I have not read Ayn Rand, but I have read Paulo Coelho's "The Alchymist". It is terrible. Coelho is one of the most popular authors in the world today, and what he stands up for is egoism, esoterism and pride.
Loving the poor is not the commandment of God. But a true servant of God is very seldom rich. The commandment, though, is to love your neighbour as yourself. In other languages, as in the Norwegian, the concept is not "neighbour" but something else. The English term "neighbour" is nice because we so easily grasp we are in union with others by fall or by call. The question might be: Who are we united to by fall or by call? Are we not all united as men in relation to God?
But the real problem is the god people of today worship, I totally agree.
MASTER GOD
What used to be ahead of us
took place behind, as God, and thus
efficiency became our god
and knowledge and control the rod.
And mastering became the love,
became Christ Jesus, to be of –
a god the fathers never knew.
But those who don't obey are few.
