Michael, I find your posts fasinating. You have so many positions that sound just like people in our church that I stuggle with, BUT you obviously include a passion for God that validates those positions. I have often thought that the one leader of this bunch "doesn't have a spititual bone in his body."
He recently complained that our pastor wore sandals. I was going to point that out as an example of how extreme he was, but I think you might agree with him , and make it worth consideration.
I really look forward to your every post.

I think you are right in that the scripture Jared was refering to is misused. However, if it is not a matter of doctine, we do have lattitude in many things. I would only stand with you on the position of his hat because you had the authority to request it of him, and I see not one whit of support for him to refuse that. If you think it is immodest or whatever, that is sufficient. He should subrogate his freedom in the matter to make peace and not become a stubbling block.

Romans 14, especially verses 15-16 & 21 is what he needs to understand. We all would do well to heed what Paul is talking about here.

21It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother to fall.

This passage is more than just about days of the week or food or wine, although I still see arguements on this items go to silly extremes. It covers what you wear. It covers the way you wave 'hello'. You do understand that in some cultures, waving as we americans do to say hello could be considered the equivalent of 'giving someone the bird', a very vulgar gesture.

Do I judge these actions? None of them! I cannot even judge the heart, but God surely will!

    Truly,

    Mel

You appear to be a very stuanch and strick by the book kind of guy - and there is nothing wrong with that. I must however admit that as Jarred, I would obey your request purely because I would be representing a company and need to portray a good image, but what would you then do if at home time, I turned the cap back to suit my style and personality!

I understand your point of veiw, but with our younger generations of today, are we not pushing them away with our standpoints instead of bringing them to God?

I maintain that if a person is truely touched by God, they will automatically change by choice over time.

In saying that, I also believe that we as parents need to instil respect into our children.

Just the thoughts in my head ( from a slightly younger perspective )

    God Bless

Could this be worth referring to? :

"Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth." (II Timothy 2:15)
