado sea Dios, Jenny Burton, I Think On These Things, and in the last three years produced and composed for ten different Inspirational CDs including Mindy Jostyn’s last CD, Coming Home. He also directed Joy Ride, an Inspirational concert of Watchfire Music artists in June of 2006 in New York City.
In the theater Peter is best known for his work as a composer. He has won the NY Drama Desk Award for his work in his musical Salvation, out of which came his first Gold Record, If You Let Me Make Love to You, Then Why Can’t I Touch You? which was a #1 single on the Billboard charts and sold over two million records.
He is a two-time Tony Award Nominee both for his musical score of Joseph Papp’s Much Ado About Nothing, which was presented at the Delacorte Theatre in Central Park, on Broadway and also as a CBS Television Special, and for his score for Neil Simon’s The Good Doctor.
His musical concert, The River swept the off-Broadway TOR Awards as not only Best Musical, but also won for Mr. Link Best Director and Best Composer/Lyricist. Mr. Link also served as Composer-in-Residence at the New York Shakespeare Festival for several years where he wrote the scores for over 40 productions.
He has recently finished producing the studio cast recording of his western musical, Sundown, which has won rave reviews and been named one of the Top Ten Best Theatrical Albums of 2004 - Jonathan Frank, Talking Broadway.
He has been most instrumental in directing the career of Jenny Burton and composing, producing and directing The Jenny Burton Experience. This Pop / Inspirational / R&B act broke all box office records playing to packed houses in their seven-year run in New York City. The group swept all the major club awards for Best Vocal Group including the Backstage Bistro Award, The Critics’ Choice Award and The MAC Award.
He produced an album for opera star Frederica Von Stade, wrote and produced three songs for Harry Belafonte’s movie Beat Street and he extended his musical influence to the ballet world, orchestrating, arranging and composing from Stephen Foster themes for the Joffrey Ballet Company’s bicentennial ballet Drums, Dreams and Banjos.
Mr. Link also built and owned Westrax Recording Studios, a dynamic recording studio in New York City. He presently owns Westrax Publishing, and is producing his own music at Link Recording Studios in New York.
Mr. Link began his career in New York studying acting at The Neighborhood Playhouse with Sanford Meisner in NYC. Upon graduation he immediately won a long-running major role on CBS’s As the World Turns.
He also played the lead in Hair on Broadway and the lead in his own Salvation Off-Broadway in NYC. He also played a feature role in the film The Out-of-Towners with Jack Lemmon.
Though his career is varied, he considers himself first and foremost a composer/lyricist and says, “I could spend the rest of my life locked in my recording studio and never come out again … and be happy.”
His other great happiness in life is derived from his great love for his wife, Watchfire Music artist, Julia Wade.
