Sometimes I think that when we look at the overview of the whole passage it brings out individual verses in a different light! God here is bringing a whole nation to faith in him, during the wilderness years, the wheat was separated from the chaff?
It is difficult to understand when in our enlightened times we have access to such Scholarship. In Christ we are each one of us responsible for our individual salvation so the generation thing can be broken.
If a man lies with a woman who has a disease, subsequently has his child, that can affect generations to come? see also v16

C'Anne... I actually smnile when I see that you haev updated your blog... You have a wonderful spirit about you and a depth that is very very encouraging. You nailed this conccept very well... We ought also to look at this not from the childs perspective but from the partents perspctive to think.. I need to be careful about the life that I live because the foundation that I lay can effect my childrens lives and even enerations to follow after me....

If the sins of the fathers carry on (in the way you explained), do the good works of the fathers carry on too?
Not that I'm trying to get any extra credit for you turning out so great. I'm thinking of my father, who was such are great church servant. Do I have such a blessed life because of him?

Jon... I think we are all products of our environment both good and bad and so hte influence that your father had on you has shaped you and rubbed off on C'Anne as well and hopefully will continue! We are encouraged to be our best because we never know whose life we will have an influence on!
