    1 John 3:16 (NIV)

16This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.

I think that says sacrificial atonement, a moral imperative [sp] by example, and love driven unity. And the individual must exist for their personal sacrifice to have meaning. They must have a choice to lay down their life...

    Good to see you again,

    Mel

I dont know what evangelicals that you are refering to... but let me say for the record that this evangelical belives whole heartedly in the atonement and blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross to pay the penalty for my sins. Jesus died in my place so that I could live for Him and that is exactly what I try to do and will do until He calls me hm to be with Him.

You are exactly right... if one is not going to accept the atoning sacrifice at Calvary then he might as well hang it up because that person will spend an eternity in hell... There is no remission of sins apart from the atoning sacrifice at Calvary!!!

Everyone who says he is a Christian is not necessarily a genuine child of God. 1Jn. 2:18,19; 4:1-6 The same goes for "Christian" magazines such as the one you referred to. I don't waste my time reading the heretical garbage in that particular publication.

There exists, as you seem to be aware, a great apostasy (falling away) from the true faith in this hour. 2Thess. 2:3 The sad, shocking and frightening thing about it is that many who had formerly appeared to be sound in the faith are manifesting the true character of their erroneous beliefs and practices. Meanwhile, the church slumbers in her stupor of complacency and compromise. Men of God, to our knees! and to the battle!

Actually, Mark Dever was defending the traditional views and exposing the heretical ones. My apologies if that did not come across in my column.
